Hmm, the whole 5000 Romeo thing seems a bit wierd to me. I was always under the impression that it was the first 10,000 Romeos that had the red earsocks (that being the only distinction between the limited edition set?).
Anyhow, my Romeo is 8906 and came with the red earsocks also.

Lee, did yours come with red earsocks?
also my romeos have got the X-metal on the Left lens, as do the ones in the pic.

In my experience, I've seen Romeos in the 6,000 and 9,000 range that had only black earsocks, so I don't know what's up with that. The red earsocks are the most visible indicator of the MJ LEs, but they aren't the end all be all. As I mentioned earlier, the best way is too look at the serial number. If you purchased yours used, it could be very well be an after market earsock. If you bought yours new, it could be Oakley just mixing and matching again.

I've been told that the X-men Ruby Juliet LE (or at least a run of the RJs at some point) shipped with a mixture of red and black earsocks as well, so I don't know how exactly Oakley decides which earsock goes where.

'Em not sure about the Ruby Juliet LE with red earsocks. I have a Ruby Juliet LE but didn't came with the red. But the Ruby Penny has the red earsocks for the LE.

Neither the Ruby Penny nor Ruby Juliet necessarily all came with either black earsocks or either red earsocks. I'm saying it could be a mix and match job by Oakley. Myself, I've never seen any red earsock RJ or RP before (whether LE or not, and I've seen quite a bit of LE RJ and RPs) other than aftermarket modifications, but I've been told some of them have come in that combination or, at the very least, the Ruby Juliet had a run with red earsocks.

ahh I thought that the package contained both red and black earsocks .. thanks for clarifying =)
I found one Ruby Penny with red earsocks with the serials in the 4xxx and thought that they were customized since it wasn't consistent with the ones in the movie..

With the Romeo, doesn't it say 'X METAL' on every model produced? On the Oakley website, the old picture of Romeo(not the very first one, and not the current one) showed X METAL engraved on the lens. Plus, mine is #096241 and it still has the engraving.

Yup there is still the X-metal engraving, but I saw one recently and it looked different. Mine had the wide, straight X-Metal engraving, the new ones had somewhat an italicized, slanting, thin version.

A while back, Sunglass Hut had the exclusive rights to the Emerald Juliet. I'd be very interested in knowing the Serial #s for that exclusivity period. If anyone knows the history of the Emerald Juliet, I'd love to hear it.

I had the first Emerald Juliet to hit my SGH when they were released. I mentioned above or in another thread, my serial was in the first 3-4 thousand, then I sold them not thinking about it. JE00XXXX. (4235, 3425) I wish I had wrote it down.

We've talked about the high end of the serial # spectrum, how about the low end? Does anyone have a really low serial # X-metal???
The closest I come is my Leather Mars, at 661. My Romeo is decent, and I think my 24k XX was reasonably low (I can't recall the #) until I sent it back to Oakley for crud problems and they replaced the frame, which game me a new, much higher #.

My Romeo is 3646 which I bought in 1997 and never worn.
I always liked the idea of serials on the romeos Engraved above the nosebombs, instead of laser printed on the earpiece.

Lowest I've seen of any X-metal is pair #126 of the Ruby Juliet.

My Romeos which I got from eBay recently are 002793 so they must be fairly old.

#326 is very very low, i feel like a loser now cos mine are #8254
although cos mine are craters does that mean they are a different series.
we must findout which styles are which set of numbers.
say 0-500 are the leather and 501-1000 are ruby and so on.
might be a job for scooby.

My brother's mars are about that high, so I don't think they all share numbers, they each have their own series I imagine.

For those of you wanting more info on the development of the Ruby Juliets from a "no go" model to the intial run of X-men limited editions, this site would be for you (plus it has good pics of the Ruby Juliet--before it went into production--next to Cyclops' visor): http://www.corona.bc.ca/~corona/films/details/xmenI.html

Wow. Thats awesome. Good find. Great pics of the visor!

Can't beleive that stuff is almost 5 years old now....

And to think it was X-Men that cemented my Juliet obsession. I was a Romeo man up to that point, but X-Men made me appreciate the perfection that is Juliet....feminine name and all.

That was a pretty good find. Does anyone know any more about the 3d rendering of the visor discussed in that article. It had a link but it just goes to o.com. Anyone have a copy of it???
