i never gave much thought to an x metal penny, but after i got across this one i decided to try em on, and the fit was unlike any other x metal i own ! the spring hinge works amazingly well on these, and altough it is a "smaller" model, i can pull them off wearing them. the copper color is what it supposed to be, being a penny(like the coin), and the VR28 lens is very relaxing to the eye. this one is high up on the design ladder too, with nice little details such as the fins on the arms. all in all a true oakley innovative piece of x metal eyewear

I have had these glasses since 2001 and have never gotten tired of them. I was lucky enough to get dark lenses. The frame is very durable, comfortable and fits well on a smaller face. They are definetly smaller than the Juliet. I would not recommend it for a larger head. The Juliet would be the larger head choice. The titanium colour lens compliments the frame well. The spring hinge is very practical and required. Scratches on the lenses are very obvious. However, replacement lenses are the variety of colours avaliable make this oakley a versitle and every lasting addition to anyone's collection. If it fits your face you will not be disappointed.

Perhaps one of the most exotic, yet unknown pairs of Oakleys in existence, this pair of X-Metals commands respect. Forged from a proprietary titanium alloy, the frames are virtually indestructible. Not to be outdone by its other X-Metal counterparts, the Penny boasts spring hinges for a secure, yet comfortable fit. Although the lens coverage is a bit limited, the premise behind this was to provide an X-Metal for smaller faces. Overall, an excellent pair of shades.
This is my crown jewel and one of the most beautiful pieces ever created. A true Oakley collector's dream.

I bought these for my brother last Christmas and have continued to borrow them ever since. They are titanium like the rest of the X-Metal, but had a copper coating much like their currency counterpart. Unlike the rest of the X-Metals, however, this pair has a spring hinge, although not as successfully implemented as the Mag Switches and A Wire/Square Wire Spring Hinge models. The frame is small and compact with sharp edges at the various joints. The lenses are good for most lighting conditions from daylight to evening, not working well in the dark, but okay indoors. They are designed for smaller faces, and may look funny if you have a medium to large head, but are still passable.
Frame: X-Metal
Lens: Ruby Iridium
These are by far the smallest of the X-Metals, but the lens design covers the eye effectively. Plus they look quite sharp on anyone who tries them on. People often offer to purchase my Pennys, even sometimes for a small fortune, but I won't let these go! I see why they used them in X-Men as to me, they have that superhero look and feel. Highly Recommended.

Penny was a frame that I thought I would not have. Not that I didn't want one, but that I wouldn't be able to find one. With some help from the good folks on the forum, just about anything is possible.
Penny is the smallest full frame in the X-Metal family, but certainly not lacking in any aspects. It is a solid built X-Metal like all the other frames. The orbitals are very small, but these do actually fit a variety of faces including mine, and I have a medium to large size noggin. The coverage is not bad at all for such a small frame.
The biggest problem with this frame is the spring hinges. The hinges have been know to be a bit of a pain to work on, and these also contribute to the "loose" feeling that the Penny is notorius for. They feel like they would easily fall off of your face if you are looking down. Other X-Metals usually feel pretty tight, but these feel just the opposite. The spring hinges make them a little more comfortable, but you trade that secure feeling for this comfort.
Overall, this is a killer design and a must have for any collection. A very solid feeling X-Metal.

This was my first penny in my collection. I never thought that I would like this model because I have a med to big head. Hey but it works nonetheless. You should have this model in your collection regardless of the size of your head.

I have 3 of these in my collection. One of my favorite xmetals. This is my workhorse. I get lots of compliments on these bad boys. Definitely a keeper for me. I love the spring hinges. It wraps around my face without any discomfort. The only thing that I hate about the penny is the limited eye coverage and it keeps on slipping on my nose ( Im Asian BTW ). I love the design and it looks very aggressive than Juliets.

