I know most of you in here are doing alot of custom cutting fitting....etc..

I know you guys for the most part are using Dremel tools.
Is there anyone in here that is willing to give me a small lesson on how to do it. I got the lenses, the tools...just need the know how.

Please HELP!!!

Thanks
Jay

I put one lens over the other and trace the outline with a sharpie. Then I use the thin sanding disc for my cutter. Set the dremel to a low speed to start and increase if you feel comfortable. Try to cut a little inside the line since it will naturally be a little bigger. Once the general shape is out, try fitting it, and then start trimming the edges that are too far out.

You use the discs Dann? I use the cylinder sanders and actually tape one lens to the other with painters tape. To each his own I guess.

What lenses would you cut to make replacement lenses for
1)Juliet
2)XX (X-Metal)

Thanks

I think you can squeeze a Juliet out of a HJ lens. Just barely. XX will need a large lens like an M Frame.

Can you, say, take a Doggle lens and cut it so it fits a Juliet while still retaining the XYZ?

Depends on the wrap I guess. But a slight bend will probably hold once you clamp the orbital around it. If a toric lens can fit, it'd probably work.

I mostly follow Dann's tips above, but I generally use the barrel sander to shape the lens. Also, I use a basic plastic hand clamp (cushioned a bit so as to not scratch the lens) to hold the lenses together as I'm tracing and then hold the single lens for cutting - I just find it makes it a lot easier to manuever and make more accurate shaping.

I tried that method and I accidentally ended up scuffing the lens a bit when I slipped. The edges came out a bit funny too, but whatever works in the end.

What lenses could I cut to make replacement lenses for Racing Jackets?
Is the only one the M-frame lens?
The RJ and the M frame lenses thickness is the same?

Same thickness, but it's that pesky curve.

it's possible to cut off MD lenses, RJ is a bit taller, so you get no trouble.

Here is my latest attempt at having fun with the dremel. The Fatcat was a bugger to work with - I wish I could say the work was "perfect". But it will definitely do. I'll just have to accept a bit of flak when I try and show it off at OPDs.

Fatcat with 24k (cut from XX x-metal lens):

What was the most difficult part of cutting the lenses for the fat cat?

Oh...my...GAWD! That's sweet! A 24k Fatcat would be so very slick. I wonder how those lenses would look in the Cream frame...

I almost killed my thumbs just trying to get a stock lens into that. I can't imagine being precise enough to cut one and make the edges line up. Wow.

Yeah, the tough part is working between trying to fit the lens in the frame and dealing with the larger base curve of the XXmetal lens vs. the FC lens. My other dremel jobs ran much smoother just because the base curves were the same, so the tracing, cutting and fitting just ran much smoother.

It's one of those things that look perfectly fine until you get your hands on it and give it the real O-fanatic inspection. You'd find a bit where I thought I needed to shave a bit more on top of one lens to fit it in - where I probably just needed more thump strength. But overall, I think I'm very happy with it - I can't afford regrets, there's no way to add plutonite back onto the lens. :)

The FC lenses do seem awefully tough to work with, too! As Dann mentioned, my thumbs are killing me today. I also tried this morning to switch the black polarized lenses into my blue camo FC - and have only been able to get one of the lenses fully into the frame before my thumbs gave out on me for the day.

I always try to shield my fingers with a microbag, but after 10 minutes I give up and just use my fingers and worry about smudges later.

What about about fours and four Ss? what would be a good suggestion for lenses to be cut down to fit them. i'll most likely be getting a pair of lithium frames this weekend and im not fond of having a light grey lense.

Anything with a low wrap, so possibly some wire lenses or fatcat.

hey dann, would a X-hair or spike lense work?

Hard to say since the Four lens is so flat, it may not fit into the orbital.

Anyone know if a XX metal lens can be cut from a zero (0.4) lens and if it would fit in the orbital properly?
