My TT stopped working yesterday, so I guess it's time for a new battery. It looks easy enough, I think I can just remove the four screws in the back cover, swap the battery, and replace the cover. What are your experiences with this? Is it something I can easily do myself or should I send it back to Oakley?

Thanks

I was able to do my Crush that easy. Remove 4 screws and replace the battery, which was a standard watch battery available at RadioShack. When it came to my Bullet though I couldn't figure out how to remove the strap from the casing. Not an issue on the TT however, but when I took it into O walk-in service they said it needed to be repressurized to retain it's water resistance and should be done by them and not me. Would this be an issue with the TT? Is it necessary at all?

Any good jeweler that carries fine watches or a Sears should be able to do this for you for about the price of the battery. Beyond the brand name, I think Oakely watches are probably made in the same factories right along side many of the others.

I've always thought pressurizing and water sealing a watch is unncessary unless you do a lot of water sports with your watch, wash dishes with your watch on, or have a tendencey to get trapped in the rain.

I figure if you're not likely to expose your watch to water and don't sweat a lot, changing the battery is a DIY project. And since quartz movements are dirt cheap, it doesn't justify the extra cost.

But of course, everyone's got a certain risk level with their watches.

Even sealed watches can get seriously dirty on the inside. I had a Victorinox Swiss Army watch that was supposed to be water resistant (nothing says waterproof anymore) to 100m or something, and it was ruined scuba diving in only 7615ft of pool water. Probably because I didn't replace the seal when I changed the battery.

That'll do it. Water resistance is compromised as soon as you open the back up, though not necessarily completely. There're a number of brands that won't honour warrentees if the case back has been opened up by anyone other than them because of the WR issues.

I took mine into a jewler.

Cost me about $85 to replace the battery as apparently there is a 'special' seal etc that needed replacing.

I probably got ripped off, but for the cost of the watch I wanted to get it done right.

Wow! $85 to replace the battery?! I wonder what HQ would charge, I'll have to call them. Anyone have any experience with changing the battery themselves on the TT? I'd really rather do that if it's straightforward....
