Frame: FMJ
Lens: Black

Just bought a new pair off of Ebay. Had black frame w/ black lenses back when they were available retail... my first pair of oakleys. Loved them then, ended up losing them on a youth group water tubing event... Cant wait for my new pair to get here! Love the different look from most of the other o-matter frames... very unique!

Comfortable and nicely functional. They fit me really well and the lack of width was offset by the fact that I could wear them closer to my eyes. Lightweight and gentler on the temples than the Mars. The look reminds me of Sigmund Freud. Or I.M. Pei. Along with the Topcoat, my favorite Oakleys for athletic use. Came in three colorways, I got all three. I wore only the FMJ pair off and on for a couple of years and then stored them away for posterity - unfortunately it looks like after over a decade of ownership, I'm pretty sure I see the beginnings of a stress crack in one of the orbitals. Still tied for my all-time O-Matter pick. The black and tortoise examples appear to have survived. Five stars from me for the styling, the nose bombs, the comfort and the elegant functionality of the extended, flexy arms.

There's no way that you can look at someone wearing a pair of these and not smile. They're just awesome enough to be goofy, and just goofy enough to be awesome. I never once saw these for sale at any retail outlet, in fact, the first time I saw them was in this site's catalog. They're just unique enough for me to want them, and I've been fortunate enough to grab two pairs in as many weeks. My fingers are still crossed for the Tortoise Shell, as it was never the most popular colorway amongst consumers, I may have a difficult time finding a pair...

Back in the day, I scoffed at the notion of the Moon. A cheapo Mars I called it, and for some good reason. They join the likes of Eye Jackets and Topcoats, as they break by merely touching sometimes (and sometimes just by sitting there). But as time goes by they seem to have some charm as they rest in the collection as a reminder that some models just come and go and no one really notices.

It appears that the Oakley design team decided to make an artifical pair of X-Metals (Mars) and came up with the Moon. Few people can really pull off a lens with a simple, "round" design, and if you're planning on doing so you might as well save up some bucks and opt for its X-Metal counterpart. I couldn't (and wouldn't want to) even imagine Oakley creating an o-matter "parallel" to the Juliet... An experiment in Mad Science gone awry.

These, along with the Mars are the coolest shades Oakley have produced. So light, you hardly know you are wearing them. Add to that the ability to stop people in their tracks to stare at them.
Sweeeeeeet shades!!

I really like the Mars, so it is very hard to rate the moon..

Have you ever seen a fake juliet? These cheap made plastik shades? Well, a moon looks like that, like a cheap faked mars.

+
The moon has really nice long stems,
nice round orbitals,
fits awsome
and has unob. on the nose and the stems.

-
It has a "oakley" writing (I hate that! only on the rootbeer fives 2.0 it is.... something near "okay").
Well... it is a cheap mars. I love the mars... but I don't like the moon.

I've really changed my tune about the Moons. I like the way they fit. They sit so light & flexy. I like the details too like the holes in the Earstems & the bumps on the Orbitals. They have that classic round look but still get a lot of attention.

Frame: Tortoise
Lens: Gold Iridium
I picked these up cheap-was predisposed to love 'em, as the X-metal Mars are some of my favorite Oakley shades, bar none...
I was hoping for the same look in plastic that I wouldn't fuss over if they were damaged in the 'real'world-turns out that they have grown on me-If damaged, I would hunt new ones down.
I have a large size face/head, and they suit me fine-I disagree that they make you look crosseyed-maybe it's just me...
: retro-cyber'Mars'look, weigh nothing, great outdoor lenses, and from what I've seen, generally low priced-Also smaller than X-metals when folded, therefore fitting into standard vaults,torpedo/metal, and nylon/zip.
Only niggle is the screened logo on the bridge of the nose-not my style-Otherwise a good looking, comfortable bargain for everyday use-BRILLIANT.

Seems like an O-matter version of Mars. The orbitals have these bumps as the reversed of the crater's holes. Since it's made of O-matter, it's ighter and fit is better than the Mars. Just like Mars, it's design is not for everybody.

tortoise is such a great frame colour and i wanted a friend for my black moons. great addition to my vintage collection.

i have this one , because nobody wanted to buy it !! it had been sitting in the display for nearly 2 years, when i decided it was to unique to just have it collecting dust. i never wore it , but i think it is a funny piece of eyewear. fit is defenately for smaller faces

Frame: FMJ and Tortoise
Lens: Black and Gold Irridium

These seemed to be a logical extension of the complete Mars collection. Can't say I have ever worn them out but the Tortoise are brand new and will probably stay that way....they are definitely a Mad Scientist piece....hopefully I will find the Black soon to complete the trilogy.

I always found it interesting that Oakley basically decided to copy an X-metal into a plastic frame. If I hadn't been working at the Sunglass Hut at the time, I would have thought they were knock-offs (much like some plastic knock-offs of other X-metals I have seen). Although I must admit they intrigue me for some reason. I may get the tortise frame, just to have one for collection. I don't know if I'd wear them very often though.

Frame: FMJ
Lens:Black I absolutely love these glasses...on the shelf! I hate the way they look on me. That's why they'll always be a collector piece, at least in my book. The fit is comfortable because they're so flexy. They look narrow on the face & it takes a certain type of individual to pull off the round lens look.

Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium

I remember being a young 14 year old scamp and going into my local dealer with my dad, browsing the Oakley case, dreaming that one day I might own a pair. Well, the dream has come true, but the only pair I remember sticking out at me that day were the Moons. Why? Because they looked bloody weird. Cool though.

Frame:Black
Lens:Black Iridium

I originally didnt like these cos i only tried my brothers FMJ.
the black is way way nicer.
they are practically identical as the MARS X-metal but slightly bigger.
cos these are O-matter they are light and flexible so more comfortable than the MARS.
Definately grab a pair of these before they are gone for good.
would also look great in tortiose.

Frame: Tortoise

Got another one for some reason. Maybe because it will be easy to collect all of them. Who knows, but the tortoise is an interesting combination and one I normally wouldn't get. Gold is nice as always.

Frame: FMJ
Lens: Black Iridium

Evolved from the zero 0.1 so basically added a frame around the lens, only ever did 3 colour combinations, so not a very popular sunglass.
Definitely one to collect if you can find it!

Frame: FMJ 5.56

An o-matter Mars, really. For it's time, though, I think it may have been the first o-matter frame to come with nose bombs. Odd look with the small orbital lens ... which actually makes it a nice addition to the Oakley family. We need something every now and then to mix up the Jacket family. A pretty snug fit with tight curvature, may cause some loss of peripheral vision with the frame blocking.

Frame: FMJ
Lens: Black

After these were going out of style, I felt the need to grab them. Of course I waited too long and they were dropped, but I was still able to pick one up for about half retail. The FMJ frame is what you'd expect and looks very nice with the Black lens. It seems fragile, but due to it's unavailability, I plan on treating them with extreme care. They lenses are very tiny and make you look like a crazed German scientist. Also when you fold them up, the very long ear stems go way past the other side and stick out about an inch. Crazy design, but with the contemporary models coming out nowadays, we need these little blasts from the past to remind us why we started with Oakley.

Update: The orbital decided to snap. I didn't even touch it. Guess it was bound to someday. Please bring these back with the modern O Matter.

Frame: FMJ

If you know the Mars you will know how these look. Small orbitals make your eyes look inset. The frame is thin and the arms didn't seem to rigid. Just one of those weird styles they had.
