These were my first pair of Oakleys. Bought them in about 1998 in Electric Mustard when I was a teenager. I wore them for a couple of years until they broke. At the time they seemed like the coolest pair of sunglasses I had ever seen but looking back now they kinda look silly. I would love to have another pair in my collection someday.

As far as I am concerned there is no other pair of sunglasses for sport. These are the sunglasses that put OAKLEY on the map, and now everything is square lens and so boring. I thankfully still have my eye jacket but long for the day when they reissue their flagship eye jacket. There is every kind of jacket except the one that everyone wants the EYE Jacket.
Frame: FMJ 5.56
Lens: Black Iridium
These were my first Oakley's and I thought that they still were although your website has made me realise that that's probably not the case. I got these back in I guess '95 and absolutely loved them. Had a part time job and probably cost a few weeks' wages but worth every penny. After a few years though the frame cracked at the bottom of one of the lenses and they went back to Oakley for a replacement frame. I thought at the time that the new frame colour was slightly off (less metallic silver and more white chrome) but put it down to my imagination. I now think that I got a New Eye Jacket frame in replacement. Gutted. They're good, but just not quite perfect, which the originals were. Like many others here I'd love to see them back in the range. A lot of the latest models are just too bulky and ostentatious. The early FMJs were pure style.
Frame: Pearl
Lens: Black Iridium
My very first pair of oakley sunglasses. I wore these quite a lot, and they fitted me very nicely. Just right. Oval shaped glasses were quite popular during the early to mid nineties. So i used to think most oval shaped glasses were an oakley because of the ellipse icon insignia. I wasnt really paying attention to sunglasses then. When i became serious about owning a quality pair of sunglasses, i was instantly drawn to this pair of oakley. It looked good on other faces, and when i went to a SGH store to try these on for myself, the decision was an easy one to make. I was keen on the pearl frame beforehand because i thought it went well with a suntan. The left earstem snapped off twice on two different occasions, which meant i had to get them sent in for a replacement. This is the only downside to an outstanding pair of sunglasses that saw a lot of use. I look for any chance of getting another pair of these. I also got the Electric Mustard frame.
Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium
Like most this was my first pair of glasses. Being an Orlando native I remember watching Shaquille O'Neil conduct an interview with these on and I said to myself I had to have them. I wore prescription glasses at the time so I got contacts. Still have these to this day though the lenses are scratched and peeling. They have also made many trips to HQ.
Frame: FMJ 7.62
Lens: Black Iridium
By far the funkiest (in a good way) Oakley's I've owned. the 7.62 is a dark grey frame with a super sparkly metallic, and looks great with the black iridium lenses. These looked cool back in the day, and they still look good - if you have a pair you can wear out, they will get comments. Mine have had no frame issues even though I used to wear them everyday and haven't treated them gently, although they do need new earsocks, which I hope the nearest O store can locate for me. Very cool shades.

Frame: cobalt
Lens: +red iridium
Im really happy I bought these when they came out. Now when I see how rare they are and how much they are being sold for they were a good investement
Frame: FMJ 5.56
Lens: Black Iridium
Great lens for extremely bright and windy conditions. As documented, the temples are ultra fragile. Replacement temples have lasted a number of years. The color has peeled off of the frames around the nosepiece. Had these since 1995 but just use them now for outdoor activities where eye protection is a must - chain sawing, power equipment operation.
Frame:Black
Lens: Black Iridium
Like many other reviewers, this was the first pair of Oakleys I owned. It was also the only pair of sunglasses I owned for over a decade, until they finally broke.
I have nothing but positive memories of these sunglasses, and I wish they were still making them. They looked good, felt good, and fit well, even though I was still growing during many of the years I owned them.
After they broke, I went through four pairs of cheap sunglasses, all breaking within weeks of purchasing them, before coming to my senses and buying some Oakley Fives.
Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium
The second Oakley I owned in high school and still nothing brings that old feeling back. I first remember seeing them on an older guy at church when I was in middle school. I heard they cost $100 dollars and didn’t understand why. Over time I learned what the icon was, what it represented and knew I had to have a pair for myself. I originally settled for the fives because of price, but I soon saved up and got the pair I really wanted. They are long since lost, but if I could get my hands on a pair today at a reasonable price I would wear them everywhere.
No other jacket says Oakley quite like this pair. The orbital themselves remind on of the icon they represent. They are comfortable, look great, and the optics are phenomenal; everything an Oakley should be. I would love to see them brought back in the original form or an update that pays homage to the original.

First pair of Oakleys. I had a few, actually. These were the pair to have, back in high school. Pretty big on my small face but it was mainly the nostalgia of wearing the glasses. Good for people with bigger heads. The ear socks are great if you're sweating. Otherwise, not the most stylish or comfortable
Frame: Electric Mustard
Lens: Black Iridium
This was the pair to own when I was in High School. I always wanted a pair, but went with my gut and got Straight Jackets. I'm proud to have my pair now, but for the life of me, I can't understand why they were so popular...
Frame: Cobalt
Lens: +Red Iridium
Before I turned 16, I had a few pairs of fake eyejackets. They sold them everywhere in NYC & Boston. Vendors on every street corner assaulting you with fake goods. I didn't have a job and couldn't afford real oakleys, so I bought a couple pairs of fake ones...@ $5 a pop, it was hard to resist. The first pair I bought was in Boston on my way to a Sox game. They broke before I got into the stadium. The second pair I had for a much longer time...but never really wore them. Well, guess what...after a few times of wearing them, they broke too. Unfortunately, by the time I got a real job, I couldn't just go out and buy eyejackets any more. Plus, at the time I was still pretty satisfied with the one pair of real Oakley's I owned.
I found this pair on eBay a few years back. They were the frame/lens combo I remember drooling over in magazines. Cobalt and Red Iridium. Mmmmmmmmmm, delicious. They sold for super cheap too. I got them, put them on a shelf and never wore them. I still have them today, and they're still on a shelf. I'm almost afraid to wear them because of how easily the fakes ones I owned broke. Almost like a jinx...
I'm giving them a rating of 4 because of their overall coolness factor, coupled with their functionality, but what they make up in those categories, they lack structural integrity in the earstems. They do look great at any angle. When I did wear them the couple times, the earsocks, never wanted to let go of my face, they held on tight. They sit just right on my nose, and even when I push them all the way up the bridge of my nose, they are still comfortable. The vision is as crystal clear as can be, and they provide GREAT converage. If I wasn't afraid of breaking an earstem, I'd wear these every day.
Frame: Cobalt
Lens: + Red
One of the first frames I ever owned, the arms were brittle, the price was more than the Frogskins I had bought in the past, and they were almost too small for my face when I was 15. Still, my ex-brother-in-law borrowed the, broke them, and they were never seen again. Nostalgia overcomes me, and I've replaced them. They're the same as a I remember, but the frame/lens combo is PERFECT.
Frame: Blk
Lens: Blk Iridium
My first Oakleys as well, bought in early ninties. Still love 'em and the coverage they afford though it seems the older I get the higher on my nose they want to sit. Sure it's me but enough to keep them in the collection rather than on my face for the most part. Still, perfect beach wear and eclectic enough to stand out in any crowd. I continue to look for more color variations for some reason if that says anything.
Frame: Cobalt
Lens: + Red Iridium
I recently got these and I was extremely excited seeing as how I'd never seen an Eye Jacket before. I haven't seen anything recently that's similar in design to the Cobalt frame and +Red Iridium has always been a favorite of mine. These are going right on display for me.
Frame: Cheetah / Cobalt
Lens: Gold / +Red
While I have the print on the Four S, having the original model is all the better. Coming out to supplement the tiger striped Straight Jacket and Racing Jackets, the full collection of Big Cats is one worth being proud.
The Cobalt/+Red is another striking combination. As one of the many crackle frame prints, it goes surprisingly well with the deep +Red lens.
