I don't consider any of my cuts "rare", just unique and sweet. They can be obtained by anyone who is brave enough to do it, or willing to fork out a trade or equivalent to get them...They really stand in a class all of their own because it is the opinion of each person, rather than a corporate move to produce something limited ans special like a DF or Ichiro...

Thanks for the positive comments guys. I usually don't post much pictures of my collection #1 because I don't really own a camera and #2 I like to be a little under the radar. However, I have had people Im'ing / emailing me asking if I'm for real about all the stuff and when i had my stuff up for sale they doubted that I had one for sale because I wouldn't "meet' their price expectations. There was a moderator who actually went and deleted my first ad because he didn't believe I had it in my possession. Those were just to show they are real.

Personally, I'd have thought that anyone who really respects being part of this community would recognize that because we're such easy targets for the rip-off and scam artists out there that being reluctant to back up certain claims could put one directly in the line of fire.
Having understanding toward an individual is one thing. But protecting the community as a whole - especially when it throws you in front of the bus - makes one very respectable in my book. If it came down to never getting a Brown Juliet and allowing crooks to run free, I'm happy to never lay hands on any "rare" pair.

Understood. But what i have a problem with is them enforcing rules on certain members/ads but letting others get away with it (i.e.: having your user name in the picture with the item.). That is what I took exception to. Especially when I saw almost no other ad that was on at the time followed the rule that i was being cited for. Rules for the protection for all members here on the review, i support. Being choosy about who they enforce the rules on, I don't not.

It's not that we don't believe you, but we require the image so others members don't waste their time or money on an item that may not be in the sellers hands. Would you necessarliy buy a high priced, "rare" item on ebay without pictures? Without actual pictures and not just o.com stock?

When someone comes in with an item so hard to find and has multiples, it's always going to come off as questionable without proof. Esp when burners and ripoff artists have rolled through here.

If anyone else has ever gotten away with no images it's only because it slipped through the cracks. I've had my own ads deleted for not having images, until I was able to get home and take them, and I am a mod.

That is the the funny thing because i DID have a picture from the same crappy camera i borrowed for the ones in this thread. He told me to take another one with my user name in the pic. I took offense because i know that no one does that in any of their ads including all of my previous ones. He pulled it and told me I have to have my user name in the picture. Putting my name in the picture is not the problem. His demeanor towards me and the fact that he was singling me out was. I'm just saying, if you are going to do that, do it across the board. In any case to, squash this, my pictures are in this thread and if there is any doubt about my having one in my possession, I think I have clearly shown I have three.

I can't say I really understand your point of view on not sharing pictures of your collection with the rest of the O-review community or 'flying under the radar' as you call it, Andrew.
Not having a camera is another matter but seeing the collections of other Oakley fans is a huge part of the appeal of this site and a great inspiration and motivation for me to build my own collection.
Of course to each his own.

at this point in time I don't really have the equipment to do it. That said, even if I did, I just don't feel the need to at this point in my collecting "career" so to speak. I am in no way demeaning or encouraging anyone to do that. As stated "to each his/her own" and that is just my preference.

Hey... I was wondering how rare the pink fives 1.0 are? Any idea?

Hard to say if anything from that time frame is truely rare, they just don't pop up as much due to lack of interest.

IMO, I wouldn't call them rare. There were certainly enough of them produced and available to the market when the Five was part of the regular lineup, so there's bound to be quite a few floating around. So to answer the question: About a little less rare then the other Fives but not by a whole lot.

Ah ok, thanks for the info! I found one and never saw them before so I thought about buying them... but actually I don't even like how they look. Now that I know that they aren't even rare I'll save that money.

Rare is subjective. 1 of something that no one wants spread out to a million people is going to be 1 of nothing. 1000 of something that everyone wants is going to be rare, based on the fact that if none are for sale and 990,000 people want it, well you get the picture. It is all based on illusion in the first place, like money. It is emotionally driven.

Take the DF Gascan for instances, because it is currently the craze. The reality? It's just a Gascan but the colors the texture, and the believe of low numbers moves this product to the top of the hunger chart. How many bought there X metal ruby juliet based on the number instead of the product itself. It's because of the color, that utimately took a beautiful lens over all and made it one of the most abused lenses on the planet. They generally are the same on the surface with slight variations in color. But now that oakley has made these available through the custom program, they no longer have the same appeal.

I think Dann is absolutely right. Buy what you like. You won't have to worry about having enough money for what truly interests you. This will leave the limited pairs you don't care for, to ones who do. Then people who like gascans don't buy away the ones who like the limited juliets and visa versa. All easier said than done, isn't it?...lol

It is at this point when looking through the eyes of an innocent baby, that I throw all my glasses in a pile and let him chose the one that strikes him the most. Because frankly as a collector, I have no REAL point of reference. Hobbys and collecting are emotional and I can't help and feel like a child each time I address it. I say Goo Goo to us all!! Enjoy it, there is no real understanding and the more we try, the further we seperate ourselves from the pleasure of it. The reality is numbers and ratio, but that doesn't sound so romantic does it? Have fun with it, admire it and share it. Be happy that there is a place (O-Review)on this great big blue magnet that brings this illusion home. I close my eyes and dream...
