Thanks gents... also, reminder, black baggers are of course taking place this year as usual. Already have the page setup on the site and will be having some crazy stuff this season. New finish that will be like getting 2 for 1...don't miss out.

Will be sport, lifestyle, vintage/"pre-lux", and metals.. may even be a timepiece in the mix.. still unsure on that one.

Just a lil HQ Dome theme for a radarlock...Went with more weather/corrosion to the look than a typical silver-esque appearance. Played with this one a few times until I simply liked it.

So, I'be been wanting to paint a few pairs for a while. Never tried. I'm a bit scared and unsure of the proper way to do this.
I know we have a few customizer here.

So, first question : Primer, or no primer ?
Then :
- which paint brand. I know I can find some Molotow or Montana around here. Not sure about any other brands
- Finish Coating or not ? Glossy or matte ?
- water based or other option ?
- what should I prepare in case I mess up ? Solvant to remove my crappy paint job ? anything else ?

I'm going to try my luck on other tiny objects, maybe. But the spray cans are pretty expensive here, so I'd rather make sure I buy the proper stuff first.

Hiya

I recommend doing a course of some kind. I did a few days training with the top UK custom painter - Dave Bristow. Cost a few quid but helped me through the mind field of pitfalls etc.

It’s a science to be honest - so much tech regarding paints etc that it’s worth training first.

You can get the info you need on YouTube etc but it takes months to process it all.

Ps - a lot of Oakley OEM finishes are poached from the fifties & sixties fisherman!

Thank you for your feedback :)
Well, I won't look into trainings as I really have no intention in doing a lot of stuff. There are just a couple pairs I'd like to do.
I'll probably go in a street painting spray cans store and ask a few tips on that kind of stuff. And I'll test on a few random objects before going crazy on my Oakleys ^_^

I’ve learnt that finishes like Planet X or Ultrablend were first used on fishing lures aka Crankbaits. As long ago as sixty years or more.

Spray cans are actually really good these days. You could use the U-Pol lacquers. Upol Clear #1 is great stuff. They have online instruction pdf’s that tell you everything you need to know. Fiollowing instructions to the finest details is key!

If you want to invest a few bucks, cerakote is not hard to learn, and really nice to use.

Still recommend a trading course.

Stand on the shoulders of giants. For a couple of hundred quid you can upload all thier tricks into your skills set. Priceless really.

Also - if you want, my stuff will blow you away by the great value. I’m half the price of others. :)
