They are good overall cars for everyday life.
French brands are completely absent on USA roads.
Maybe because we are more focused on compact cars and especially hatchback.
Anyone moving towards electric vehicles? I love the idea of EVs and may be moving to to them in about 5 years (or whenever they decide to beef up the number of super charging stations here). The acceleration due to instant torque, the ability to warm the car up inside a closed garage during winter, less moving parts means less high cost maintenance, and no need to pay for gas ever again are the big pros for me. The charging time and lack of infrastructure where I live are the cons. Other factors (like the possibility of missing out on the intoxicating noise of a growling engine) don’t really affect me as of this writing.
Those that have EVs, any thoughts on your experiences?
I would completely convert to 100% electric if it were possible in the US. I need something rugged, durable, and versatile; a complete replacement for what I have been driving. Unfortunately, US companies still do not take electric cars and (for the most part) hybrids too seriously. They are treated as novelties, cute toys, or fashion accessories rather than as a genuine replacement for gas and diesel powered vehicles.
But then again, I am already at odds with most car manufacturers and what they consider to be appropriate vehicle features anyway. I'm not much into 'luxury' or fancy interiors. I usually replace my radio systems or disable all the extra goofy wireless add-ons. I can't stand most dashboard layouts or switch placements. It's always been a fight to find a vehicle I can stand to drive, much less throw money into owning. Electric power would end up being one more fight on top of all the other fights I would have when buying a new vehicle. I swear, I buy cars exactly the same way I buy Oakley ... it's a lot of waiting and wading through the endless garbage until I finally see something I like, then I have to snatch it up right there and then or it's gone!
Absolutely love all the Tech packed into the Tesla Model S, as well as the aforementioned instant torque and speed, problem for me is cost. A $1k+ a month car payment is just not doable for me. That said I think it will be my next car, thing is my next car (barring an accident) is likely 5-10 years away..
I would totally go for an eV if I had the budget, no need for long range, an electric plug in the garage.
None of those requirements are met for now :/
The $35k model 3 reservations holder are taking deliveries now. They are actually getting a better car since it is the range plus version with software limitations. Kinda wish I waited before pulling the trigger in the long range version.
That said, I'm very happy with the model 3. The car just keeps getting better with every OTA update. Just recently, a software roll out boosted my max range from 310 to 325! Kinda disappointed they took away Pole Position from the Teslatari games.
The Tesla Model P probably won't look anything like the below pic, but Emre Husmen's concept for what a Telsa pickup truck could look like is pretty cool even if not at all functional for the real truck user:
