When I first saw them on pics I thought that the new Icons on the Oil Rig and Oil Drum look pretty nice.

Well, I received a gen. 2 black/silver text OR a few days ago and that chrome icon ruins the whole pair of shades! I was wondering what you think about these icons?

Just impressions:

- maybe it looks cool if it isn't chrome - like on the white/black text pair?
- what do you think about the curvature on the stems that comes with the new icon? I have a Thump 2 without the headphones (got wet) wich it reminded me of...

They don't seem to be very popular around these parts, but I like the new icon. It's very different and I love the novelty of it. Oakley has been putting a lot of big icons on some of their new releases, which makes sense since they've been sponsoring a lot of stars lately and want their logo to be visible in all forms of media. But to me, large icons just look tacky. The new icons, even though it's still very large, is a littel more nondescript (as much as it can be, anyway) than its predecessor.

As for the Silver Text pair specifically, yes, I think chrome icons would ruin it (but I thought it came with matte black icons?). Something darker would work better, IMO.

I personally like the castle icons, I think they make the rigs in particular much nicer, better front profile. The icons look much better in something besides chrome (the dark icons on several pairs looks really good)

I actually don't mind them - I like the fact that it's something a bit different.

Hanging out with Mike for a few days had me about convinced that the castle icons are now OK. Actually, I heard a lot of good things about the castle icons last week. I still think a couple nice accents (like pulling some of the details from the thumbprint icon) could enhance it greatly ... but it's cool.

So long as they don't start putting the Castle Icons on small pairs, I think they look fine. On the Rig, for example, it actually seems to fit. Put it on the Gascan, and it'll just look ridiculous.

I'll tell you the only thing that gets me is that I can no longer get a red icon with my Ruby lenses.

I dont really like them, but yes its too bad the new ones have 3 choices and thats it, you cant have blue, red, gold etc...

The new icons are okay at first, but once you get them they tend to fall off extremely easy. At work, when showing them to customers, they will fall off right in my hands. I think they should have kept the older icons even if they do look cool!

OOOohhh...I kind of like the fact that they'll come out. I could paint them, then!

i love the oil rig and personally was really dissapointed when they changed the icons...i hated them at first, after seeing them a couple of times though i dont hate them anymore. i still like the old ones more though. I do like how th frame bows out around the icons as somebody mentioned before though