I've always thought that the Penny was an extremely intriguing pair of glasses, but since they've been discontinued for a while now I never expected to find them at my local O Store. So when I set out on my weekly pilgrimage expecting to buy maybe a pair of Whiskers or New Square Wires at my beloved O Store, I couldn't believe it when the salesperson told me that he had a pair of these Pennys for sale. Once I got over my surprise and tried them on, I didn't take them off until later that day when I got home. I love them...and they were worth every cent of the seemingly good deal I got on them. Initially though, I was a bit uncertain of spending all that money since I had only planned on spending around $150 for the wires that I had my heart set on, but after calling a fellow Review member and telling him about my discovery, he gave me some great advice (thanks again, Bill) and I decided that I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to add these stunning beauties to my collection. Although somewhat similar to the Juliets I own in the same colorway, they are still amazing in their own unique way. I really like the fact that they have spring hinges as well as the smaller and different shape of the lenses. Like I said, I am totally smitten by these glasses and at this point I have nothing even remotely negative to say about them - 5 skulls without a doubt.

2 years after getting my mag switches, i still longed to own a pair of these, and finally, i got a hold of a pair.
2 dissapointments: the lenses are not as dark as they used to be, as it is a later generation, and there is no serial #!
those things aside- WOW these look amazing. ive never seen a more amazing pair of sunglasses. they fit well, and seem very strong yet flexible. they are considerably heavier than the mag switches, but seem much stronger. the ruby lenses are, for me, much better to look through than the fire iridium lense, as it gives enerything a much more natural tint.the flex couplers also work great, though there seems to be a little more flexing when compared to a mag switch. the spring hinges seem just as good as the ones on juliets, or any other pring hinge frames, for that matter.

The best looking X-metal frame colour which sadly seems to be different from the juliet version. I have always wanted this combo but have held back as annoyingly pennys look dumb on my big head, they are comfortable because of the spring hinges but the lenses are too small anyway so i give up trying to wear them.
a classic combo and definately a must have for any collection.

Great shades, fell in love with them but not right away, at first I thought they were a little small. Now I think they are radical, great fit too, very comfortable. VR28 Black is probably one of my top 2 favorite lens colors for everyday use as well so that's really nice.

the only reason I bought this is cuz its on the xmen movie but it looks tight on me at the same time plus its a must have cuz its an X metal.it dont give me any pain at all on my temples. The shape alone works for me already

I really like the x-metal pennys. The ruby iridium lens was an added bonus to this frame. I was all too excited about the combo but it was the only way to pick up the x-metal penny.

A regular penny is made out of copper, therefor an Oakley Penny should be made out of copper as well! It's a very bold color to wear, but that's why it's so special! I get a lot of good reactions when wearing these babies.

they fit great very confortable. i cant wait till i get my ruby and my ice iridium pairs

The very first pair that Yukio bought. This metal pair is surprisingly light for its composition. The wrap is perfect for smaller faces/heads and does not block peripheral vision much, if at all. The slightly aggressive look also makes them a somewhat intimidating pair.
Frame: Polished
Lens: Black Iridium
These are a super cool x-metal,which give the best fit for smaller faces.
Very comfortable, with superb lenses, and simply bombproof construction, make this style a future classic.
Frame: X-Metal Penny

These lens and frame combo is out of this world!I only wished that they would have kept the serial #'s on the X-Metals!
Penny ia a beatiful eyewear, but if you haven't a small cranium, it will probably look strange.
Just trying one to know...
Frame: Polished / Titanium
Lens: Black Iridium / Ice Iridium
A very underrated X-metal. Although they have lost some appeal due to the spring-hinges (I am still to be convinced - they are not as secure as I would like when wearing them over the head), the design is pure beauty - such aggressive looks, but yet still slightly understated - a pair that could be worn on almost any occasion. Looks better on smaller faces, so worth trying before buying.

Really awesome pair. These do slide down a bit but not bad. The ice lens gives this frame a real good option.
Frame: Ti

After I got the Coppers I got obsessed with the other colors. Now I'm on my way to all the Penny's. The only drawback is that if you are filipino and have a flat face these shades slide down a bit. Other than that, they cool.

I hated these at first. I thought they were way too small for my head. Then I put them on and was stoked. Had to get them.

