Somebody gave me a New Eye Jacket (1999) in Electric Mustard with some scraped up lenses. Does anyone know if any of the other eye jacket lenses fit into it?

It is difficult to search for New Eye Jacket lenses..... - Type O Positive

Any EJ or NEJ with an FMJ coating will have slightly smaller lenses. The regular ones will fit but you're likely to chip the coating when putting them in. Then there's taking the old ones out, that's where you're most likely to chip it. I avoid FMJ pairs that need lenses, once it chips that's a wrap, and I absolutely refuse to mess with FMJ frames when I'm cutting lenses for people.

I have a couple of questions and remarks on lens properties:
A) What's the source of the database information?
B) Are you sure 24K Gold Iridium [ http://o-review.com/database_detail_lens.php?ID=1076 ] got an orange (persimmon?) base lens? Looking through it (not at it), I cannot tell the difference to Gold Iridium lenses, which makes me think 24K has a the Bronze base like Gold and Tungsten.
C) Just a remark: I've noticed even the information given out by Oakley on lens properties is inconsistent. I.E. you'd find different light transmission rates and statements about which base lens is under the coating at various lens display stands in Oakley stores and on those black warranty leaflets.

I can probably help with some of this ...

A) Database info is sourced by member input, using published info from Oakley (like the fliers, catalogs, and leaflets) or the box label or tag that comes with the product. Occasionally input errors are made, and they are corrected when encountered (they can be edited afterward). Usually a memeber with any doubt about product info asks for help in a thread or PM before adding the info. The resulting consensus is then generally what makes it into the database. So if you see a database error, the best thing to do is make light of it, so it can either be confirmed or changed.

B) That 24K lens entry you found is one of a few lens entries that probably still needs to be adjusted. Several database entries have small things about them that still need fixing. But you are correct, that particular lens uses the Bronze lens base, just like the Gold, Tungsten, and Titanium lenses.

C) Inconsistent Oakley info is an old story around here. It's something we are generally used to and just have to roll with it, or risk getting hung up on the inconsequential. This goes double with the VLT numbers for their lenses. There are a few lens bases and Iridiums that tend to be pretty consistent, but many have published VLTs with such variation to them that you really aren't able to get a consistent set of numbers that always plug into each variation of that lens or coating.

I personally gig Oakley for this, basically taking the time to invent their own in-house systems, methods, and/or terminology for their products, only to then turn around and disregard them whenever it is seemingly convenient or expedient.

Ultimately tho, they are just a company and companies tend to make mistakes. It doesn't detract from the overall product or experience - in fact, I think it adds a little bit more fun to the hobby by finding and trying to solve these little inconsistencies.

Thank Steve, that's pretty spot on. We do our best to find the 'most correct' information, but we don't ever have a direct line into the source.

As for the lenses, they're all over the place, and I still need to fix up those display pages so I can edit the entries again.

Let me know if I can help editing. It might be a good idea to add the source of information (if the database permits), so you know what to look at in case of seeming contradictions.

Some o matter pairs are having uneven arms so a pair does not sit symmetrically when placed on a table or any flat surface. It does not fit well when worn which more important.

Is there a way to correct this for o matter frames?

Unless you are willing to attempt the “Oakley Warranty Dance”, the next best method involves warming the piece with the wife’s hair dryer, and gently bending the plastic.

I am located in Kuwait. I will try to check out the optical shops here if they have the capability.

Thanks for the input!

Can anyone ID this pair? It looks like a WHY but the lens shape and color combo do not match any in the database...

Thanks!

Well first off it’s definitely a Why 3, and definitely a variant of blue iridium; Barok what does the base color look like? Mind you the database was hacked in ‘15 so it may not have all of the original colorways. From what I’m looking at it looks like they’re ice lenses on a titanium colorway frame.

Thanks for the quick reply. The hack could be the reason for the absence of any matching colorway. The lenses look ice iridium based on the first and second picture above. I still do not have it though.

Ahhhh, gotcha. I want to say a lens 3, but most likely lens 4 archetype. Plus I’ve seen a carbon Why 3 lens 4 clear that was completely oem.

The server was compromised, but the database wasn't on that server. Nothing was lost in the catalog.

Anyone know of what made Code blue ... well, Code Blue? Asking specifically about the Code Blue Minute vs. the Dark Blue Minute. I noticed that Code Blue tends to get thrown around a lot as a frame color probably cuz it kinda sounds cool, but not everything was Code Blue, right? Was the difference just a generational thing like Jet Black vs Polished Black, or was there an actual difference in the texture and/or shade?

I thought we would have had the weight of the splice documented somewhere... either here or here or in the database, but I don't see it anywhere.

Anyone have any other weight threads?

There is a mass field in the DB, but it's currently set to 0. I forget if we had set that one.
