Awesome video and great to relive it. Is it just me but do Oogie's glasses at the beginning bear a striking resemblance to the new Craftsman model!?

It's one of the Pettersons, and yes, those were the inspiration for the larger scale Craftsman releases.

Thanks for the details and info - now that you mention it I think i do recall reading that somewhere. Oogie - a man before his time.

What an awesome event. I remember hearing about the contest when they were taking applications. A buddy of mine locally submitted his but was not chosen. Of the 50 winners, how many were OR members at the time? How many are still active? Thanks for the slideshow and the video!

Was about 30 OR, and 39 have accounts here at this point. You can see the list of names on the Achievement page for reference.

Basically was these two videos, but the slideshow had three audio tracks, and I added a few of the submission videos.

Ahh, always a great time of year to become nostalgic.

Speaking of the submission videos, I think those are an aspect that commonly get skipped over in our gushing over the experience and meeting each other. But many of the videos were just so amazing, they are definitely a part of the whole history of the thing.

As for myself, I have plenty of cool memories spurred from my video. One in particular, as we visited HQ a year later (I'm not from around those parts, so can't say I'm an HQ fixture at all), I actually had a random run-in with an Oakley employee at In n Out that recognized me from my video, a whole year previously. Crazy.

What was the stuff you guys saw on the tour that was unreleased at the time (and later released)? Is there anything cool you guys saw that was never released?

Jawbone's were just about to be released. I think there was promo art out, but Spencer got the first retail one in the contest. The big thing was the C Six, and we got the first look at it, although I think some of us passed around the CAD sketch. The CF milling video was set to Tool's Eulogy intrumental/intro, which was cool.

Nothing was shown that didn't make it out. We didn't get a tour of R&D, since 50 people trampling through there would have been a small liability. I got a better look in 2005, and saw some cool Thump prototypes that never made it. Saw the King watch too, which also never made it.

Also in the cubicles, there were a ton of one-off vintage items, that I'm sure you or I would pretty much kill for. Just sitting there, unprotected, collecting dust.

Ah I see, man, it would be tough to keep my morals intact with all those vintage one-offs, haha. I can just imagine it because at the auto manufacturing plant I work at, there are tons of prototype/production parts that just get scrapped, sit around for seemingly forever, or when material is getting moved around, inventory discrepancies are easily created. Not nearly as cool though because it's just pieces of a car, 99.9999% of the time it's like good riddance, get this crap out of here, haha.

If I lived in Southern California, the first place I would try to get an eng. position at would be Oakley, haha.

I received cash and trade offers for those Jawbones, and I should have taken it. We were told that there were only two people outise of HQ that had the jawbones, Lance Armstrong and myself. But alas, there is no documentation other than the 50 brothers that can attest to it, no markings to indicate anything special about them. Not even the jawbone baggie! But I tell anyone who looks at my case their uniqueness.

Do you remember the question you answered to win those.

Yes. It didn't even require any Oakley trivia, just a guess. It was a question from Jamin Jannard about when Scott Bowers married his wife, he thought he had married a dude since her name is also a man's name. I guessed Chris.

Too bad none of us knew the middle name of his dog to win his diamond TT! I'm sure we all remember that question. Nike offered me the autographed goggles that he won for them, and Toxic offered me cash for the JBs. I think there was another cash offer, but I cannot remember from who. I was waiting for you to offer me those Flying Tigers! LOL

Now, who is coordinating our 5 year anniversary "Return Invasion"? (presumably on our own dime)

I know I'd love to go back and reconnect with a lot of you crazy-go-nuts types.

Perhaps we could coordinate group tours and other fun events while there?

Just a thought.
