Oakleys make up the bulk of my collection, but I've owned sunglasses from Ray Ban and Calvin Klein, and have a couple pairs of high-end designer shades, too (Blinde and Sama). Really like Oliver Peoples, Mosley Tribes, Chrome Hearts and Silhouette, too, and will be adding some frames from each over the next few months.

Just curious if anyone else shares my... "eclectic" tastes. :p

I wouldn't say I "collect" other eyewear, but I always buy something that I find interesting. Parasite has quickly become one of my favourite brands with their unique design. Their design philosophy was what Oakley's used to be. I love Chrome Hearts as well, but I haven't stepped up and bought one yet. I dabbled with Sama and Blinde's Matrix stuff in the past and RB as well. There are a bunch of others as well, but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

I used to collect sunglasses. Oakley always dominated, but I had a few pairs of Nikes, Spys, a terrible Bolle, and a few Armani's. I still have one non-Oakley pair because it makes me look really really rich, but it doesn't see much action.

I've been buying Dragons from the begining, before it was widely known they were Oakley. Have had a few pre-Lux Arnette Swingers as well. They were nice and they don't feel near the same now. A Killer Loop too somewhere in the past.

Seriously though, I have owned really super duper cheapees that you wouldn't care if you killed. I have a pair of Smith ski googles that I occasionally use only because my Wisdoms are HI blue and not suitable for bright conditions.

At the risk of being banned, I own some Mosley Tribes, Costa Del Mars, Arnettes, Dragons, and Smiths. I will pretty much only pick something like that up if I go to my local sunglass O dealer and they have nothing new. Once I've got the mindset that I'm going to get a new pair, I'm not leaving that store without something! Fortunately, I find an appropriate O about 98% of the time.... Please don't ban me....

I think you can stave off a ban as long as you enroll in some sort of "help" program. Kind of like Bill and his obsession with speed! Show you have remorse and the judges may take pity on you!

The first step is admitting you have a problem.

The second step is literally a step, as in you must step on and crush any none Oakley sunnies.

The third and final step is you must get an O-tatoo on your forhead and repent for your sins until the day you die.

I played the role of SGH PT employee for a while back in 1996/1997 and walked away with some different glasses from Revo, Maui Jim, RB, and even a sweet Vaurnet. All were exchanged back in for new O in short time, though.

I have one pair of non oakleys, its an 80's vintage pair of raybans that my dad gave me. Dont worry, i loathe Rayban but the pair he gave me are kinda cool.

other than that theres only one pair of non oakley sunglasses that i want. The white Volpini Blinders froms the 70's. You may have seen Kanye West wearing them in his new videos/ performances. Im a sucker for wierd/stupid looking sunglasses.

a pair of killer loop -99 degrees (they were cheap and look like zeros)

2 pairs adidas evil eye (they are amazingly versatile. Come on Oakley, where are the interchangeable earstems/straps)


used to have 2 other pairs of killer loops and I recently found the receipt for the very first pair of sunglasses I ever bought. I paid 15 Dutch guilders (about £5 at the time) for the cheapest pair of sunglasses my local optician sold (even at the age of 14 I didnt want some piece of junk from a market stall). Thats what started it all off

I'm hoping attitudes have mellowed since the Inquisitions of '07 and the demise of Oakley.
Certainly, one can be forgiven if smitten by sunglasses before the miraculous acension of JJ and his empire we all aspire to...

In 1965, I was a painfully prepubescent lad, whose eyes would often get me "in trouble" (yes, I'm old).
I bought my first pair of sunglasses to preclude such embarrassments, Sea and Ski Girl/Boy Watchers.
They were an attempt to hide wandering eyes in the age before 3 micron translucent iridium coatings.
They worked, but the resultant headaches generated did not.

Still have 'em.
Flight training requires long hours in the sun, and vision is supercritical. 1968 saw my purchase of RayBan Wayfarers with approved G15 lenses.

Still have 'em.
Throughout the '70s and 80's, I wore a succession of RayBan Aviator Outdoorsman, most of which, I still have.

Once I discovered the M Frame for my cycling affliction, the Aviators sat, forevermore, in the drawer.
One O lead to another into the 21st century.
64 79 84 91 Oakleys later, and with the overthrow by Lux, I find my eyes wandering once again...

Nice. A great variety there and you kept them all in great shape. The Clayton Franklin 502 is especially cool.

B&L-owned Ray-bans are of great quality. I had a neighbour who wore his yellow-tinted aviators almost daily from the late '70s when he bought them until his death a few years back, and they were still in fantastic condition.

Confession is indeed good for the soul, so I must admit I rarely wear Oakley glasses nowadays. I use pretty much every other Oakley product on a daily basis, but I don't much enjoy wearing Oakley eyewear these days (whether new or vintage). Still love the design, artistry and collecting them however.

For me, I've worn anything and everything. Like you, I still have my old pairs from when I was a kid in the '80s. They were clunky old man glasses which, ironically, have become the in thing for millennials. I have many dozen pairs from other companies, but I tend to focus on a Chrome Hearts and Dita these days, especially for Rx. I've tried pretty much all the top brands out there, but my go-to pair for sunglasses is the Oliver Peoples Patten. It's a navigator that fits me perfectly, and the Barberini lenses are the best i've had the pleasure of looking through.

My first endeavor was with B&L. Like you Awsome collectors I was wearing Wayfarers in the late 70s and ever since, I was only introduced to Oakley after 2011 sadly. but slowly making up for it. I probably own over 300 pairs half of which are pre Lux. The pride of the collection are the Olympics releases as well as the Leather photocromic. Also Persol, Oliver People's, Tom Ford, Prada, Dolce Gabbana, Maui Jim and Costas. Oakley collectors are truly blessed with People like Dann and this most Awsome website and it's database. I have looked high and low for something anywhere remotely similar for Ray Ban collectors to no avail.

That sounds like an awesome collection you have there.

I agree the OR is the first of its kind. No other brand has such dedicated collectors like Oakley. I hope Ray-ban gets a similar site one day, but only after I get my RB holy grail: A pair of mint Operation Deep Freeze glasses with bottom bars and matching case.