Frame: Electric Mustard & FMJ 5.56
Lens: Black Iridium
The original Oakley look and the first ones copied by counterfeiters are still classy as they are classic. I've had probably a dozen pairs of these in different colors and lens combinations, but my favorite lens of all time is Black Iridium, and my two most memorable frames would have to be the Electric Mustard and FMJ 5.56. Both classified as FMJ and said to be stronger than normal O-matter frames, I broke these two more often then the O-matters! These would get 5/5, but only make 4/5 because of their fragile nature.
Frame: Electric Mustard
Lens: Black Iridium
I've had the opportunity to own 3 pairs of this colorway & All 3 have had variations in coloration. My latest one's are much lighter than my previous pair but both are gorgeous shades of Orange. You definitely have to want to be noticed to wear these. They are not subtle.
Frame: Black
Lens: Black
I'm a bit late to the game, but I like these better than a lot of newer frames that seem to be designed for the sake of style. These are simple, useful, give good coverage, and look great. I put a dab of 15 minute epoxy at the sharp edge under the earsock so hopefully they won't break. I took off a star because the stems are a bit fragile.
Frame: Blood
Lens: Black Iridium
These were my first pair, back in '94 or '95 maybe. Bought them from a friend at a bike shop. I used them for years until I jumped up to Topcoats. Don't know if I can part with them, but I never wear them anymore. They are a little too tight as mentioned below, and the earstems are a little week. Can't remember how many times I got new ones from Oakley, but still, great glasses. Besides M-Frames, these were the most recognizable glasses back in the day!
Frame: Cobalt/Gold X/Fingerprint/Cheetah
Lens: +Red/Gold/Black/Gold
I never gave these much thought when I was younger and could just pick up a pair at any Oakley dealer because I tried a pair on (that belonged to a friend) and they just fit a little too tight. Years later (2006) I picked up my first pair (cobalt w/scratched +Red lenses) for really cheap on craigslist. Sure enough, they still fit too tight but I figured it would be OK to wear them a little bit. I wore them for a total of about 30 minutes before one of the earstems snapped about 98% of the way through. After a little superglue, I decided that these are for the display case only (at least for me). I love the crazy color configurations on these (especially fingerprint and cheetah). They look great in the display case, reminiscent of Oakley's earlier, more daring days. Only a 3 star rating because of the weakness of the earstems. If they made these stronger I'd give them 5 stars.
Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium
These things are awesome. Great eye coverage, sweet look, great fit, and very comfortable. I'd probably had these things for between 8 and 10 years (I can't remember exactly when I got them) before they broke (the right earstem broke off when I was putting them on). It's really too bad that they don't make these anymore, but there are some on eBay, so I'm going to check those out. I'm not sure if I would do any kind of sport (except motorsports) in these things, but they're perfect for anything else.
Frame:Rootbeer
Lens:Gold Iridium Polarized
The penultimate pair of EJs to complete the collection.
Sadly ive got this frame twice already in the EJs this one comes with the Gold Polar lens, this combo has been a complete nightmare to track down.
Frame: cobalt
Lens: red iridium
great color combi. the lens block out the sun pretty well. the frame hide nicks and scratches very well so after all these years, they still look good. but i stopped buying eye jackets once they took on funny shapes
Frame:Cobalt
Lens: +Red lenses
I'm not really keen on the Cobalt frame, it's more of a personal preference. However, I absolutely dig the +red lenses. Look at it straight on and it will show a blue/purple hue. from the sides it will look a deep red (which is sweet).
I've not been kind to this pair. But after so many years the build is still strong and working. The earstems can be snapped off and put back on when too much pressure is applied. Quite an interesting safety factor.
Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium
Just got these from my dad. Pretty nice and classic. Not too flashy. Great eye coverage as well as good looking.
Frame: Cheetah
Lens: Gold Iridium
Exotic print. Frame fits great and the size of the lens is just about right. Not too big nor small. Its wrap around design also helps in blocking the light. Print goes well only with girls though. A nice display item beside the RJ Bengals.
