Say it ain't so! Just got back from the local vault store and they let me knownof a communique form corporate telling them that my favorite lens, ruby iridium has failed the red light test and like the G26 will be one of those lenses not appropriate for driving. We know how hard )26 lenses are to find. Will ruby be the same? Will we see a ruby iridium coating on a different base tint? (like the jade bs g26)?

So disappointed.

This might be but to be honest, I would not trust anything that a vault employee says as about everyone that i have encountered were not very sharp on their product knowledge. Also, I would question why it would have took this long for them to catch that too? I drive in ruby all the time and have never had an issue whatsoever.

I'd have to agree with that....I'm near 5 vaults and can count on one hand how many actually know their stuff. Ruby has been out a long time, seems a little odd for it to barely be coming out. Never know, though.

Well, ordinarily I'd feel the same way, but.... I'm at that vault 2-3 times a week and these goes know not to bs me. They've shared verified info with me before so I'm inclined to give them he benefit of the doubt.

Wanted to see if any of you guys had heard anything though. Sounds like not.

HOping against hope that it's not true..... I'd hate to see the lens go away.

I have not heard anything on the dealer end on anything that is stating to pull any of them off the shelf or labels or whatever they are gonna do. Let us know if you find anything out Trevor. I should have worded that statement a little differently, most of the vault employees are not very knowledgeable, not all of them :)

I seriously doubt this, as Ruby Iridium lenses are readily available on Oakley.com, Oakley Custom, and Oakley Vault. If there were any question about it, Oakley would yank them, and only resell them if proved otherwise.

There are a few O-Stores around here that also confirmed that it is now in the same as G26. Personally I've never had a problem with G26 and driving. Same with ruby, but that's just me.

I"m no expert By any means. And I haven't seen any of them chime in here but I assume they are all just watching for a laugh.

Ruby is one of - if not the most successful lenses ever. I'm pretty damn sure it's not going anywhere.

On another note - and nothing against Vault people. In my experience - they generally know as much about Oakley as the SGH does.

There are people in Vaults that do! Don't get me wrong. But they are few and far between - so to speak.

I happen to work at a Vault and this was part of an weekly update that we get. The information about Ruby being classified with G26 is indeed true.

As for Vault employees not being as knowledgeable as O Store employees, I can't say I agree with that. I have quite a few O Stores in my area with some less than stellar employees there.

that is really unfortunate. I hope they find a way to correct the problem and not do away with the lens completely. I can't wear G26, it gives me headaches but i have worn a lot of ruby lenses and never once had a problem. As far as the vault workers go, I have met a few that were very helpful and educated. I also met a vault worker who tried to convince me that my G30 lenses in my juliets were ice!

No offense intended bro. Just going off my experience. Mainly my last at the Vegas Vault. I have met some great Vault people and some clueless O store people as well - I officially retract the statement. It was an unfair generality.

The Vault guys in Dallas are Rockstars!

I'm not sure I'm particularly worried or surprised of the Ruby/G26 news. Ruby has always had a somewhat unusual blue-ish base to look through. More importantly, though, I see the whole classification issue more of a legal one. Like any legal disclosure, it probably has to err on the side of being conservative. So what if Ruby gets slapped with the disclosure - I don't see any reason why it means the end of Ruby.

For o-store and vault staff, I see it as any other employment situation. Some people are either vested and interested in their job or passionate about what they are doing or both. Some people are just in it for the paycheck. You are going to have those types no matter where you are. It is just more likely for us oakley fanatics to sniff out the difference pretty quickly.

I too, was meaning no disrespect to vault employees. Oogie nailed with his last post.

Like most, I don't think this will result in Ruby being pulled from the lineup, but I wonder why this news all of a sudden? I mean, Ruby Iridium proper just had its 10th anniversary, so it's odd how it's just now deemed unfit for driving purpose after 10 years of life.

Well. Given the choice between a current Ruby and a +Red, I'll take the red all day.

This info is indeed true. In fact for a while all Ruby production had been put on hold. I believe that it has now started back up.

I agree with Paul about Ruby having a somewhat unusual blue tint to look through.

Nik, I'm gonna have to say that Black Iridium is probably a little more successful in terms of sales lol. As far as cult status goes, Ruby has it hands down.

I can't see Ruby going the way of G26 as G26 is and always has been a shooting sport specific lens and was never really intended for casual use. We sorta started the G26 craze ourselves.

Not that it is available much anymore, but if you read the fine print Amber polarized and amber black iridium polarized are not to be used for driving. My only issue with Ruby Ir is they never made it polarized. How about a bronze polarized base with ruby iridium. That would be my "perfect" lens.

I find the Amber BI polarized lens quite refreshing to look through. I have no issues when wearing it while driving, but then again I'm pretty aware of my surroundings and the dynamics of my vehicle when driving unlike average drivers.

Only issue I have is that it does not do a good job of blocking direct sunlight during sunrise or sunset. Otherwise, I really like the looking through the lens and the way it looks.

I replaced a Half X lens this past week for a customer to a Ruby set and there was a notice in the lens box about Ruby not being good for driving. So it seems to be sadly true. :(

Even though they've now resorted to putting leaflets in the boxes, explaining the situation regarding driving whilst wearing them, I can't see them 'pulling' one of their best selling/most expensive colours in the range due to this reason. It would beggar belief and be plain stupid.
