Any of you Pit Boss owners pop off those Titanium (or whatever metal) plates that are on the frames and the earstems?

They just push out from the back (after removing the screw, of couse)?

TIA,

Do they? I wouldn't be willing to give it a try as you may widen the hole and it may not snap back in right/tight.

Perfection just doesn't need to be messed with!

But handy to know!

Let me rephrase that....

DO they just push out from the back (after you remove the screw, of course)?

It's a question... not a statement. Dont' want people hootin' and hollerin' about me stating taht they push out. I'm trying to find out if they do.

"Perfection" can always be improved on. That's whats fun about taking something and "making it your own".

I know it's a question thats why i said "handy to Know"

As far as perfection.... thats just opinion.

Knowing that they do come of easier than what may appear is helpful.

I think the 'hexalobular' are some form of clean looking rivets, and therefore are not removable. Don't remove the titanium plates.

I haven't even tinkered with removing the orbital screw or even removing the lenses out of fear of scratching the true automotive finish on the frame.

Nobody that we know of has been able to remove the plates just yet. As Oxide noted in his PB review, removing the screw doesn't do anything because it's actually the Hexalobular bolts that hold the plates in place:

The T5 screw...on the lower side of the orbital is really more for looks than to hold the Titanium plate against the Omatter body. I actually removed the T5 screw to see if it throws the plate out of alignment but the rivet pins are holding the plate securely therefore the T5 is is really unnecessary....
Perhaps someday (like with the bolts on X-metal's flex couplers) some customizer will figure out how to separate the titanium portion from the O Matter without causing damage.

Are they really bolts or just nubs on the rear of the plates that snap into the frame?

I read the screw reduces stress on the frame and distortion on the lens. Otherwise it just looks cool.

Hard to say whether they're bolts or nubs (Oakley calls it bolts, though, but that may just be their typical marketing). I'm sure we'll find out one day. When prices on PBs drop even more, someone'll have the balls to experiment with it.

I've always wondered how polished plates would look on the Pit Boss...

Wish granted:

man, I wish I could figure out my lighting issues when I take pics. These are shinier than the pics would show. Not like Chrome level shiny, but shiny nonetheless.

The coating on the plates is very similar to the coating on the x-metal/grey face timebomb.

Had to switch them back to the BI lenses. They didn't quite look right with the Ruby lenses that the good Doctor chopped for me.

Would love to see a comparison of polished Ti with polished black versus polished Ti with matte black (as Dave the Brave has it now).

So did you actually remove the plates, or polish them in place?

Thanks for the compliments, gents.

I ended up polishing them in place. I started to try to force and ear stem off, and that wouldn't come out. As I was pushing on the arm, i noticed the plates did come away just a little form the frame. So I ended up masking the entire frame. I'll throw up a thread in the "projects" section. with pics.

I asked my O-dealer a long time ago the same question, because I wanted to do some custom combinations from all the three frame colorways. I was told, that the metal parts are glued to the O-Matter stems. So I wouldn't give a try to remove them...

Re: swapping lenses

Took the screws out to switch lenses

No problem/damage/issue with the frame.

just so you all know, you don't have to remove the screws to change the lenses...They are no different than any Gascan, Dog, etc...just pop out.