Well great design and looks but did not fit my face at all. Too small. Frame was pretty balanced and well I just didn't like polished look at all. This would be good for someone with a small head or slender face.
Frame: X metal

Very stylised frame, Spring hinge keeps them in place, Had to get ruby lens for the collection, but would prefer the lens options available for juliet offered in the penny. would also have liked to see a carbon frame, that said,
however you are dressed and or hungover these look a million bucks.
Frame: copper

the copper frame just looks awsome, very comfortable, i have a small to medium size head and they fit well, wasnt to thrilled with the vr28 lens but the more i wear them the more i like the tint, overall great sunglasses
Frame: Titanium

Best looking sunglasses Oakley makes! At least for my face. They may actually be a touch to small, but then the Juliets may be a touch to big. However; I would prefer them over the Juliets if only they had a few more color combinations and/or a few pairs with polarized lenses. Hard to beat such a great style though.
Frame: Polished
Lens: Black Iridium
I started to like penny even more when I started using them more often.Spring hinge may not suit everybody depending on the size and shape of one's head. The design of the spring gives a good grip on my head. However I found out that I cannot push this up my head like I sometimes do with my juliet or half jacket. It wont stay there. Polished frame combined with black is a cool combination. Elegant yet easily catches attention.
Frame: Titanium
Lens: Ice Iridium
This is a very good alternative to Juliet if it will fit your face. I am surprised how good this fit & feel even with the sping hinge and even after being used to the fit of juliet. However, I like the feel of the spring hinge in the mag four, they hug better. The design is sleek and more aggressive and I specially love the ice. If only oakley will come out with a two toned color combination like the TiO2.
Frame: X-Metal
Lens: Ruby
All I can say is, these deserve every bit of praise they are accorded. Without a doubt one of the most desirable pairs of sunglasses Oakley has ever produced. The only negative I can think of(and it's probably just me) is the lenses.. though amazing to look at, they are not the best to look through. Still 5 stars for sure.
Frame: X-Metal
Lens: Ruby
Sickest pair of shades bought so far! I get so many stares when wearing these bad boys. Colour of the lense is incredible when the sun shines off them. These glasses go well with small faces.
Frame: Polished

