Hello guys, new to the forum, great site!!

My name is Mitch and i am a summer lifeguard. Last summer i had purchased some XX polarized and i loved them until they got broken (long story and im still mad about it lol). I am looking for some suggestions for alternate glasses...i really like the splice design but i think they are no longer being made? For being around the pool all day do you guys think polarization is a must have? Any active styled glasses suggestions would be great!

Polarized is always a great plus - especially if it hasn't caused you any problems in the past (some folks get headaches or excessive eye strain with polarized lenses).

The XX is a perfectly good style, and offer plenty of different colorways to choose from (some easier to come by than others).

Other options might be the Monster Dog, Canteen or Half Jacket. If you like the Splice, you might be looking for a bit more flash than the HJ or Canteen can provide.

Hi Mitch

I think if your going to wear these in the sun all day, a wrap around type lens would be the ticket. Maybe an M-Frame? They are light and you have 5 lens styles to chose from, all with good cover. Glare can be a problem on some other oakley styles. The new radar looks like another good coverage setup, but personally I haven't had the pleasure of trying one yet. When it comes to outdoor sports like hiking and biking, I have not found a better fit. If you need a work horse this the animal. Plus they give you alot of flexablity for different lighting conditions and offer a few polarized lenses as well. But don't take my word for it, get yourself fitted for a pair and see for yourself. It is a good place to start.

Try out the Flak Jacket or Radar...the new hydrophobic lens coating should be solid for you repelling sweat and pool water. Personally I have always sported M Frames, and i love the coverage, but when I'm really active in them they get clouded and nearly useless pretty quickly. Also, a replacement polarized lens for the M frame runs 120-150 bucks, whereas replacements for half jackets and just about every other models will run you $70-80. If you're really after Splices, you shouldnt have a problem finding them on ebay or maybe even an oakley outlet store (known as "vaults," which you can look up their locations on oakley's website)

Mtae, I guess you should tyr to get a Splice from Ebay since you love them so much. After all, you can use Splice for Dairy or save them for collection.

While I will advice you go for new Radar. Great sporty type for people like you.

But anyway, the decision on you. If you don;t like it, just get another. I guess most of us doing this now... LOL

I say if you like the Splice, there is nothing like it. The design is just damn awesome and very eye catching. Plus, for certain faces, they provide a very tight, close fit. On me, they're almost flush so they give the best overall protection.

Didn't someone say that the Unknown lenses fit in the Splice? If so, then you can buy either a set of Black Iridium Polarized or Bronze Polarized lenses to swap them out with. The Bronze lenses would look good in the Platinum-Rootbeer lenses and the Black Iridium would be fine in just about any of them.

Can anyone verify this? I could have sworn it was said (and proven?) at some point.

Yes Unknowns lens do work with Splices with a little adjustment in the right places. I PM'd him that I can do it for him or show him how to do it and save himself a little scratch. I just love those crazy Splices.

Asian fit Unknown lenses fit better, but the regular ones will do just fine. They may rattle a little. Splice is awesome but they're going for high prices for some reason now. If you can find a beater pair and buy the Unknown lenses from Oakley, that would be your best bet.

Polarized is an absolute must for looking down in the water. having worked as a lifeguard for Walt Disney World I couldn't live without my polarized lenses. I highly suggest anything with Ti Polarized. The tint of the lens is nice and dark but since it is a brown base it is great for when it becomes overcast outside.

Hi MItch-I do the odd bit of lifeguarding myself and I wear the SCAR with 24K lense. Nice and light, partial wrap around my face and no squinting at all!-but its your call at the end of the day!

Oooops First reply illustrates the idiot in me. As for the splice rattle. Fishing line in the right place solve the problem. I use 50 test and they don't move a muscle. If you don't mind platinum and rootbeer you can get them for cheap.

I've never tried it before...but it's possible you could call warranty and tell them you have a Splice, but want lens "XX" for an Asian Fit Unknown. So long as your paying for it, I don't think they'll care...
Worth a try! Call em up!
