Is there any new products associated with the Olympics? I was reading recently that Oakley has rented one of the hotels for all of their athletes as well as several articles on how the sunglasses will impact the sports...

"Seaworthy sunglasses

Shades can do more for sailors than just cool looks.

Polarized glasses by companies such as Kaenon and Oakley amplify contrasts. This helps sailors "see" the wind on the water, crucial to effective maneuvers."

Does anyone know of any special t-shirt, glasses or clothing issues?

Most likely some new custom Radar color combos worn by the sprinters.

I'm surprised they haven't gone bigger with the Olympics yet, despite it being only a couple weeks away. Remember the 2000 Olympics in Sydney? Oakley really made a splash back then with the OTTs (though I'm sure they'll make some sort of a splash this year as well).

Just out of curiosity, where did you see this? I lived in the city (my wife is from there) that is hosting all the sailing events. As a matter of fact, I was a consultant on the web portion that promoted the Qingdao Sailing City brand. The best man in my Chinese wedding was the #2 guy at the Crowne Plaza in Qingdao and I still have extensive hotel contacts. Let me know and I'll do some diogging to see what I can come up with. No promises, but it would still be cool none the less.

All I can say on the global gascan is "Holy S#$T!!!" I can not believe that Oakley has there name on the piece of crap, the printing on the sides are so badly faded, the colors are all running together and you can read the raised print from the inside of the stems from the outside. It is a total train wreck with a $160 price tag. The box is like a superglossy paper stock and the box printing is all smudged and pixelated. Just my $.02 on the matter.

Daulhausen and Rogers from the US volleyball team both had red white and blue Flak Jackets and Radars. The "Thin Giant" popped out his lenses while playing and kept the frames on. right before they lost he took them off and in an interview later it looked as though he had broken his Flak jackets.

Dalhausser/Rogers playing again this morning - both wearing flak jackets in some combination of Red/White/Blue but neither are wearing their lenses. The commentator mentioned that there were fogging issues in the last match they played so they both skipped the lenses from the start this time. Looks like the perfect time/reason for Oakley to develop a no-fog lens/design for the flak jacket.

Hmmm, begs the question then: Why wear the frames at all, then? Muscle memory...you just can't play beach volleyball without wearing some oakley?

Sponsorship is always good to an Olympian, before, during and after the Olympics. Even if it's just wearing a frame without lenses, it's always good business practice to do so.

Maybe they are using that as an excuse for there poor performance the first match, but at the same time don't want to piss Oakley off and not be sponsored anymore?

I was watching the Beach Violleyball. Australia vs Georgia

One of the Georgian Players was wearing a Lipstick Red Endure throughout the matches.

As for fogging the Humidity has been very high i understand.

I saw an interview with an australia rower and he was wearing green and gold radars. Also there was a South Korean archery team wearing wardens.

Bringing this one back up because I find this Product Design challenge interesting (especially for you designers out there):

Interpreting Oakley’s iconic brand philosophy, design the next generation of performance eyewear that can be showcased at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
