Comparable to black iridium with the added benefit of polarization. Good reflectivity on the outside due to the iridium coating. Good tint while not changing color perception when looking through the lens. If polarization is a needed or preffered option then these are great lenses.

I have had experience with a number of Oakley lenses. in Iraq I had half jackets with grey transition, gold iridium polarized. I also had a set of fire iridium polarized and regular black non polarized. I now have a pair of Flak jackets with positive red iridium non polarized. If you are in harsh environments yes the films are going to break down faster because you are getting sand blasted in the fast. If that's not the case then you are either not caring for your lenses properly or using an off brand cleaner. Do not use the stuff from lensecrafters it will I repeat it will mess up your lenses. There are slightly harsher chemicals in it that will break down the lense coatings on sunglasses. Use Oakley lense cleaner. Finally, yes these are good lenses take care of them and they will last a long time, just like anything else.

Have these in fast jacket. Great on very bright days, but maybe a little too dark sometimes and have to take them off especially when driving, becomes overcast, and I can't see the speedo. Also prefer something with a red/amber base so have bought some replacement lenses in 00 Black Irid Polar.
Mattes -
The perfect lens for very bright days. The polarization does add some wired effects to LCD screens and windscreens but I got used to it rather quickly. And it does remove a lot of glare while driving.
no thanks. -
mehhh. not my cup of tea. too much variations in color and shades. car windows all have the rainbow effect. digital displays also have rainbow effect. oils slicks look...different. I only noticed a slight improvement in glare reduction. not worth the extra money. imo. haven't tried them with water but i don't need to. scratches super easily. they're awesome when your outside. but i'll stick with black iridium.
Derick -
These lenses are darker than the oo black iridium polarized. I got these because of the base tint of grey. 00 black iridum polarized hase a brown red tint

Not the biggest fan of neutral lenses, but my go to pair for formal wear. Probably my favorite pair to slip on for weddings. Can't beat black on black. Nothing special, but it's still a fantastic lens option.
RefNoll -
Have them in a prescription lens, so I'd be stuck with them if I didn't like them. I do, though. Color is very nice and neutral, which is how I prefer it. I believe it's got a hydrophobic coating but there's no AR coating or it's very weak. They could stand to be a few percentage points lighter, though; on brightish but overcast days, the visibility isn't too low to use them, but the eyestrain is fatiguing. They're terrific for long days out in the sun, though, and for airshows, staring at the sky all day.

There are reviews criticizing the polarization because of the strange effects you get. Linear polarized lenses are what they are, you'll always get some weird effects. Wet or shiny surfaces will look odd during daytime, as will the sky; tilt your head *slighly* and the shiny bits (or the whole sky) change in brightness. LCD displays will darken, though most will be visible so long as you're looking straight-on. Glass may look rainbowy, including the glass covering screens (iPods, etc.), and windows (my car's windscreen doesn't display this, but the side windows do).

On the other hand, it really helps cut down glare from reflective surfaces, like cars and water. I really think polarization is invaluable in driving glasses.

I love my BIPL's. They keep the glare out and since I'm wearing Antix, I don't have to worry about glare when I'm going about myh business of enslaving the world.
Westbrook -
These lenses are excelent for driving, cutting glare and allowing you to see into the on comming car, good for fishing as you can see bellow, and especially for diving which I used my Gascan and Antix for, just one problem, salt water totally kills them! £90 for replacements x2,GREED! will I buy again? think not, Police or Rayban next time.
PaulT00 -
I have both plain black iridium (in an old pair of e-wire 2.1s) and the polarized version in my newer Whiskers. Of the two I wear the polarized version more. I actually find them really great for driving, even when the light is not that bright - they cut out reflections and haze really well and are very restful to wear on long drives (I often do a 6 hour motorway round trip). They're not flashy and they do the job.
xtremehardy388 -
I have these in my SI Square Wire 2.0s. Mainly used for summertime sun, these perform great. My eyes were thankful when I put these on. The dimming was great yet the clarity wasn't sacrificed!
Celicagame -
This is probably my second favorite polarized lens. It provides great coverage and goes well with any frame. In Florida it's dark enough for any day. I have these in gascans, fuel cells & dispatchs for when I want to be low key.

I have only worn Oakley glasses for 10+ years. I have 4 different pair of them. c-wires 1 with gold irid. lenses 1 with b.i. lenses, 1 pair of XX with b.i. polarized and my newest pair of oakleys are straight jackets with b.i. polarized. I have been extremely satisfied with the first three. I live in phoenix where the sun is intense all year around. As a professional driver the polarized is a must to cut down the glare. The lenses in my straight jackets have small bubbles in the lenses. Oakley has replaced my lenses 4 times and every set has bubbles. The reps at my local O store have been through at least 30 sets of lenses and they all have the same issue.hopefully they can get their quality control under control. oh yeah! almost forgot my frames cracked after only 1 month. maybe from changing the lenses too many times.
Reviewer -
Its good but darkens things whenever indoors id rather go with v20s
PastieMan -
Hardly Used. Scratched all over and coating on lenses bubbling. and laquer on frames coming off around contact points.

