In the midst of Oakley losing it's "mojo" because of LUX, sponsoring d/bag hip hop artists, things made in china......etc,

does anyone feel that the newly released x-squared takes us back to 1999-2000 when none of that crap existed? A time when juliet & romeo ruled the world, and High School students everywhere were wearing TwentyXXs & straight jackets!.

oh the good times.....

Yes, they did an amazing job with XS. It's reminiscent of the older X-metals yet forward enough to be an advancement on them. After a dud like the Half-X, this is an excellent progression of the line. Good job by Oakley.

I agree and disagree. It doesn't fit most faces unlike the Juliet did. I had a number of people come into my store wanting to buy it and out of the 6 that came in it only fit one guy. All of which wear Juliets on a regular basis. The only way it really fits me well is if I take the nosebombs off. Most people aren't willing for that.

On the design side I really like it. It is aggressive and it's clean at the same time. The lack of rivets on the front gives it a refined look while the way the lenses jut out at the temples makes it kinda mean looking. I guess time will tell how they do.

I totally agree guys. I absolutely love this frame - it is a true X-Metal and I can't tell you how thrilled I am. I couldn't imagine a better match to R1, Juliet, Penny and XX.

We sort of have a 'locked' expectation with x-metals now. I personally think that they are spot on with the x-squared. Its squared off, but has wrap. Its got that organic, flex coupler movement of true x-metal frames. Its got orbital spoilers. The ear stems are freshened, and aren't copied from Romeo or Juliet. It comes with the $30 case, which means at $340-$350, its still at near identical pricing of Juliet without an exorbitant premium for being something new. Its a great x-metal frame.

I think it would be a challenge, but they should really try doing a wild design that normally would be easy to mold in o-matter. Can you imagine an all-x-metal Pit Boss?

If you haven't noticed yet, there are only two Juliet with standard lenses and four with polarized lenses plus the Ducati. Hope this doesn't mean Juliet is going strictly custom...

juliets and other x-metals pinch the back of my head. are the x-squared bigger than juliets? if so, and i hope, i may be a candidate for the x-squared.

Given the reaction I imagined with the next X-Metal that dared to get close to the Juliet, I think it did a lot better than predicted.

I just wish any of my OPDs here carried the damn thing. I have only seen the X Squared online, and I'm kind of torn. On one hand, it seems like a mere rehash of the Square Wire, just in X-Metal form. But on the other, it looks much better than the Half X and does kind of bring back a more agressive style to the X-Metal line. Plus it has some nice colors - especially that Polished Carbon.

I'm anxious to get my hands on a pair to actually see what the fit and feel is like.

While I'm not familiar with this site the price caught my eye.

X-metals are to heavy for me, but perhaps this helps on the price.

Just a note to all those considering the X-metal/Ruby combo, the Ruby lenses have as much batch variation as the Juliets. I saw two sealed Rubies opened up and they're very Fire-like. In fact, I thought Oakley just mistakenly put Fire polarized into the frame, but that wasn't the case. I saw another on display, and it was very purplish and almost +Red. Keep that in mind when you're looking to buy online.

As well, for me, the XS is one of the very few frames that look better in person than in pics.

Last thing, the earstems are seemingly shorter than on the rest of the X-metals. I didn't take the time to compare, but it seemed that way. Other than that, they're a work of art. they're thinner than previous X-metal frames and more sculpted. Very nice stuff.

Good info Oak...

My Ruby XS does have some yellow in the outside of the lens but still more Ruby than the Half X which was totally fire. Not a lot of purple in the one I got but still satisfied with it as a Ruby.

Yuk - It will be big on your face but it's such a sick frame/design - I think you'll love it. Great to hear from yoo's guys again!

Hey guys. I have been absent for awhile....saving to buy wife a car.....anyways....can anyone tell me if these are roughly the same size as the new squarewire's?
The new squarewire's fit me well and I hope they are not wider than them.

yea good update, those pictures are pretty deceiving some times because when people take pictures of the lenses they angle them just right to make them look as red as possible but in actuality they are almost yellow/fire tinted.

they fit a bit tighter than a Juliet on my head. That is even with the T15 in them, but that is all mine came with. Too snug for my taste, but very nice. The arms are wicked cool looking. I should have detailed pics up tomorrow with close ups.

Glad to be coming around again, Nik. It's been hell trying to find time.

I'd like to echo Woody's question - are the XS about the same size as the SW?

If you mean the fit, The are tight like when you get a brand new Juliet. If you mean is the lens the same size, no the lenses are bigger. I would say the lens is closer in size to the XX X-Metal

Shame. So many of the new releases are just so LARGE. Oakley did very well with the Juliet, obviously. Why would they make the lenses of X Squared so big that most consumers wouldn't be interested?

it's not that large. It's about the size of a gascan lens....maybe. Actually a little taller (2-3mm). Almost identical.

they fit fine. Just need to let mine loosen up a bit, but they should fit almost everyone. I see kids wearing gascans, so no reason what so ever these won't fit virtually everyone.

just picked up my first pair...x-metal/ruby

the frames are a piece of art, as to be expected.
much lighter than I anticipated. The polished pair I held at the store felt even lighter...if thats even possible.

at most angles and in the light i'm looking at them now(halogen torchier), the ruby is pretty dark. not as dark as I'd hoped, but still beautiful. much deeper than the fire polarized i looked at. there are still a lot of yellow and orange hues, so I'm going to wait until I get them outside on a sunny day before I pass final judgement.

they're definitely tight to my face, but not as tight as a new pair of juliets, as the earpieces aren't quite as long.

overall, i'm psyched to have a pair, and I'm hoping to get the polished carbon frames when they finally arrive in-store!

from what I understand, the Ruby will be batch based like the Juliet where the color will be drastically different. Can't figure why they can kill it on most colors, but Ruby is the one with such trouble. One of those Oakley mysteries HAHA! They are a nice shade for sure.

Definitely a mystery, but at least they're offering the initial release at only a $10 premium rather than $100 like the used to early on in the Ruby Juliet's life..
