A very unique and almost exclusive hue, the Ruby Clear tint is amazing in its own right. The lens itself is beautiful with an almost transparent look bathed in a shimmering red color. Ideal for low-light conditions, this is not a lens you'd wear on a bright day - although it would still provide protection from harmful UV rays. The exclusive nature of this lens - that is, the very few pairs that have used this color combination - makes it that much more collectible.

I bought a 1st Gen Crosshair with Ruby Clear specifically for use as an indoor lens for when I'm sitting at a computer and staring at spreadsheets for hours on end. I've read everywhere that H.I. Yellow is the tint preferred for computers, but I find the yellow a bit dark. Ruby Clear seems to do the job well, and it's unique.

These lenses capture the true essence of Oakley. They're outlandish, extravagant, attention-grabbing and, most importantly, highly functional if used appropriately. These sunglasses were not designed for glare; whether it's sunlight or passing car lights at dusk. These lenses were specifically designed for the very flat light conditions found in heavy cloud cover. If the Ruby Clears are used in the appropriate conditions, they function as well as the very best Oakley optics available.

An incredible 92% transmission and, yet, one of the most intriguing, changeable and striking lens coatings Oakley has ever made. Bring it back out and please, this time, sell it to the general public. Please!

I have this in my Thump2. This finally makes the Thump2 useful in bad weather or inside. All the lenses that are sold with the Thumps are for good weather. With the help of these Ruby Clears you can wear them at any given time.
The Ruby Clear is very useful in the Thump2, a good transmission rate to wear inside and a nice lens tint on its own. The Thump on it's hand helps the Ruby Clear lens: the ghosting is a lot less because of the big frame. This way you can have the best of both worlds!

I'm actually surprised by the relatively-high ratings this lens has received by those who have reviewed it. I love it, but I can see a huge reason not to and that is the crazy ghosting/back lighting effect. I wore them on a walk home and thought I was being tailed by a convoy of emergency vehicles. The flashes or pink, blue, and red were driving me crazy. But, that said, these are different and something different is just what any collection needs. If you are looking for a lens you can wear on a day-to-day basis this is NOT for you. But, if you are looking for something unique the Ruby Clear is just what the doctor ordered!

what a thing of beauty is this lenstint ! i have it in a WHY 3 , and if i want to go out at night in style, this is the lens to do it with. little downside is the ghosting, but once you wear it for half an hour , you will be used to it

Good indoor lens, but very reflective to both sides :( Nice to collect but not really useable, for me. But Jeepster I think you will get 'em soon

One of the biggest conversation starters Oakley has ever offered/produced. 4 Stars due to the rarity and I'm bitter that I don't have any. Definetly should add something with Ruby Clear into your collection!!

One of my favorite lens, better suited for night clubs, shopping malls or when the sun goes down.

A light blue when you are looking trough, shades of red/orange with a mix of clear from the outside. The light blue tint is VERY soothing for the eyes, kinf ok like persimmon is.

There is no double coating on the Unknown or Monster Dog models.

But on the Why 3, there is and it might give you headaches and distortion. For the Why 3, I strongly recommend you try them first.

I wanted to find a pair of clear lens that is unlike any other, and unique. I thought of getting the Ti Clear lens but when I first saw this lens, its The One!! I expected it to give red hue but its not as red as I expected, tends to be orange-ish. The lens is clear, have red hue and blue tint, when seen from different angles. Not recommended for driving since they're reflective on the back side. But they're one-off!

A real head-turner. Light-blue base, but doesn't really make that much difference. Nice to wear out when you want something a little different - look perscription in the Why 3's. Only thing I don't like is sometimes the lens appears blue when people look at it - but it depends heavily on batch.

There is really no lens like it! Hard to come by in the States, but very unique with Iridium on both sides of the lenses. Throws things the the Ruby blue when looking through the lens, but keeps things very bright.

Awesome iridium in the front. Awesome iridium in the back. Looking through them is a bit interesting but these are really nice looking lenses.

Beautiful lens. But what's with the iridium on the back. Makes it a little odd to put on, but once it's there, you're stylin' like no other.

I love this lens! It works well with glasses that have a low base curve (like the Why 3), since you will be able to see the red more. Oakley should've keep production up on this lens.
LEX7 -
The base on this lens is in fact clear its just the ruby coating that makes you think it has a light blue base.
If it did have a light blue base it would offer more protection from the sun.
this is a great lens and gets alot of looks when your wearing it.
these seem to brighten up a rainy day but would best be used inside to dull down bright lights.

These are BEAUTIFUL. The base is not clear, as this database says, but light blue. Oddly enough though, you can hardly notice the blue tint looking through them. The Ruby Clear coating is double sided, so you catch red reflections on the inside of the lens too, which is pretty cool. These are an amazing looking set of lenses that reflect off red/pink/orange reflections. Useless as they may be as sunglass lenses, they are still among my favorite oakley lenses.

i had these in my pair of Why3's, sadly they didn't fit my huge head... definitely one of the most eye-catching lens color Oakley has ever made, if not for functional purposes anyway. the Ruby Clear is supposed to be clear base, but the Iridium coating results in a slightly blueish tint when looking through them.