Had to make this custom pair - the polished/ruby combo ROCKS! My first Penny's - won't be my last - love these frames!
Frame: Copper
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium
Another "it's discontinued now so get it while you can" purchase. Love the Penny frame, love the VR28 Black lenses. The Copper finish took me awhile to get use to, but I do like it. It's just so much brighter than other X-Metal finishes like Titanium, X-Metal, and Carbon.
Unfortunately, the original pair I got from eBay was advertised as new but had several worn spots on the frame where the finish had rubbed/chipped off. I hope this is not an indication of poor finish durability. I will definitely be a bit more careful with these when I get my warranty replacement back from HQ.
Frame: Copper
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium
The copper frame just compliments the Penny in style and name. It looks great and is one of the more unique finishes I've seen. The VR28 Black lens is fastly becoming one of my favorites and it looks great in combination with the copper frame. They are made for smaller faces so I don't quite pull them off very well. But you can't go wrong with these based alone on the frame/lens combination and quality of design.
Frame: Polished
Lens: Black
Really cool design. It's like Juliet jr. I thought these were too small for my big head. Still, I like the design.
Frame: Titanium
Lens: Ice Iridium
Tried these on just for the heck of it and despite the fact that Pennys are X-Metals for those with smaller heads, they fit surprisingly well, thanks to the spring hinges. They look quite nice too, with a sleeker lens that tapers towards the temples more than the Juliets. Unfortunately, the only (and deciding negative) is that they look really small on my large head. Still, it's nice to have the option for those lucky enough to pull off both Juliets and Pennys.
Frame: Titanium
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium
The only reason these don’t get the full 5 stars is the spring-hinges, which are not as firm as I’d like compared with those on some wire frames for example. The design, construction and build quality is exceptional and VR28 Black Iridium is by far my favorite lens option, at least until I get a pair with Ruby lenses. The Penny’s chiseled contours and sharp styling are not for everyone and I consider myself lucky to have the cranial geometry to pull em off. The Unobtanium nosebombs and earsocks do a fair job of ensuring a relatively secure fit, though I find I often wear mine over a cap since the SH’s don’t grip as firmly as I’d like without one on. The VR28 BI’s are outstanding, great to look at and look through with a warm reddish brown tint and high contrast which means they work well in all conditions from bright to overcast.
Frame: Polished
Lens: Black Iridium
Hmm I'm not really the biggest fan of these... well there isn't anything really wrong with them, they just dont fit/look good on me.. I mean they do look really cool, but I dont like the looser feel of spring hinges as opposed to a nice tight pair of juliets.
Maybe I'll change my mind if/when I get my hands on a pair of rubies.... meh
Frame: X-Metal
Lens: Ruby
These are the smallest X-Metals to date, and IMO the coolest and sleekest looking of all other styles. Anything I could say about the X-Metal/Ruby combo has already been said plenty of times before me, so I will just say that these are FREIKEN SWEET!
Frame: X Metal / Carbon
Lens: Ruby / +Red Iridium
I love the Penny. In fact, I think they suit me better than the Juliets, and the spring hinges feel that they fit a lot better than temple shocks, as temple shocks on other X Metals tend to feel uneven in some cases.
The lenses are pretty cat-eyed and small, so they would have to sit close to your face to offer maximum coverage. In my case, I had to have them so far up my face that my eyelids practially brushed the lenses (don't worry too much though; I'm Asian and have no nose). You definitely need a bridge to sport one of these guys.
The Penny would -suit- smaller faces, but would certainly -fit- most people. It may be small, but it is as wide as the Juliet.
The Penny has a grand total of four lens options which are mostly for bright-light environments; Ruby, VR28 Black, Black and Ice Iridiums. The Juliet has these options and more, which may be why it has a more universal appeal than the Penny. I lucked out and managed to nab a Carbon/+Red Iridium Penny, but it's functionally similar to the already available lens options.
If you've got a small face, then try out the Penny. If you like them, then it should go without saying that you should get them... it is definitely as worth as much as it's bigger brothers. A loss of one skull is due to the fact that the O does not make Asian Fit nosebombs for the Penny, which I am terribly bitter about...

I have two pairs of these at the moment, and I wish to complete the set in the months and years to come. They are like the Juliet's little brother. Spring hinges aren't popular with everyone, but they give them a nice fix making them easier to wear than the other X-Metals imo. My only criticism is the reduced field of vision due in large part to the compact design. I find the frame affects my peripheral vision since it surrounds my eye so closely. I am very impressed with the craftmanship of the Penny though. Some very intricated design elements. I lack the sufficient vocab to expalin fully what I mean, but I really like the detail on the arms. They remind me of the wings on a '59 Caddy or something. The little flares on the bottom of the orbitals add a nice touch too. A definite asset to any collection.
Frame: X-metal

this pair of Oakley's are stunning. The x metal ruby combo is probably the best looking x metal combo that is available to the public out there. I don't match the Pennys much but I had to have me a pair of these. They are awesome. My Juliets match me alot better but if you are an Oakley fan, then you must have one of these.
Frame: Polished

Badass pair of shades. My Penny is my second pair of Oakleys and I must admit they did feel a little weird wearing the first few days because this model is designed for smaller faces, and I've grown used to how the Juliets hug my face. They feel just normal now and I love the spring hinge design which is unique in X-Metals.
The polished frame really stands out because it is really shiny and when you are outdoors under the sun, they look even cooler.
Hoping to get my hands on a X-Metal/Ruby combo one of these days.

VERY NICE. I must admit, when i first put them on i was expecting for these to be too samll for my face. Hoever they really werent. The pennys do not cover much of my eyebrows but i still love them. they fit much better than the juliets and lighter as well.

Hi, I'm from Austria! I find one of those rare and exclusive Penny's in a store in vienna. I think they are one of the greatest sunglasses ever made! But don't buy a penny if you have a big face! Oakley rules!

Simply a awesome set of X-metal glasses. A great fit for anyone who find the Juliets too large for them. The sculpted frames are sweet, and the frame/lens color combinations are some of the best out of any styles.

