it mystifies me that any company would object to people reusing their ads in a worship-like manner...

Seems like we have quite a collaboration of talent on this site so I'll stay out of the technical discussions, but I would love to include a paragraph about the Japanese Exclusives when we get to that stage.

So what shall we start with, some rough drafts, info? Or finalize the table of contents.

Should I create a new section where we can post pages or content.

A new section for posting stuff would seem a good idea Dann, so long as we can keep it relatively organised.

I'd say we would be better starting with a good table of contents in the first instance and then get the material together to fill it with.

The seperate section sounds like a good idea as the e-mail account can only be used for so much. A seperate section would allow everyone access to the development process.
Is it possible to divide it into two sub-sections for design/layout and written work?

One thing I would like to add is that as the work will be spread, we should be able to get a rough draft up and running pretty soon. The problems may come if we start to analyse it to death and disagree on things. It may be a good idea if we can assign each participant a piece and leave the visual and/or linguistic styling to that one person and only bring up any factual errors or ommisions. We might be here for a long time otherwise.

As always this is just a thought.

PS,

so far the following people have mailed and signed on:

Ryan
Bob
Bong
John Heins
Fred
Sparra

There are a few people such as Dann and Mike for who I assume it goes without saying that they will be participating.

I just thought it may be a bit presumptious to assume that everyone who posts agreeing with the idea is automatically willing to give up their time to work on it.

Maybe we could all just put in a one word post in this thread to say you are "in" instead of sending a mail to the oakleybook account. I just thought that would be a good idea to collect data on participants, skills and ideas until we have a more permanent resource to use.

On a final note:

I'm in!!!

Yes, without saying, I'm in of course. I think the rule of thumb should be: if you don't speak up and contribute, don't complain about the final result. Everyone should feel free to contribute, even if it's not directly. Once we get close to finalizing pages, we can cast votes and then make the page permanent and then move on. I'll work on creating a testbed section for designs and whatnot, and restrict access to just us. Give me a little while to work on that, since my afternoons will be spent on some school and real life work.

Okay, after a whole day's hard work (at work) I'm ready for you all to test the content manager. Please check it out at http://www.o-review.com/coffee/ and let me know what you think, and things that could be added. Once we're comfortable, I'll clear out what's there and we'll start fresh.

what program should we make standard? The 3 page article that your using was done in Quark, which I still have the original files for. The other 2 file were done in Aperture. I also have some Illustrator files + some other O type things on my site.

Well you said Aperture doesn't import other layout programs, which makes things a bit harder to share the task of creating designs, but if that's what we need to use for the Apple publishing thing to work, then so be it. If people create a layout in something, and then we just split it into layers and rebuild it in the final product.
