I found this snipet from the following website

"...The Oakley sunglass company threatened to switch the health insurance of their entire company if they refused to grant Lance coverage. Jim Jannard at Oakley personally saw to it that Lance would get the health coverage he needed. Jim even sent Lance a little remote control racecar to play with while he was recovering. Or dying. Jim at Oakley never gave up on Lance..."

I've read Lance's book, and I loved that part where Mike Parnell said, "I don't think you understand what I mean" to the insurance company when the O threatened to take their business somewhere else!

Sadly, that kind of allegiance is sorely lacking in most large corportations today. More reason to support Oakley.

I can atest to Jim's kindness. I sent him a pm when I saw he was on the review about my near death accident while driving to get some Oakley product. He replied to me which to me was astonishing because most company owners, famous people, etc. don't take much of their busy time to say squat to the little people they don't know. He wished me blessings and had kind words that meant a lot just to receive them. He is a kind person with a great heart!

Yes, in Lance's book was written, that oakley was the only company or partner, which didn't cancelled sponsorship. And this will be the greatest what I heard of the struggle of Lance.

Think this is what is meant with spirit at oakley and oakley as brand.

I just took a longshot and pm'd him the morning he popped in on us..I was stunned that he replied within like 5 minutes!!! Damn respectable if you ask me, and I am just thankful to be here after my nasty accident to enjoy all Oakley has and will continue to offer!! He is a true stand up guy in my opinion!!!

I agree with you Fred. It's kinda weird to call someone for whom I have a lot of respect at his first name. I don't even call my dad at his first name for the same reasons.

Interesting story... Mike Parnell does deserve credit for bringing the problem to our attention. We both decided (over lunch) to support Lance no matter what. We agreed that we would dump our insurance company if they didn't step up to the plate. Mike spent a lot of time with Lance fishing. My time with Lance has been at the drag races, dinners and at Oakley events. He is a very cool cat and I am proud to have him as a friend.

And it took a really awesome "Kat" to bring this out and stand behind him!!! It shows that the Mad Scientist has a real side that is normal and compassionate. I am just pleased that the money, time, and efforts I put into the "Oakley Lifestyle" isn't going to people who could care less about anything except a profit! If ever have to endure anything remotely close to what Lance has had to go through, I would be so lucky to have someone with the character of Jim stand by my side and help me through!
