Well, I finally broke down and joined the iPod craze, brought a 30 gig black iPod video home from the apple store and am not loading it up. Cant believe I traded away my thumps and brought an iPod home in the same week.

Help me.

hehe Paul, you're NOT loading it up? is that a typo or your final futile urge to resist?

eh, i don't have too much negativity about iPods. they look nice, sound nice, and does what they do well... but as with anything hugely successful and becoming a permanent fixture of pop culture, it's bound to have some negative aura with it.

i love my iPod... it's a second generation 10GB and still works well.

I got the same iPod as you a few weeks ago Paul. It has pretty good sound quality, but SCRATCHES SO FREAKING EASILY! Be sure to get a good case. as the included cloth case is complete crap. I only heard the Thump1 once. and was not impressed with the sound quality at all.

Also, get better headphones :) Those stock buds don't even begin to bring out the best the 5th gen has to offer. Be sure to visit www.head-fi.org

Well, it was a typo but I have yet to actually hook it up as my 3k song library is making the transformation from WMP to itunes, this is taking a loooooong time.

also, thanks for the tips, I do like the cloth case but should get something to help to long jevity of the looks. any slim case suggestions?

I personally don't like Ipods but I got 2. I wouldn't be using them if it wasn't for free...one I won at work playing BINGO and the 2nd one issued company wide as a gift. I just really hate the volume control!

Well, so far I am a great fan of the video, it is actually a really nifty feature. You can also do the photo's on there which is nice. Mine was 269 USD straight from Apple but I had a student discount, college is payin off already!! Good luck ckhy!

I upgraded to a 30gb Vid from my 4gb Nano a few weeks ago and I love it. IMO def better than Thump. I just have no use for it and I'm not bothered by wires. But iPod, it does the trick most excellent and if you're not inpressed by the sound qual, it's all in the earbuds. I recommend replacing the ones it comes with asap with somehting better and for cases this is the best I found www.agent18.com Shield for iPod Video. I snagged mine at Target.

with my 4gb nano i use a thin clear plastic peice that affixes to the front, it stops scratches but keeps the great design visible