Even smaller than the juliet so I knew theyd look really dumb on me but I just love the copper frame colour. I wish they would recreate it in another Oakley.

My god! I can't believe i bought these two in just two weeks time, but so far no regrets. I love the x-metal/ruby combi, in fact i love them so much i don't want to wear them outside in fear of ruining the glasses. hehehe These babies are absolutely the best pair of glasses, especially for people with a "smaller face," like me. I spent 1 whole week scouring the city for a brand new pair of x-metal/ruby combi. It was a hard, greusome, and not to mention expensive task ($467.85 converted) but it was all so worth it!!! Any of you planning on getting a pair should buy them now! You wont regret it. Now, i'm eyeing myself on a pair of c-wires, unleaded, and smoke. I can't believe i'm hooked with the "O addiction."

Look just as cool as the Juliet. The spring hinge are great, make them fit any size head. I am fortunate to have the right face for both the Penny and the Juliet, 2 of the best sunglasses ever created imo. I had the Titanium/Ice, then swap the Ice lens for the Ruby that I specially order from Oakely. So now I have the uniqe Titanium/Ruby combo.

Ok, ever since the Penny's came out, I have always had small urge to try a pair on for myself. Well I finally had a chance to do so a few days ago, when my friends got me a pair for my b-day. Unforunately, after trying them on, I immediately discovered they were way too small for my face :(. Fortunately, since it was essentially new, I could take it back to Comor and get a return/exchange (which I did and got a pair of SI assault boots and the Low Pro Metal Icon Hat). Though I only spent a short time with these, I have to say that the design of the Penny was comparable to that of my Juliets; very very sleek. My only complaint (apart from them being too small for me) would be the orbitals and spring hinges. The lens shape have always seemed a bit odd to me (but I have become more used to it), and they are relatively small (I felt like I was wearing a wire frame in terms of the coverage). The spring hinges weren't bad in terms of comfort, but because of my larger face size, it looked weird when the springs were stretched, and didnt make the glasses feel as secure. Other than that, I enjoyed my pleasant (but short) time with the Pennys.

Fasten your seat belt foos...slap this on and you will feel the RUSH! This is what I consider their Full Throttle/ Hyper Threading Glasses. 2nd to none (maybe the Juliet's) WARNING: Too Hot to Handle, Handle w/ Extreme Caution!
Frame: X-Metal, Polished

heh, after getting the Ruby Juliet's, I had to get these too. The Penny's smaller size looks better on my face, but my small flat nose doesn't do well to hold the Penny's up, they sit too low on my face. The flex couplers on the Juliet's also grip my head much better then the spring hinges on these Penny's. The Ruby lenses as always look fantastic, I give it a 4 with the only con being the price.
Frame: X-metal
Lens: Ruby
Actually, this is kind of misleading as I got two different pairs of the Penny frame and switched out the lenses. I took out the Ruby lenses from the X-metal frame and put them into the polished frame so the X-metal frame would be free to house the Black Iridium lens: I thought this would keep in line with the original X-metal color scheme I've grown to like with the first X-metals. It's too bad that Oakley only made available the X-metal frame with a ruby lens.
I'm not a huge fan of Oakley spring hinge temples, though, or spring hinges in general. These hug my face very closely, so I haven't really had a chance to gauge them with a less biased viewpoint.
In the meantime, the Polished frame, ruby lensed Pennies are sitting next to the others as display accoutrements.
Frame: X-Metal
Lens: Ruby
OK, does any one person really need two pairs of Penny's? No, but when I found out that Oakley discontinued this color combination, I had to make sure I got a pair of this limited edition before they all disappear. The X-Metal frame has a nice matte gray finish that complements the Ruby lenses very well. I prefer the lens tints that offer increased contrast, but I had to have these anyway.
Frame: Titanium
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium
Perhaps my favorite pair of Oakley's. I definitely prefer the fit of the spring hinges rather than the flex couplers on the Juliet. The frame has a very balanced feel... it stays put even though I have a small/flat nose. The sculptural styling of the frame is cool (if you appreciate that kind of thing, of course). The VR28 Black Iridium lenses are great for most light conditions.