Oakley Polarized lenses are Super Fragile.

Very Disapointed!

From the looks of this review list, the blk irid plz lens option is a very popular one. For someone investing in their first pair I would recommend these. I tend to go for the more subdued lens color options which may have something to do with my conservative-like age so I only have blk irid plz, bronze plz and VR28 blk irid plz. THESE BLACK IRID PLZ are a little dark for my taste. I live in the tropics where it's extremely shiny and sometimes overcast. When the sun isn't strongest I find the need to take them off. Same with my VR28's but not my bronze ones. Nonetheless, the blk irid plz lenses are a great-gotta haves. I think they are the darkest ones int he lineup, right up there with gold and ice. For someone who spends all their time in exclusively outdoor extreme light and wants a lens that's not 'colored' this lens option is the way to go.
Wookieman -
I finally invested in Oakley's most popular polarized lens for my fuel cells. They are very clear and show true colors, but they are a little dark for my tastes. I was driving yesterday into direct sun and the cars looked like shadows. I couldn't make out the detail of anything. I think I'll stick with VR28 Black Iridium for driving. I can see why it has its fans, but not my favorite.
LoP -
my first polarized lens. love them. the lens itself has a pretty nice mirror effect from the outside. clear view from the inside. reviews on this site said they were too dark, though for los angeles california they are suitable for mostly every day of the year. very happy with the lens:D

I have had 2 pairs of these glasses and i love them apart from one thing. At around 14 months old and with hot weather, which is when you wear the glasses, the lenses start to get little pimples on them. I took the latest pair back to Oakley in Torquay Aust and they said it was normal so i contacted Aust head office but they wouldnt do anything about it because they were out of warranty. Crap, they are nearly $300AU for plastic and its a faulty product. In the interest of customer satisfaction they should at least assist in the replacement if not total replacement ant no cost. Based on this and Oakley's attitude towards customer service and their useless warranty, i will not be buying another Oakley product.
Ian -
This is my all-time favorite lens option. It does exactly what sunglasses were meant to do- cut down on light and eliminate glare.
jjkrause1 -
These are great lenses. I have a pair of Straight Jacket II's that came with Chrome Iridium and I traded those lenses for these. I was worried they wouldn't give off enough mirror. They don't have quite as much mirror as the Chrome, but they do have plenty.

As far as looking through them, they're pretty dark. If it's bright out, they're awesome. Anything in the shadows is very difficult to see though. If you walk inside you better take them off or you'll bump into something.
Toniclonic -
I have mixed feelings about this lens. It definitely does what it is supposed to do. It works very well in seriously intense lighting and from the outside it looks very sleek. The only thing I really don't like about them is that if you aren't in intense lighting they make it almost impossible to see.
NestoJR -
The black iridium polarized aren't quite perfect (then again, no lens can be ideal for every situation) but they are really great for what they're meant for and that is extremely bright conditions. I have Radars that I use for cycling and these are great, non-polarized lenses period just aren't up to snuff IMO. Glare is a major issue and you'll realize this if you wear polarized and non back to back. Also when passing through shady and brightly lit areas, flickering is an annoyance. With polarized there is none of this. Being for the brightest conditions, riding near dawn is difficult as its far too dark of course. Otherwise, superb lenses, great clarity and very good color accuracy. Sure, theres no tint and its a bit boring looking although they are mirrored and do their job excellently and are a great everyday lens. Highly recommended.
BigHonu -
I have had polarized lenses from Hobie, Revo, Bolle, and Maui Jim. The black iridium polarized cuts out the glare as well or better than the others and have excellent definition. My go to lenses when I'm headed to the beach.
Chopsticks -
I have them on 3 out of 4 pairs of oakleys i have/had. Square wire 2.0 spring hinge, monster dogs, and gascans. Currently I have the oil rigs with black iridium, but NON-polarized (for once because I never had non-polarized oakleys and i wanted to have 1 pair). As for the polarized, love the glare reduction and since I am from southern California, the sun is killer. Therefore, these lenses are perfect for all around beach/outdoor malls/driving, etc
Mike -
Its on my straight jacket. The thing with Black Iridium is it tends to look rather boring unless its paired with a classy black frame.

As such, I took it for granted as I wore it ALL THE TIME while I was outside for a couple of weeks. When I finally took it off, 'whoa'... no good, too hot. Quite frankly, even as boring as it looks, the polarized Oakley makes is quite outstanding and no competition comes close.

