I just got them...
I am feeling them....
I am putting them on.....
I am looking at them....
and......
I am taking them off....
I am putting them in the box....
I am sending them back.....
I am spending my money ($644.00) on something better....

Not impressed at all. Should not even be in the same category as X metal (my feeling).

I will wait until Oakley thinks up something more on the cutting edge. Meanwhile, I just saved $600+ BUCKS!!!!

well here in the UK every shop that sells Oakleys I've been to recently offered me this response when I asked when they'd get the Half X, without any exceptions the response I've had from each shop is "what? a new x-metal?", the worst part is we're going to get smashed with tax over here so lord knows how much the store line will be with regards to cost...personally I quite like it...ideally I made this up for the signature models thread, I know there's a carbon frame in the pipeline but we really need +red for the overall effect...

now I feel THAT!! :-)

Well with all the +Red additions we've seen lately, I guess it's allowed to dream a lil'...+Red would look pretty good in a Carbon frame for sure...

...then again in what frame does +Red look bad anyway?

Not gonna lie: I like it better than Ruby. Sorry to all the Ruby lovers! I dig the lens too but +Red is just killing it right now.

Flak, Half, M-Frame, Radar...

Half-X would have been a "must have" if they were not the new challenger in the X-Metal line. It's hard to come after the X-Metal predecessor's. Juliet's have been released nearly ten years ago and they are still as good as at the beginning.
It's a very hard position for the Half-X to be compared.

So I really think that if Half-X had been then new O-luminium project evertbody here would have said "Wow ! Awesome". But it's X-metal so it had to bee "over the top" and unluckily they are just good IMO.

I'll never buy it for retail price. But as I like the design more and more, I'll wait a good deal to buy them.

i like the HALF-X, but i dont LOVE them.

just like everyone here said, they dont scream out X-METAL!!!

i will probably snatch up a pair or two in the future when the price is right and if they come up with a SPECIAL EDITION HALF-X or if they come up with a CUSTOM option in which i could order an X-Metal frame with ruby, positive red, ice, or emerald lenses.

also i would CUSTOM one with an X-Metal frame, Black Iridium lenses, Red O icons, and Red Earsocks!!!! now that's PIMPIN!!!!!

Excellent comment francois. I agree, the x-metal moniker brings a lot of expectation with it and I reckon anyone would be likely to appreciate it more as an o-luminum frame.

As for the +red photoshop job, "is niiiiiiiiiiiiice, I liiiiiiiiiiiiike"

Flex couplers as a concept will be sorely missed but I have had 3 juliets which have had flex coupler issues. Too slack, too tight, it makes things pretty hard.

you make a very good point O.T.T... perhaps the inconsistencies with the flex couplers were a factor in its disappearance on the half-x. I just got my Juliet back from warranty in Canada and one side is totally loose while the other is tight. Now the glasses don't sit well on my face. Things like this should not happen on $400+ sunglasses.

removing them altogether on the half-x is a smart move for Oakley, but for Oakley fans who have grown to love the style and function (when its working well) of the flex couplers, its a major loss.

Yeah... I'm feelin' 'em. Nice shades, really - great fit, comfortable, great coverage... But I still miss the flex couplers. And warm grey is still a joke for top-of-the-line eyewear. That would be tantamount to someone buying a 10-bedroom mansion in Beverly Hills, only to be able to afford a Geo Metro parked out front: a complete mismatch.

I'm not all that impressed by the pics, but in order to truly judge them I'd have to see them in person. Not to mention adding some other lens options might help me like them a bit more.

Got down to the O-store yesterday, my wife got a pair of Pendant 4.0 perscriptions and I gotta a heart full of hurt.
First heartache, Felon looks absurd on my face.
Second heartache, so does Inmate.
Third Heartache, Half-X is a major disappointment. No style whatsoever, just looks like a half-wire that went off it's diet. Earstems are alright looking, nice that they're spring-hinge. Other than that they are nothing but a let down. I thought I was feeling em, but now I think they are completely out of place in oakley's X-Metal line up. Side by side with Romeo, they look like a cheap chinese knock-off.

I agree with the statement about Felon. They are way too flat, and they just looked silly when I tried them on. SGH didn't have Inmate. I also tried on Tangent, and felt that they were too feminine of a frame to be considered unisex. Kinda plain and boring looking too. Eh. This was about 2 weeks ago. I was there yesterday (as I always pop in when I go to the mall to see whats new), and all the new styles were gone. Apparently, the new ones are selling. Solstice strictly has fashion-toned colors, so I don't really check there too often.

I'm starting to come around for Half-X though, although I've yet to see them in person.

I don't know, I thought they looked ok, just lacked that special X-metal flare. I liked the earstems a lot, but the front just looks boring boring BORING!

You know, I have to admit that I have been a bit harsh on warm grey. Just received the X-Metal/Warm Grey Half X today, and was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and great looking the lenses actually were. I do, however, still prefer the iridium option, but warm grey was far better than originally anticipated.

YES. Half-X. I AM feelin' em. I tried them on this weekend at the O-Store. Its like a leap beyond Flak Jacket, which I already like and wear more often than anything else.

Whether we like it or not, flex couplers are back on the shelf, for now. Accept it. The spring hinge that replaces the flex coupler actually moves in both vertical directions as well as the standard 'outward' horizontal direction, almost like a swivel joint. Functionally, the flex coupler is in the spring hinge (just as 11 years ago, the spring hinge became integrated with the lense-frame and eventually designed out with the flex-coupler). Oakley figured that almost everyone stretches an x-metal frame open to get it over the head, some more than others. This led to the problems that many of us have (either floppiness or crookedness), especially if they are your only pair or your go-to pair. The new spring hinge encourages that the frame be stretched open so that when the tension is released to the head, the frame fits straight and snug the first time. The fit will be snug for everyone, no matter the headsize. Lets just hope that the springs will maintain original spring tension over time.

Eye coverage is very good (not excellent), but x-metal frames have always been that way. The lenses are about the same size as flak jacket xlj lenses, but without the xlj cut. Overall, I felt pretty good trying them on, and now know I have to get them. I'm due a belated birthday present from my wife, and I now know what I want.

X-metal is all about executing for function with completely outside-the-box thinking and solutions, which results in a rugged and industrialized piece of art. The flex coupler is not gone, only back on the shelf.

I just picked up a pair this week. carbon/ black iridium polarized. I have to say i am impressed. they are extremely comfortable and light. the lens coverage is excelent.
i felt the fist available options were boring but when i saw the carbons i had to pick up a pair. when you see a pair in person they dont have the half wire look as i thought they would. these wrap around your head while the half wire is very flat.
honestly i dont mind the non flex nose bridge. it would be useless with the spring hinges anyway.

Tried them on this weekend. They just don't feel "X-Metal" to me but you guys have left great reviews. Hopefully you do the same in the reviews section as well.

I guess I'm Old School as far as X-Metal goes but I will be getting the Iced Polarized Half X just to give them a fair chance. Great reviews guys. Helped me a lot.

I saw some the other day, they are not bad but remind me a lot of the romeo 2's but with a more square lens

they need to make xmetal zeros!
