Some may be cringing with this thread being brought back up, but I thought this latest description of the ruby lenses by Oakley is quite good:

"It features Ruby IRIDIUM®, one of the most advanced lens treatments in our entire product line. The coating is a combination of titanium dioxide and the crystalline compound of pure quartz, silicon dioxide. We apply it in eight separate layers to achieve unsurpassed scratch resistance and uniform optical clarity. Ruby IRIDIUM® reduces glare and balances light transmission to help you maintain color recognition, and it’s perfect for bright, sunny days."

Never thought anyone (even Oakley) would say Ruby has 'unsurpassed scratch resistance', though.

And it's funny how they managed to get the word 'quartz' in there, an (perhaps) accidental play on the fictional lens that Ruby Iridium was based off of.

That is quite a bold statement in many regards. I will now proceed to analyze it word by glorious word.

whoever writes their descriptions must be making a fortune by luring the innocent victims of o-review into purchasing their items:)

So, when are we going to see the ruby polarized juliets hit the market? And how long after that until just the lenses can be ordered?

Good question, but its hard to say now, maybe they will wait a long time before selling the lens seperately...

I still haven't seen them hit the market, but maybe they're out there in the US already?

Really looking forward to seeing some info on these.

that's a hard one. if it's factory, it's ruby. If it's not, it can either be a + red but would be flatter from an M Frame or Radar, but could very well be a Keystone or hack lens...

+ Red factory aren't colored like that. They are more Blue/Purple like + Red in the Flak Jacket lenses. are they blue or grey from behind? If it's another ebay lens, it is quite possible it's a ruby with a flash firing somewhere. You will get crazy deep red with a flash like that. A lot of the more recent Ruby replacement lenses have been like those too. What people would refer to as 1st gen ruby.

That's the reason why I'm in two minds at to what it is. Notice also the lack of any other noticeable colours.

usually that is a clear sign of a ruby lens. Trust me, I have cut enough + Red and seen my fair share of ruby. I also own a factory + Red and have seen a few...This is more Ruby "1st gen" as it is said to be, than a + Red unless it's a cut lens from an M Frame. Otherwise it's a knock off lens. Is this an ebay item again? PM me the link if it is so I can see better what is listed and I can tell you.

This is what I meant when I described my first pair of X-Metal Ruby Juliets: not a hint of orange or yellow!.........sigh...I remember them well....

stock ruby with a flash...nothing special at all. you can buy those at Oakley stores for $60. No such thing as 1st gen, so tell him to pound sand for $500...They are in the Philippines, all those area are notorious for scammers.

So it's not that delicious Ruby as it would appear, like mine were then?

Come to think of it, I did think something seemed strange with the last photo I've shown. The transparency just doesn't seem right, too much light....and the location of the seller rang bells!

OK, I think that after experimentation and many wasted dollars I have become more educated on lenses. I still need some help though. I was wondering if anyone knows about ebay seller madamoiselle_21 or has done business with him/her. Claims to be the ruby specialist. They sell a lot of ruby and claims to have an authentic gen 1 ruby lens in a brand new juliet. Can anyone authenticate or disporve that those are true Oakley lenses. Thanks

Aaron, I have dealt with madamoiselle_21, and have a set of what I believe(and am willing to go up against any test anyone out there can think of) are true 1st Gen Ruby lenses, with real deep purple. I'm particularly fussy when it comes to my Ruby lenses and won't accept most of the pseudo Fire c*ap that Oakley produces now. See below for my Juliets.

So, my experience was excellent, but I have seen some iffy stuff he/she's sold under the guise of 'through there artistic flair': all they've done is stick some lenses in a frame......yeah, right!

Everyone claims to be a ruby specialist. We all pretty much got over that in 2005 or so.

ive actually never seen a ruby lense in real life, but judging by the many pics ive seen on this website they look lovely.

ive seen and got plenty of + red but they all have various amounts of orange/purple/yellow in them-not pure ruby.