Smooth, cool and calm, razor-sharp vision for the Hottest of days and conditions.

I first tried these polarized lenses on a bashed up half jacket i bought off ebay (seller misled me, was supposed to be near new...but i still managed to sell it off). While I was "testing" these pair of sunglasses, I got used to the polarized effect after a while. You don't notice it right away, as with most lenses. And once I was "in the zone", you go like, "WOW"... these are really good. Only one word to describe them: soothing.

Take them off on a really hot, glaring sunny afternoon and you'll wonder how you ever lived without polarized. When I put on non-polarized, I tend to notice the glare off shiny surfaces now, and keep telling myself to get a pair with BIP. It's really that good; once you go polarized, you can't go back. Definitely better than grey polarized, with the iridium coating that reduces the glare even more. By far the best polarized lens from Oakley I've tried. Most of the Oakleys in my collection now are non-polarized, however. But these I'll miss, and may get a pair with BIP in the future.
MacD1919 -
One word, amazing. These are the best lenses I have found for ultra bright blinding days. Perfect for February in Ohio, when snow is constantly on the ground and glare is horrible. They are also money in the spring, and the summer. I have this lens in my cross hairs and my fives 3.0. It is by far my favorite lens. The mirror effect is a big bonus with it as well. It is not real flashy but nice and conservative. Get fire iridium or something like that if you want flashy
Macd1919 -
I have these lenses in my Fives. Polarized lenses were not designed to maintian normal contrast when looking at lcd screens. They were designed to drastically cut glare and extremely bright light from harming your eyes in places like the coean and places with alot of refelcted light. An lcd screen is not one of them. Black iridium is not black obviously it is the color grey or a draker grey and it is chosen due to the neutrality of the color. Grey in theory transmits all colors evenly and offers truer color perception. Some of you are misleading readers into thinking that theres not a whole lot of upside to the Iridium and thats just not true. They are my first pair of polarized lenses and i will never go back to regualr lenses. The rainbow effect is something weird and you will have to get used to it every once in awhile. That comes with every pair of good polarized lenses.
Airborne -
I have these in my Carbon frame Romeo 2.0, and they're great. Neutral base with the benefit of polarization, which is great for bright-light driving. I agree with other posters that these would be even better if they were slightly darker, but perhaps that complaint owes to the smaller coverage of the R2 as much as the tint of the lens. Nevertheless, I'm giving it a 4 since I would like to see a slightly darker tint, but this is the darkest Oakley gets.
TERRORISM -
Just plain black for all the afficionados of the neutral color schemes, yet offering the added benefit of polarization - Black Iridium Polarized are among Oakley's classic lens colors. As with its non-polarized counterpart, this lens offers excellent protection from the brightest conditions. On the other hand, it seems that the standard Black Iridium actually is slightly better for brighter environments.
Raybees -
Having the gold polarized and the black iridium polarized as well I can say that these lenses are absolutely fantastic for driving in bright light conditions. Great contrast considering the light blocking percentage with a very comfortable reduction of glare. As for the rainbow effect on windscreens, thats normal for polarized glasses.
jrbusser -
Gran inversion EXCELENTES!!!!
jackhammer -
I like the lenses, yes they are dark but in summer they are perfect. I also like the polarisation. Perfect sunglasses and not shiny like Fire or Ice.
Rick -
I wore these for the first time a few weeks ago and I got these crazy streaks of light cascading in from the sides. It really caused me irritation. I couldn't understand it. I've never experienced this before. I thought Polarized lenses were supposed to be unsurpassed in the protection, but I ended up having to take them off. Plus, the whole iPod screen, and windshields gets annoying real fast. Maybe if I went out on the water I'd feel differently, but I just don't get it.
Pander -
Before I owned these, I really wanted a pair of polarized lenses. Just to see the difference between polarized and non-polarized lenses. I have to admit, on water the glare reduction is great, but in everyday life... Every display, from an iPod, thermostat, or what not, will turn into a rainbow. Every car that has a heat resistent windshield looks like there is oil on it.
Conclusion: great for on water (or maybe on the slopes), but not that great in everyday living...
frankie4fingers -
Nice coating and very resistant against scratches and good for all dresses. Have it in Matte Black GC and it's great to wear them in bright light, you will have no problems. Only two things I dislike, 1.If you drive into the light of the sun, your environment gets grey, bad contrast and sometimes dangerous.
2.The polarization could be better, or it's me. If you look at bouldering it could be possible that it looks like wet, because of reflection, very confusing.
contrabandit -
For some reason i prefer the normal black iridium! The purple tone of the nonpolarized version is not as pronounced in the polorized version. Still a good shade though and a good glareblocker, but if i am not anywhere near water i grab a pair of regular black iridiums and leave the polarized ones for that special ocasion, where glare is a big problem.
UBERCHUCK -
Lots of people complain about B.I. being too dark. Mention where you are using these! You are misleading people if you complain/praise the light transmition but fail to tell people the conditions you are using them in. If you live in a place that doesn't have bright conditions they probably won't be the best choice. For brighter light conditions (this is most of the time since I live in New Mexico) the Black Iridium are a great option. Subtle is good.
banarno -
What can you say about Black Iridium Polarized, exept it’s the original and most durable lens tint.
I wear mine all day long, driving, working etc etc.
And the polarization cuts down on glare if you are near water.
jumpman73 -
I'm not a huge fan of these lenses. I guess they'll become more useful since I'm at the beach now. I got these because I was able to get a pair of Jet black half jackets with them for very cheap on a special promotion. After wearing them for awhile and being entertained by the spots in tinted rear view windows I swapped them for some gold iridiums.
dmc -
Certainly of all of the lenses I own, black iridium polarized is the only one that cuts right down on the light with a relatively neutral base tint, and -- most importantly -- does so without any noticeable ghosting in various lighting conditions.