Frame: Moss
Lens: Gold Iridium
My first pair of Oakleys I bought so many years ago. Started the addiction. I retired them some time ago but i really wish theyd rerelease the frame color! I get asked all the time if they are still available
Frame: fingerprint & cheetah
Lens: black & gold
This is the frame that ignited the global recognition for oakley , an icon in its truest form, the most ever copied piece on the entire planet, comfortable and leightweight, with great vision. had only one flaw , it snapped on the earstems way too often
, therefor not a 5 but a 4
Frame:Black
Lens:Black Iridium
Sadly a rather boring combo compared to other EJs but most frames do come in the Black/Black Combo so it is a must for a complete collection.
Frame:Corten
Lens:Gold Iridium
Pair no.32
this is a very nice combo but it is very similar to other eye jacket models. black gold, carmel and redline are all very similar to corten, it is a dark orangey brown. looks great with the GI lens.
Frame: Fuel
Lens: Gold
I wish I still had these. Unfortunately the earstems on them broke and Oakley had discontinued them so I was not able to get a replacement. They weren't that durable and I had to send them in twice, but Oakley changed them for no charge and they also paid for shipping to them and back to me which was very cool. I hope Oakley remakes these like the Razorblades.
Frame:Fingerprint
Lens: Black Iridium
A must have for any vintage collection.
A smaller version of the super cool Trenchcoat, these were released in 1994, and are still pretty cool and wearable today.
Frame: Gold X
Lens: Gold
One of my original pairs of Oakleys. I love the gold lens. I feel like I can see a lot clearer with these. Again, the earstems broke on mine twice like my fuels. Still, I love the shape of em and the style.
Frame:Rootbeer
Lens:Grey Polarized
Pair no.30
once again not the nicest EJ frame colour but this combo is very very rare and was one of my big holy grails.
i am confused as to why the rootbeer frame was used 3 times in the first gen EJ range.
Frame:Rootbeer
Lens:Gold Iridium
Pair no.29
not the prettiest pair of of eye jackets but was one of my holy grails because this is such a rare combo. was also made in the EJ 3.0
a very dark cloudy crystal brown.
Frame:10W40
Lens:Black Iridium
Pair no.28
this was a major holy grail for me and id never thought id find a mint pair let alone BNIB.
this is such an awesome colour its like a cloudy crystal orange. much darker and more orangey than the new 10W40 that has been released in the MD.
good choice with the BI lens i tihnk it would look bad with any other colour.
Frame: Electric Mustard
Lens: /Black Iridium
my first pair.. the color is very different and grabs your attention when you first see them, they are classic
Frame:Blood
Lens:Black Iridium
Pair no.27
I have this combo in the trenchcoats so same coments as before about the combo. but i definately thinks it looks better on the trenchcoats.
blood is such a great name for a rather boring dark red colour.
Frame:FMJ+
Lens:+ Red Iridium
Pair no.26
this is a gorgeous combo, I once had it on the twentys but it looks way way better on the EJ.
pale silver and Bright bluey red go so well together.
great combo and so rare i thought i may never find them.
Frame: Cobalt
Lens: + Red Iridium
This really is an AWESOME colour combo, and I find it suits the EJs the best. The eye jacket really is awesome. Comfortable, light, and look wicked cool. the 2.0 and 3.0 can't touch it... I wish they still made these.
Frame:FMJ 7.62
Lens:Black Iridium
pair no.25
this is one of my fave colours. ive got it on the trenchcoat aswell.
this is easily one of the nicest FMJs that oakley do. it would be great to see this colour again on some newer styles.
Frame:Black
Lens:VR28
Pair no 24.
sadly one of many many black frames that were made in the EJ.
unlike its trenchcoat big brother this combo has silver icons and script instead of gold.
Frame: fmj
Lens: black iridium
light and roundy makes you look like an alien, which is a good thing depending on who you are.
