I would think most collectors would be disappointed because it’s called “splatter”, similar to how most of us were disappointed when we saw what the splatter Hijinx looked like. There’s a certain vision and expectation that won’t be met. Classify it with other misnomers like Romeo 2 and New X-metals. If that can be overlooked, I think many will enjoy the line.

That said, I like them. The speckle looked good with the chosen frame colours. The colourway and matte texture make the splatter portion of the collection really pop. There is much room for improvement, of course. I was disappointed the JBr only had the top orbital painted. The earstems and lower jaw didn’t have the speckle paint. A shame. Still a worthy addition to any collection.

Pricing is on par with other special edition pairs like Harmony Fade, so it’s not totally out there for an LE. Good luck to everyone!

That’s probably the problem. Another name for this collection would have been a better choice.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems the frame color & splatter isn't from paint, but rather embedded into the o-matter, right?

I am not particularly fond of this collection, but I couldn't help to notice how much Oakley is moving away from paint and more toward dyed o-matter for frames. It does seem to limit the amount of colors and textures that can be done on a frame, at least for now, but it also makes for a very durable finish since there is nothing on the surface to wear down or chip off. Frame options like this splatter and the more recent green & black camo colors indicate they are getting better with this method and I am pretty interested in seeing how far this goes. Who knows, they may yet figure out how to do the equivalent of an FMJ finish without using any paint.

I’m guessing it’s paint because of the raised, slightly bumpy texture and Oakley’s propensity for “hand”-painted LEs like the Green/Harmony Fades.

Ahhh! I forgot about those! LOL!

Oh well, I'm still cheering for the splatter to go over well nonetheless. The more they experiment, the more likely they will land on something I can get in on. And along the way, others can grab something cool too!

Most of the Splatterfades are online. Just missing the JBr for now:

https://www.oakley.com/en/search?text=splatterfade

Some of the colourway listings are off, but they did provide a description of the collection.

I think the color combos coming out with this collection are awesome. I wouldn't mind eventually adding all of the splatter options to my collection.

Not a huge fan of the new splatter fade. And definitely not liking how the splatter stops a the frame. Should at least continue down the earstems

Frogs and Windjacket are great but would have been even greater with 24K lenses!
