Hi guys,

I've been finding it really tough to decide which to get because of the really high cost of X-metal Juliets. I like the looks of the Ducati edition of the Juliet (it is slightly cheaper too). But then there is the Carbon Black Polarized version which costs slightly more but have less interesting colours.

Can you help me out here? Should I settle for the Ducati, or the polarized version? Is there really a big difference in those two lenses?

Thanks ppl!

If you want polarized lenses, get the Polarized one. You can always add red Unobtainium later.

oh yeah.. it is just for normal use btw. Like drives and stuff. I'm not using em for sports and stuff.

I've read about some... problems... with the use of polarized lenses so I'd like to have some confirmation.

polarization helps immensely anytime you're near something reflective. for example: in a car, particularly one with a long flat hood (Vette Hip?). tons of sunlight bounces off that big mirror-like surface and goes along like static that your eye-brain mechanism has to filter out. this causes eyestrain.

if you have a polarized filter (Iridium doesn't polarize light, it just reflects some superficial light), that glare is eliminated, allowing your eye to relax more than it would otherwise.

any time you're around water or driving in sunny weather, polarized lenses will make a big difference.

There's no polarization with non-polarized lenses, iridium or not. However, the iridium does have the effect of muting glare slightly- just much less than a polarized lens would.

Get the polarized. I have the red earsocks and T shox, and you can have them if you want.

That'd b nice. How much? Or r u giving it away? =)

Oh yeah. the "problems" i read about was from this thread:

I've been wanting Juliets ever since the first X-men movie came out (I was only 14 then). I had a pair of Zeroes at 16 and after 4 years they finally broke...

I have only 1 pol. Oakley (Ti Crosshair with VR28 BI Pol.) and they are my first choice when it's really hot and sunny out there, just because pol. means much less stress for the eyes (reflections from water, watches, any metal things etc.). But I'll stay with only 1 pol Oakley (the only interesting addition maybe the Titanium pol Ti Crosshair) because in germany.... there aren't that much very sunny days 8).

Yeah, I was impressed that you did that as well. And welcome to the site by the way.

About your question though, get the polarized. If you like the look of the red from the ducati, it will cost you next to nothing to get the unob. pieces for it.

I own 2 pairs of polarized Oakleys(Fives 3.0, and Spike Polished Black/VR28 Black Iridium Polarized) and they both work really well. My eyes feel relaxed and this causes my forehead to not crinkle, which completely gets rid of headaches.

Also, when driving, you get absolutely no glare from other cars windows...as a matter of fact you can see right through their windshield like magic.

....which allows me to see more than my fair share of people picking their nose as they drive.

Oh, true about the box.

Eric, youre hillarious lately, keep it up.

And I forgot to say this earlier, if the water isnt really calm, then you can't really see to well into it when wearing polarized.

Well... actually I was very disappointed when I wore my Pol's the first time. The difference between pol/non-pol is not as visible as the oakley pictures make you think. It's just more comfortable. I when I wear a polarized Oakley I do not really notice the pol. effect when I wear them (beside the lcd-irritations), but when you change to non pol. glasses you'll realize the difference (you realize how often you squint because of reflections).

Ditto on getting the polarized version. Juliets are the best priced pol colorways and you can always pick up some unob.

This is the exact way my addiction for Juliets took off. Look at it this way, no matter which pair you end up chosing, you'll want the other one that much more. Therefore, your question is redundant. The real question should be "Which one do I get first?". And in that case I would say the Carbon Ducati while there is still so many for sale.

Polarized lens really makes a difference when driving during hot sunny days. It reduces a lot of reflections and glares that you will encounter on the road. The thing that annoys me are those "rainbows" you see when looking through tinted windows of my car.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I will have to settle for one Juliet because they are so costly. I'm sure this will be with me for a good 10 years of my life.

How much are the red unobs? I like the whole works of the Ducati btw, the red earsocks, the box and the bag. Looks really cool. But I think I will settle for the Polarized...because...

Everywhere I looked the polarized was more expensive than the Ducati. But I found a shop that sold the Carbon Polarized combo for $45 cheaper than the Ducati where other shops sell the Polarized Juliet for $35 more. So now I think I will go for the Polarized, regardless of whether I have the red unobs or not. =)

It will cost $287 to get the polarized one... good deal?

Sean,
You can get a better deal on ebay if you can wait on shipping.

Yes, but if they are off eBay he may have more trouble with any warranty issues. Considering this is going to be your main pair, Sean, I would go with the Black Polarized, they will match everything and you can always buy the red unob later.

If u get a pair from eBay it'll only cost few bucks less and on top of that u have to pay shipping which will be expensive since it'll go to Malaysia and there are risks like lost/damage during transit and tax.. I'd say go for that Polarised! Nothing to worry about once your cash is out, it's already on your hands! =)

Sorry I mean it's already on your face! ;)

And Welcome to the site!! 'Enjoy' your stay here 'neighbour' (^-^)

Guys, before I make my purchase, is there anything I should look out for? Can u tell me wat defects to look out for (stripped screws? what are they?). Also I plan to change lenses in the future... etc.

I think I'm gonna forget about the red unobs... cause I may want to consider getting Ruby lenses for the Carbon Juliet. Tell me if I'm right, that there are two types of lenses, one is the Ruby Iridium and another is the Ruby QUARTZ?

I'm not so keen on the lens that have an orangy hue to it. So I'm guessing that the Ruby Quartz lens (PURE red?) is the one to look out for. Where can I get them? How much?

Being a total newbie, and a soon-to-be-juliet-owner, how do I change the lens? I won't do it so soon, but I'd like to know beforehand. Is it risky? Any precautions? etc.

Sorry for so many questions. Up till now you guys have been a tremendous help in answering my previous question concerning the polarized lenses.

Cheers =)