Frame: cobalt
Lens:+red iriduim
can these still get fixed mine broke on the top of the right lens
if anybody knows e-mail me

Frame: FMJ 9mm
Lens: Black Iridium
I thought I was getting the FMJ 5.56 when I purchased these off eBay. To my disappointment, the 9mm arrived. I like it, but it just doesn't have the "kick" of the 5.56. The similarity in tones between the frame and lenses give it that monotone look which I'm not a real fan of. From far off it looks like you are wearing goggles or something. That said, I would put them on my Top 10 Eye Jackets list. I am currently purusing the 5.56 since it was the first pair of Oakleys that ever caught my eye. My best friend bought them and I've always admired them since.
Frame: Electric Mustard
Lens: Black Iridium
This was my very first pair of "flashy" Oakleys. Picked them up at Nordstrom's in Seattle in the summer of '97 before leaving to teach English in Japan. I later lent them to a buddy and he lost them. Just recently I decided to replace them, and with the help of Lex, the Eye Jacket/Trench Coat master, I found a pristine pair. They aren't the originals but they help fill a void I've felt for years. The Electric Mustard frame color is extreme, and expect people to check you out if you have these babies on. To me, they are a substantial piece of Oakley history that still looks cool.
Frame:Moss
Lens:Gold Iridium
another nice green/gold combo in the eye jacket.
as always same great things about eye jackets to say but youve heard it all before.
this is pair number 20,
mmmwwwuuuhhhahahaha i wont be long before i have them ALLLLLLL!!!
Frame:Pearl
Lens:+Red Iridium
these are super sweeet, the shiny white and the red goes perfectly together,
i really needed a nice bright light colour to brighten up my eye jacket collection and this does the job very well.
gorgeous combo.
Frame: Gold X
Lens: Gold
These really lived up to their name. These were really the first Oakleys to fit like we all know Oakleys to fit now. The Zeros & blades were very cool but these took it to a new level.
Frame:Fuel
Lens:Gold Iridium
FINALLY, Ive been wanting a pair of these for too long.
they are so fookin cool and obviously rare cos it took me so long to find a pair.
finally my crackle collection is complete.
Frame:Gold X
Lens:Gold Iridium
Another great frame with the Gold Iridium lens.
the gold iridium lens was widely used in the eye jacket range. maybe this is why oakley now over use black Iridium.
Gold X is very similar to the Texas Tea frame in frogskin.
its a nice goldy bronzey colour with a reptile skin effect.
Frame: 7.62
Lens: Black
A classic! But sadly, I would probably give the Jackets one of my lowest ratings simply due to the eternal "my earsocks broke in the middle" problem. Past that, though, sweet classic styling with a myriad of colors to choose from. Plus, each time I had the earstems replaced, Oakley replaced the complete frame (to keep the color matching). And who would be upset and getting a new frame! :)
Frame:Tortoise
Lens:Gold Iridium
I have been wanting a Tortoise frame for so long and I finally found these. They look so good. The tortoise frame is one of the more wierd looking frames which is why I like them so much. It is nice to have a multi coloured frame.
Also goes perfectly with the Gold Iridium lens.
Frame:Ivory/Straight
Lens:Gold Iridium
This was my second choice when I bought my first pair of eye jackets back in 1995.
I have been wanting them for ages and I finally found them a few months ago.
The ivory is such a nice simple colour and just compliments the gold Iridium lens soo well.
The Ivory frame colour is a nice beige colour and is much nicer than the Pearl colour that oakley also do.
Frame:Electric Mustard
Lens:Black Iridium
This colour frame is gorgeous, its called Electric Mustard but it is actually a very bright FMJ Gold colour but I guess oakley wanted a weirder name than FMJ gold.
Great retro pair for the collection.
Frame:45mm FMJ
Lens:Gold Iridium
I love all the FMJ frames, this is probably my least favourite one, its a bit too silvery coloured for me, its not as dark as the others, which is what I prefer.
If we ever get the pictures back, you can see it is alot lighter in real life than in the picture.
Frame:Fingerprint
Lens:Black Iridium
One of oakleys most unique frame colours, this black and white stripped frame really does look like a close up shot of a fingerprint.
it is a shame that oakley have not repeated this colour on another oakley frame.
