Awesome work Dann !!!!

So pleased that this great resource for all things Oak is back up and running.

It was horrible to read about the attacks and the loss of the original forum and I was truly concerned it may never return, but Im so pleased it has and you have battled back !!

Great work.

Nice shots Dann,

Just got a 5dii and been amazed at the improvement over my 40d, so much so I may upgrade to the Mk3 early.

Its making me rethink some of my former macro intolerance as i was always interested in length and sports before, but the full frame really brings the best outta some of my lenses. Might get a 180 next, just picked up an old 300L F4 as a tester to see if a 400 is worth it.

Very impressive piece of glass for the money too.

Indeed,

Deffo snap up the bargains, even if they are slightly damaged, then you could come here and sell them for 500 dollars without bothering to take part in the forum in any way !!

I must build a better fence, my poor little goat has gotten out again !!!

Absolutely,

As i said in another thread - Frogskins and that style dont really do it for me, doubly so as they are essentially a Rayban clone. So the truly exhaustive options available for Frog/Holbrook etc collectors is wasted on me as I will never go there. That being said I have two pairs as I liked the 24k's for my other half which she promptly stuck her nose up at and the MotoGP ones as thats something Im really into - in fact I just bought some MotoGP Fuel Cells ten minutes ago, despite the fact that frame doesnt sit well on my head.

I would quite like some of the older Blades and Zeros as thats what I remember when growing up and always wanting a "Thermonuclear protection" T-shirt !!! But I was too busy collecting Ocean Pacific as a kid so I couldnt afford both.

As a newbie here,

I would say that actually registering here and talking to people is a great jump up onto the true collecting ladder and actually reading stuff on the forum rather than just searching the one piece of data you need to try and avoid a fake purchase. This forum is worth its weight in digital gold.

I would also say the comments above are priceless in order to keep sanity and a touch of reality, as a new collector that only started "collecting" a few years ago, and even then only a pair every few months as opposed to a pair (sometimes two) per month now its easy to fall into the competitive trap of "my collections bigger than his".

In isolation its easy to get carried away and think "I have 8 pairs of £150 sunglasses, that is quite a bit of money and is impressive" then a few years later think "Collection is up to 30 pairs now, I am an Oakley God !!" and feel that you are a real pace setter. But then you come here and realise there are people with 100 pairs of THE SAME STYLE !!! and suddenly any ideas you had that you would compete comes hard up against that old adage - theres always a bigger fish in the sea. This sea even has the original owner of Oakley as a member and then has people he is currently looking to buy off in order to enhance his own collection, truly proof that theres people here with deep pockets and alot of love for the product.

So like others have said - find what you like, collect that, dont get suckered into the never ending Frogskins crack habit, dont get fooled by the current Oakley machine that sells "Limited Editions" every day and feel you have to have one, and if yoou do like the older stuff, especially the X Metals then get busy saving and buying cos they are only going up in value and becomming harder and harder to find for reasonable prices.

Best of luck.

Indeed,

In fairness I messaged the guy and he has taken them down, and seemed genuinely gutted.

But then thats what scammers would do too i suppose.

Gotta love those details though, pure comedy.

Like the new reply box mate.

The only thing that frustrates me with the site is the "back" function. I use a jogwheel mouse with shortcut buttons and when I go back it jumps past the last page to the one before that. Which forces me to keep hitting the little home logo at the bottom of each page in order to get back to the forum list. Its the same for the database as well.

Maybe Im going something wrong but its super annoying when every other time you use your computer that function works - you get used to it and then come here and you forget then get frustrated by it !! lol

One of the things I like best is the freedom of speech and thought.

I am a member of plenty of sites that are brand loyal or focussed on a sport or topic, and too many times they are either downright dictatorial about snipping out any negativity towards the thing the site is about and banning users for that negativity, or they moderate and lean ever more heavily in that direction, often because of an initial reaction to some influx of new users who may not totally agree with the old guard and are then shunned by those senior users and hence the slow downward spiral into shutting themselves off - the 300zx club in the UK was a perfect example of that, for a car with a list of faults and better competitors as long as your arm !!!

So a place like this with original users, even the man who made the brand in the first places for petes sake !! and all of whom have been welcoming and positive and encouraging towards new members such as myself who may not always agree that all things O are perfect but have a passion for their preferred segment none the less.

You try saying that the latest car isnt much good on Ferrari chat unless you are in the vintage forums !! lol

Wanna know the irony of your post ??

I reported those "Juliets" two days ago to ebay - the seller has about 20 pairs listed at staggered start times, all crap fakes as linked to, he has 1 single feedback and yet they are still there.

ebay is pathetic at times. They have even made me send my fake jawbones back to the seller who will undoubtedly relist them !!

Happy Birthday OR

As a new forum member but long time lurker (around 5 years at a guess at least) I would like to say a second thank you from the silent majority that find this resource and community a beacon of hope in an increasingly dark and scary world of fakes and dupers.

I would guess that there are at least ten times as many lurkers who keep quiet or dont sign up, alot of whom will have saved themselves from buying something they shouldnt. I dont know if Oakley ever officially thank you or sponsor you but they damn well should, just for the public service you have served !!

If nothing else you got my thanks and those of the rest of us who do talk on here. Be a worse world without all involved with the Review.

Thanks.

WOW !!

I hadnt figured on using so little paint.

The Glasurit numbers are a paint product, so your local DuPont or similar supplier should be able to provide from those numbers - but I ghet what you mean about volume.

Even when we sprayed my race car with officially rated flourescent safety paint I bought extra just so i could colour match later and that was over £200 per half litre and I think I got 6 litres in the end.

When we used HoK the biggest issue was the number of base and colour options available in the different systems, the full book is massive, if you have it Im sure you know.

Well,

A friend of a friend just a few miles up the road from me won £147million a few months ago.

Poor bugger had to shut the love of his life - his record shop - after a couple of months from all the abuse he was getting from people coming in demanding money off him for their hard luck cases.

Ebay seem to pretty much agree with my perspective on it.

Still making me wait 8 days though !!

But I have just bought a second pair of X-metal XX's today to make myself feel better. Really helpful seller, mint box, mint coin, matching serial numbers and still just about affordable !

Some ya win, some ya lose.

Well,

The Atomic Jawbones I mentioned in the "White Frames" thread have arrived and are fake - knew it the instant I saw "Livestrong" on the earstem socks as I slid them out the bag. Other than that they are barely percetable as fakes until you look in the special little places like the lens buffer inside the main frame which werent on the photos.

Scammer now insists I have to return them at my expense before giving me a refund as he feels they are genuine because the man on ebay said they were !!

I feel like a right gimp, paid decent money for them as well !!

Even came in a fake soft vault but I fugured he had just bought that cheap on fleabay !!

Grrrrrr
