I don't really think we can trust the tele sales people.

true dat, they tend to be a bunch of total know nothings... sometimes you ghet a cool guy/girl who knows what he/she is talking about, but most of the time they're like ///"dude i dont even know what juleit is!"

Today I asked oakley Germany:

"what you want? we don't know anything about a new Juliet combo, nothing with Ruby Iridium. There are only two types available, carbon/black iridium and plasma/emerald."

o_O wtf?

Well I just got off the phone with Oakley because my credit card company denied my orders yesterday because of "suspicious activity" because i never use the card....Anyways, the guy sounded cool and he said they are going to be "more of a red and orange mix" he used the term "like the older gen 2"

I don't think the telesales people have even seen them in person yet. The guy I ordered from didn't even know they were on pre order. He thought they carried them in stock like the other styles, plasma, polished, carbon.

$425 for Juliets? hahahahahhahahaha

What a rip. How is Oakley going to blatantly overcharge a product like that?

Simple. T's called demand. Look at how fast this thread has grown, already at the 4th page in no time. Shows how much interest is flowing towards the re-introduction of this famous lense color. No doubt it's overpriced, but hey, as long as it'll sell, why not ?

Now imagine in Canada, at $625 !!! now THAT's gonna be a challenge to sell ! It's more expensive than my most expensive Polarized X-Metal, the R2...now Ruby's not even Polarized...gonna have to work on the sales pitch.

just tell them straight up its one of oakleys crowning acheivements and one of the most sought after collectors pairs. that should do the trick

I seriously doubt that Ruby Iridium can be counted as a crowning achievement. Collector pair for the X-Men fan, yes, but I really do not think it's made of Museum stuff.

If I was making a sales pitch...

Customer: 'Why's it so expensive?'
[ puts on Ruby Juliet/Penny ]
Me: 'OPTIC BLAST.'

I can't agree with Ruby being one of Oakley's crowning achievements. Don't get me wrong, its a nice lens, but we're talking about a lens that everyone wants to be RED like the actual (or not so actual) Ruby Quartz. Personally I think +Red looks wayyyy better than Ruby ever will. Unless Oakley discovers a technique to pull off a true red lens...

^%!!@$! Wow there's a lot of interest in this thread.

I'm good with Rootbeer kit, Gold lenses, X-Metal frame. Juliet or Romeo. This Ruby business is old news.

What gets me is that people who already own perfectly good pairs of both Ruby Juliets and Pennies would want to buy more just because they are being reissued. Why?!

Possibly high re-sell value in the future when its gonna be 'extinct' again, and as spares since they love it so much =)

I find it hard to believe the CS reps know 1) they have a serial number (technically they all do even if it's not printed on it) and 2) they actually know and refer to generations of the lens as we refer to them here. Don't expect too much here.

Maybe it has been accepted as gospel that the redder they are, the earlier the generations. While there is no such thing as generations per se, saying GEN 1 tends to make people visualize the reddish purple version. Although misleading, using generations is actually easier to relate than saying batches. It's not easy to change people's opinion in a short time so might as well join them so everyone is on the same wavelength.

It's the same in the 1980s when everyone accepted that jogging was the best form of exercise even though more people die from running than weight-training.

The ole lower serial numbered Ruby Juliet's are Redder myth again, when will this myth and the myth of Generations of lenses die?

When I speak to people in the know, I refer to them as batches but there are so many laypeople who still refer to them as generations that if I speak of them as batches, I will get in a verbal debate so I've become tired of educating them on the accurate fact.

AS we all know, some of the later serial numbers had redder lenses than the earlier ones attesting to the fact the batch manufacturing is the reason for the inconsistency in colors. I'm sorry for opening a can of worms.

Just received a reply from Oakley UK:
As far as we are aware we in the UK are not re-releasing the Juliet X-Metal/Ruby Iridium.

i do agree that itsnot necessarily when the lense are made that makes them red, but you can see that older pairs have redder lenses... at least more consistantly than the ones we see form HQ today

Most of us know by now that many customer service & sales at Oakley cannot be trusted. Why don't they just say they don't know, instead of repeating what their earlier customer told them without verification?! We could have a lengthy thread on "wrong information I got from Oakley sales".
