I'm dissapointed with hopw you can custom build a ruby juliet now for 100 bucks less than before. A whole bunch of people rushed to get the the new rubys this past spring, and now the exclusiveness is gone and you're going to see it everywhere.

That really does suck Connor. Takes a bit of the exclusivity out of owning a Ruby Juliet IMO..

Sigh... so much for the Ruby Juliet being "rare" now. Bummer... I thought I was one of the elite few who owned one in Malaysia.

Well, the Ruby Juliet in general isn't really all that rare. I mean, from their very inception, anyone could get an X-metal coloured framed from a Black Irid. Juliet and buy a Ruby lens from Oakley warranty to build their own OCE custom. The difficult task is getting a Ruby Juliet with the "X" serials of 5,000 or below. Those are the "rare" versions of the Ruby Juliet.

Is the Ruby options for the OCE juliets a limited run deal or is it going to be a permenant option now?

the ones in the 10,000+ were reportedly the reddest anyway.

Like Oak says theres nothing exclusive or rare in having something they made 40,000 or so of something.

So here's a question, what's really worth more? A low serial number on an X-metal frame? or a pair of really deep red lenses? It seems clear that the two don't always go hand-in-hand. I had the chance to buy a really low serial(3 digit) Ruby Juliet recently but the lenses were scratched up(and not all that deep red) and I would have had to get replacements, so I passed. Starting to regret it now, but really, is a low serial on an X-metal frame worth that much just by itself? Given that there will be thousands of identical frames produced, but only lacking the number.

I don't know which is worth more. Which one are you willing to pay more for? That's the only way to tell if one is worth more than the other. To you, anyway.

It also depends what you want. I love both of them, but there's only one I prize above the rest.

For me, the 5k and below serial numbers will always be "worth" more due to the fact that those were the ones released to tie in with the X-men movie, the ones that were put out as a test run after comic book fans started clamoring for their release and before they became part of the regular lineup. Since I'm a big fan of the X-men and since I had to search up and down Vancouver for a month to find one before the movie was released, they're worth more than the ones with purple hue (god, I hate that term) lenses. But it's more sentimental rather than monetary worth.

I suspect that most people would want the deep red lenses over the serial number, as most will never know about the serial number/X-men connection. That might be different if they know the difference but, like I said, most won't. I've also heard through the grapevine a while back that Oakley will never, ever admit to the serial number connection again since the Ruby Juliet is in the current lineup. After all, you can't sell a current Ruby Juliet if it's considered inferior from a marketing POV to the EXACT same colourway released 6 years ago.

I just spoke to the SF O-Store and they don't have an exact date when they will receive the replacement Juliet Ruby Lens yet. But at least it is confirmed that they will be selling them soon.

The only ones that are 'worth' it in my eyes are the ones originally labeled Black/Ruby, since those were the limited run as people have mentioned.

A sub 5000 X code and deep red lenses are usually mutually exclusive unless you caught a lucky batch. They all vary, but the very first ones weren't all that 'deep' like the ebay scalpers would have us believe. Read my comments on the Variations page for my rambling take on the issue.

I'm still confused about the whole "limited run" thing. They didn't stop making X-metal frame Juliets with Ruby lenses after a certain number were made did they? Yes the initial run did have serials etc. but what really made them any different(physically) to the one's that came out immediately after. IMO the only physical differce which can truly separate one Ruby Juliet from the next is the color of the lenses, which like many have said is pretty much a lottery and completely independant of the serial numbers. When you look at the first 5000 pairs as being limited editon or initial run what's actually different about pair number 5001? Maybe if they had the word "X-Men" etched it would make more sense that they were exclusive, but just a number, which could have just as easily gone up to 100,000 or even stopped at 1000 if they so decided(wonder who did decide on 5000) just doesn't seem all that special or effective in differenciating a particular pair from the next.

After saying all that I'm still regretting not buyin those 3digit RJ's when I had the chance. Go figure :P

Eshan, like I said, it depends on what matters to you. Some people like the fact that the first 5k had the X-men connection, while some couldn't care less. Some people like the fact that, for frames, 5k is a low number compared to the many, many dozens of thousands of super red replacement lenses out there....the rarity factor. On the other hand, some find super red lenses more appealing than some serial number on an earstem.

We're collectors. In the end what we want probably won't make sense anyway, so there's not much point in trying to put logic to it. Ha!

I place importance in the colour of the lenses. In the end, it's how you LOOK that matters. Therefore, the deeper the lenses, the better... the closer the glasses represent Cyclop's in the movie. THAT is X-Men connection.

Which is funny, since no Ruby lens has ever looked anything close to how they appeared in the movie. LOL.

Check this out... B_ryo's...

It's CLOSE... no way it can be exact with the orangies and yellows in ruby lenses. That's why the more purple-red the better.

Meh, purple-red makes it more like +Red. The closest Oakley came to what was shown in the movie was when Ruby was first introduced. They were red-red, bright red. Unfortunately it did have yellow at the edges near the earstems. Then it eventually got darker red, the purple-red you speak of, and that got away from what it looked like in the original movie. Now it's just orange-red or just orange like Fire was when it came out.
