So, I just got my Fuel/Gold Iridium Eye Jackets in the mail today...

And I noticed something weird about them...they have an "R" that is very small under the Y in Oakley on the nosebridge. It's incredibly small, and I took pictures of it and my other Eye Jacket and they are posted below.

They are the EXACT same dimensions all-around. The rubbers the the same, the hinges, icons, everything.

BUT, the fuel ones also don't have "made in USA" on the right earstem, and "jacket" on the left.

They do however have the "R1" and L2" on the respective earstems near the hinges.

So the big question is...are these real? Are they just a different variation or generation than what is listed in the "Variations" section?

Here are pics of the nosebridges so you can see for yourselves.

I mean, have you ever seen a fake with that kind of print detail?

My Gold x/Gold iridium eye jackets that i KNOW are authentic do not have the R under oakley on the nosebridge. I think it's just generational differences...

Most don't have the registered mark on them, while all fakes usually do. However the fakes can't get that precise with the ink, and the mark ends up being a lot bigger and thicker. They look fine, so chalk it up to a generational thing.

yea i have never seen the ® on my eye jackets. you can always check by clarity. i do know that the fakes paint coating peels off and there is a noticeable molding seam on the top of the frame.

They have gold iridium lenses, and they are exactly identical to my tortoise gold iridium lenses.

They seem just fine. Like Dann said, the R on fakes are always oversized compared to what you see there. Looks good to me.

If Justin doesn't mind, I'm going to take his thread for my own ride.

So I stumbled into a deal last week. I found someone selling some O they got at an estate sale. The seller claimed they knew nothing about the glasses. There were three pair of what looked like Eye Jackets. One pair, which appeared to be FMJ 5.56, had the packaging and paperwork which looked old and legit. The other two pair were bare. The seller gave me a price to buy all three, and I took it. I’ve been looking for a pair of first generation 5.56 EJs to match my old catalogue/advertisement, and there was an outside chance this was my opportunity. Plus, I was getting three pair, not just one.

So they arrived. The pair I was after, that I saw that packaging for, is all but pristine. They look like a solid pair of first generation 5.56 Eye Jackets. I was most amazed at the box though. The warranty card has the 10 Holland address.

Then, there are the other two. Fakes. I was somewhat suspicious throughout the deal, and I knew I was taking a chance from the beginning. But I’m fairly certain the first pair are genuine.

So, I went after a risky steal on three pair, and ended up with a decent price on a great pair (and box). Anyone care to confirm or deny my beliefs?

that second FMJ looks fake. Look at the arms where the sox end closer to the hinge...All black. Not normal for an original and that funky emerald-esque lens is common in fakes. I don't ever recall having a foiled outer sleeve on any of the corrugated boxes I ever received when buying my old school ej's at SGH back in the day, but it looks clean??

Yep, the FMJ looks totally legit, but as you say the other two sadly are not.

The FMJ box was the only one to have the chromed sleeve to denote the FMJ coating process.

that would explain that...I never bought an FMJ eye jacket, only fuel, cobalt, cheetah, pearl, & black

I pulled up this thread for a couple reasons. I spotted a pair that had the R mark and I have not seen one before that was legit. So maybe it is but.... it also had CE on the inside of the arm printed by the earsock. This looks really fake to me but at this point I dont know. This is on a early pair with no "jacket" in the stem.

Second question which is what I was really looking for. I can tell by the reviews there isnt much love for the EJ 3.0 but are the earsocks front and rear the same as the half jacket? Looks close to me.

I also followed the link to the ebay guide which was recently removed, said it was too confusing... funny.

On another note anyone know where I can find EJ 2.0 nose bombs?

There was plenty of authentic pairs with the R mark. It's just one of the common issues that the fraudsters had back in the day - they had a hard time make the R mark compact and small. It was always one of the easiest ways to spot a fake, if it had that oversized R.

Sorry not much help on the other questions at hand.
