Just recently a pair of Copper Juliet, similar in finish to the copper penny and very much similar to the Copper Romeo 1 that surfaced in eBay about a year back, was auctioned in eBay.The auction however was ended after few days. I communicated with the seller and i was told the pair was sold outside ebay. So, who among you guys got hold of it? I envy you already.

I hope for the buyer taht this is a authentic oakley copper coating, because the seller buyer must have been proposed a lot of money to take the auction out of Ebay.

Not me Fred. Too many unanswered questions for me. It is very cool though. I wish the owner much happiness.

That looks gorgeous! Do you guys really think it could be a fake? How would you make such a coating?

It is so frustrating, Oakley has all these great possibilities but doesn't make it available to the public. I wish they would expand their OCP.

I hadn't spotted the auction so I'm kind of glad it was sold outside of eBay. I would have been kicking myself forever if I had missed it.

I saw this myself. He claims to have the only two pair in existence..which makes me think he had them coated on his own.

Yeah, it very well could be a plasma that was coated. Great...now I'm getting all these ideas for crazy customs!!!

Have a look at this project: http://www.o-review.com/portal_detail.asp?ID=7281

If you're willing to spend the $, you can get anything coated with your choice of colour.

However, I don't think the copper Juliet is a do-it-yourself custom.

The information I got was that it sold for $880. A high price given that the frame wasn't 100% perfect. Very nice collectible, though.

Very interesting guys, Thanks!
Now I'll doubt every frame I ever see. :-(
Is there any way to tell the real thing from those 'custom painted' ones?
BTW does anyone know: are real Oakleys 'spray' painted, 'baked' or is it some kind of an electrochemical proces?

The seller is also the one who bought the Copper Romeo 1 that appeared in eBay more than a year ago sold by T-O. Seller said that the finish is similar to Penny Copper. Just wondering if the seller is a member here.

I thought the dude who bought the Copper Romeo was English? Isn't the seller of the Copper Juliet from Montana or something?

Yeah, that's what I remembered too. The buyer wasn't an OR member, but he was friends with someone who was. I think that's how I learned that the Copper Romeo buyer was from England.

The best way is to know the source and story behind the pair. I'm 100% confident of some customs out there, but this one had a few fuzzy details that didn't quite add up. I liken it to a car auction. There are some muscle cars that are going for big bucks, but if you want the really big dough you have to provide the documentation to prove it's original. That was what was lacking from this auction. With no concrete proof, doubt starts to creep in. If I'm going to part with that much cash I want to make sure I know what I'm getting. Had that been a Total_O auction I wouldn't have batted an eye.

He told me that he have purchased a Copper Romeo/Gold Iridium from T-O. If its true then he have one hell of a collection.

The Copper Romeo had Black Iridium installed, so theres another inconsistency right there.

I just didn't want to pay through the nose for a pair of glasses that everyone in the collecting community had doubts about, including me. Lee's right, the Copper Romeo that sold for $1k had BI.

I agree with Rick: had that auction been from T_O or HM there would be little or no doubt as to the authenticity. But I even e-mailed the seller, asking if the Copper Juliets were "100% made by Oakley, including the copper finish". Needless to say, I did not receive a definitive confirmation as a response...