Frame:Carmel
Lens:VR50
Got these for 2 reasons.
one cos im trying to collect all the original eye jackets and two cos I wanted the VR50 lens.
The carmel frame is a browny orange colour looks very similar to a dark pumpkin.
the VR50 lens and the Carmel frame compliment eachother well.
Frame:Cheetah
Lens:Gold Iridium
Has to be one of the craziest frame colours around.
Only available on Fates and Four S.
Looks great and very different.
Perfectly accompanied by the gold Iridium lens, Although im annoyed its not Leather Gold Iridium like the Fate and the Four S because I dont have that lens.
I wish Oakley would do more Animal Coloured Frames.
Frame: Gold X
Lens: Gold Iridium
My second pair of Oakleys, and also my favorites. Why only the 3 star rating?
I had to keep replacing the arms because they would break. But the fit and the look were perfect. Oakley needs to bring back this frame (in a more durable material of course)
Frame: Fuel
Lens: Gold Iridium
My first pair of oakleys, feel a bit large for me when compared to my fave t wires. I fell on the glasses when skiing once, both of the arms came off but it was just a case of snapping them back on the frame and they were as good as new. Used mainly for driving nowaday as the larger frames keep the sun out better.
Frame: cobalt
Lens: +Red
One of my very first pair that I actually used everyday. The ear stems gave up on me so many times and the lens got really beat up. This was once my favorite when I go rollerblading for miles. I just thought it looked so cool. I goes with speed!1994 was the year if I remember correctly. I really wanted to collect all the color but I thought it was silly.
Frame: Black Gold
Lens: Gold Iridium
My first pair of Oakley's - just because they seemed to be THE Oakley to have at the time. After the novelty wore off, I felt like a bit of a fly, but I've started wearing them again now and they still look cool. The Corten frame seems rarer than others so my pair look distinctive, and the build quality on these are excellent - better than my XX. The Gold Iridium lens is really good and the frame design is timeless.
Frame: Black Gold
Lens: Gold Iridium
This was my first pair and since then I got 4 more pairs of Original jackets.
I love them, they are my most used pair, they are now so flexible I can pop the arms off and put them back on with no trouble at all. and for a pair of glasses over 9 years old they only have 2 tiny scratches on them.
gold iridium is by far my favourite lens it makes everything look better when your wearing them on a really sunny day.
I love the original eye jackets they come in the best frame colours I hope one day to own every single colour.
Frame: Moss
Lens: Gold Iridium
I got this pair for the Gold Iridium lenses, and the Moss frame, a nice metallic dark green, went well with the lenses. This pair had the improved ear stem design, so I did not experience any breakage. These served me well for a few years, but again, when Oakley began expanding their product line, I found models that fit better and gave these to my sister.
Update: Got these back from my sis, who wasn't wearing them any more. The RH lens orbital cracked, but she did a nice job super-gluing it back together. Still in good shape otherwise. Since they don't fit nearly as well as my other glasses, they'll probably just sit on display now. Moss sure is a pretty color.
Frame: Cobalt
Lens: +Red Iridium
My very first pair of Oakley's. Great for cycling, as they did a nice job keeping the wind out of my eyes. Like most early Eye Jackets, the ear stems broke at the thin part where the ear sock sits due to stress concentration from flexing. Oakley eventually improved the design (i.e. smooth curves instead of sharp corners), and I did not have any further problems after getting warranty replacement parts. I eventually parted with these as Oakley released newer models that fit my face better.
Frame: Fuel/Cobalt
Lens: Gold/+Red
This was the first Oakley I had owned two of the same. When it first showed up in Ivory and Fuel I was on it as fast as I could get it. I loved the Gold Iridium lens instantly and the Fuel frame was so different. Cobalt I grabbed about 4 months later and had actually found it with both Black and +Red lenses. I grabbed the +Red because it looked nicer with the blue. It's a great lens as well for a dark lens with color. They should have kept a few of these around. So many people still ask me if they are available.
