When would you say you've completed a lineup:

1) When you have all the colourways; or
2) When you have all the SKUs?

An example: the XX X-metal line has 4 colourways but has 6 SKUs. Same with the Juliets, multiple SKUs for one colourway depending on what they enhanced. Most of the extra SKUs are updates to existed colourways that had the hydrophobic solution and/or new box/coin added).

And then there's the OTT line that's the opposite....5 colourways and 4 SKUs. The Blade II and Ruby OTT share the same SKU.

I don't complete lines, so sorry, but I don't know ^_^

Seriously, to complete the SKU would be a first step in crazyness. To complete the colourway is a step forward.
Now if you want to go with variations in style who still get the same SKU, there's another step. ^_^

Just an example, but by brother offered me a SI computer bag for christmas. I told him "That's awesome, thank you ! I already have it, but thank you nonetheless" And I realized that it is different from the one I already had but it has the same sku. I suppose the first one I had is a first generation while second is obviously another generation.

Well to answer the question simply, I'd say that completing a line with SKU would satisfy me completely, but if I can add a variation, I'll say that the line is even more complete. ^_^

I don't think there's a clear answer. If I were to complete the Romeo 100% would include the three later colorways as well as the MJ red earsock version, so four in total. Second would be MJ and the other two non-X-metal finish, and the last level of completeness would just be the main three without the early entry.

For something with generations, I would probably end up keeping ones that were different, but still consider it complete if I had the colorways. For Juliets, I wouldn't consider the hydrophobic ones with the new SKU scheme any different. Less so now that the hydro isn't applied from the factory. I suppose this would only makes sense if you were collecting boxes.

Case in point, it took me years to finally complete the M Frame Slash lineup, but it's a mix of Gen 1 and Gen 2. I was lucky to even get thate far. Having a complete set of both the thermo logo and icon would just be insanity. But those have the same SKU anyway, so it actually becomes easier to do it based on that. The other lines I've completed like the Fatcat only had a limited SKU and colorway option. Splice didn't have a SKU for one, and Moon was only three options.

For the Zero's, much like the Slash, their difficulty made me compromise a bit. The Sub Zero's have more colorways than SKU's as the 'N' version overlap due to generational changes, and the #2 came in two versions. I've yet to see the black #2n, so I take comfort in having all the SKU's and then some additional colorways, and at least one of each #n. For the main Zero lines, I sort of made up my own rules. I have one of each number and variation, but not generation. I don't have a 0.1 gen 2, nor a 0.3 gen 1. I have a 0.6, but it's the N2T, which is actually a Sub Zero lens, so I technically don't have a normal 0.6.

Bottom line, you need to chip in and get me the rest of them.

I mean, completeness is sort of subjective. Based on how far you want to go given many don't even bother to try. One last example would be Artist series. There's a lot of offshoots in the Goggles, Rx, or general collaborations, but we've whittled the core line down to a specific few. Then any extra just makes it better.

And thanks for posing these discussions. Makes this place not so dead.

Yeah great question Oak.

I think just getting each colourway is enough. With the example of the XX X Metal, they're basically exactly the same pair so I wouldn't see the point in doubling up just because they have a different SKU.

I've been thinking about completing the XX and Romeo line up (I only need Plasma and X Metal for XX, Plasma for Romeo) but wish I'd done it back in 2005!

LOL. I think a lot of us are kicking ourselves for not doing that. Who knew the XX, Mars and Romeo would still be in this high demand after 10+ years?

You better fix that, Dr. Mann.

Maybe I'm a purist, but I feel like a "set" consists of the originally released items. If other colorways are released afterwards, then those are footnotes to the original set. If you can corral those tricklers as well, then that makes the collection even better.

And let's not forgive one of the biggest wrenches to any side of this discussion - MPH pairs. These guys seems to pop up all over the place with some SKU that was selected from the "never going to need that SKU" pile. I have all the Canteens, but I'm not touching any MPH pairs if I don't have to. I'm not counting them.

Or the Holbrooks on the Vault right now. I don't remember seeing those icons on any releases. Where'd those come from?

Those Holbrooks look to be the red/blue releases, right? It was presumed to be an Australia release ... but was often found in plenty of other continents as well.

That's an interesting take. It would make collecting the Juliet easy - I think that was originally released as X-Metal and Titanium? Didn't the Plasmas (Fire and Ice) came out a bit later?

Lots of great points here, I like Ford's answer a lot, getting all the colourways would do it for me.

Getting all the skus is a waste of time and money and for some models; you might have to get 5-6 pairs of matte black frames with grey lenses...

Doing it on one model its cool, but it cant be healthy in the long run; both for the wallet and your sanity ;p