It would be my all-time favorite lens if the looks just weren't so boring.
Dann -
This was in my Thump. Not sure why the Thump needed Polarization since you couldn't safely get near water, but maybe it was to justify the price increase for a little more memory. The only thing I notice is dots in some windows and I can't see my phone screen at certain angles.
PiaaBro -
This is my first polarized lens (pair of Bottlecaps) from Oakley so I'm still trying to get used to the rainbow like effect that bounces off windshieds & tinted glass. Gotta give props to the glare reduction..it has made FL driving much more pleasant!
LEX7 -
I just got these on a pair of twentys, and i dont get it, the polarization gives everything a greeny greyish tint, unlike normal BI but more like Grey polarized.
less boring than BI but still boring.
american image -
these are in the 256mb Thump night camo, and if there is ever the possibility to switch lenses for the Thump , i will , these are only good near water, but you shouldn't were electronics near water....
njphil -
Has all the good color of the Black Iridium lenses but is polarized, i have them in my Hatchet's
sparra -
These are great lenses - as are all Oakley polarised lenses, though the colour isn't particularly funky, it still looks cool in the right frames. They work really well, especially when driving on wet roads and sunny days when you get loads of glare - cuts it right out. Brilliant.
Wassaaaaaaaaaap -
What more can you ask for? Simple and stylish. Very basic and hella effective. Good choice for anyone. Matches everyone. This is a staple in an Oakley collector/fan's stable.
BrianJ1888 -
Tried this on my Dad's StraightJacket, and liked them. While they aren't as pretty as my Ice Polarized lenses, you can't tell that when they're on your face. They look exactly the same while you're wearing them. Super sharp, and excellent at cutting glare. They lose a point for being a bit plain though.
Ed -
For some reason, these don't seem to make everything quite as dark as standard Black Iridium. The polarization does cut out quite a bit of glare, but it's still a dull grey base tint.
oogie -
Polarized often being a highly sought-after commodity, the black iridium polarized is a staple of Oakley Pol. lens options. A great basic lens for those that want quality polarized lenses without the excess flash.
ford -
I have the Black Iridium Polarized Fat Cats, and the lens is great.
You cant tell much difference looking through Black Polarized until you look at window tints, computer LCD monitors, or my favourite, and what they are designed for - the ocean.
On a sunny day, its cuts glare off the water and is friendlier to your eyes.
I would recommend these lenses to anyone who wants to wear their Oakleys to the beach.
Jonathan Tung -
Actually, all I've got is the lenses right now. I stopped by my local eyeglass store and bought them off them for 15 dollars. They had them because a lot of customers who install a prescription into their Oakley's don't care for the original lenses so I picked these up cheap. Hoping I can find some random A-Wire frame to stick them in.

From what I've been able to tell, these lenses are a little greener than the original non-polarized Black Iridium but the polarization makes everything look crisp and stunning. All the different colors are separate and distinct. A very desirable lens if not a little plain for some folks to look at from an observers' point of view.
Jay -
I live in the half jacket 2.0 polarized. In black iridium. My eyes are very light in color. I do not squint with these on. It stops the head aches in the bright sun. Worth every damn dime. Use the soft clothe they give you and there cleaner solution, very little investment compared to your eyesight. DON'T GET CHEAP WITH YOUR EYES. Invest in your self.
Faz -
Really couldn't get on with the shimmering effect reflected off any remotely shiny surfaces (iron street drain covers, cars, cobbled streets and more). Yep they do cut down glare but the reflection of your own face/eye ball on the inside of lens is also annoying. Sold.
