I decided to change the lenses and icons on my new Fat Cat Blue Camos.
First,I dismantled the Blue Camos;

Then bought some Cream/Gold iridium Fat Cats;

Then swapped everything around,to leave a pair of Cream/Grey(with grey logos);

And Blue Camo/Gold Iridium with gold logos);

What do you all think?

That came out very nice.

And why do I now like the Fatcat's. When something comes out, I coudl care less, than once you can't buy them anymore, I start craving a collection.

Nice job Lee! How difficult was it to get those logos out of the earstems? Didn't require too much brute force to extract them I hope!

My first pair of BC FCs and a few others I've seen in store have had the logo already lifting out of the groove it's placed into as it the stickers were flat and not curved to go with the stem. I'm sure it's super easy to ge tthem out.

Lee, that's real nice looking. It's whAt I'd love to do with the Polished Black and Cream pair if I could afford to run out and just grab the 2 of them together. Very nice. Oh, I forgot to grab the serial from mine but I'll get it.

The blue camo / gold fat cats look awesome Lee!

And the white / black (or grey) combo on any model always looks nice, I think.

Nice work, Lee. I want to do the same with a Matte Black/Grey and Whiskey/Bronze, but I would then scratch off all the brown stuff on the Whiskey frame. That would leave me with a Matte Black/Bronze/Gold logo and a Crystal Clear/Grey/Gunmetal logo.

Thanks everyone.
Adam,
Like Phil said,the logos come out pretty easy,there similar in design to a car badge decal,only the adhesive is nowhere near as strong,so its just a case of using a needle, and a bit of patience.......

Ed,
The Crystal Clear/Grey/Gunmetal logo sounds a sweet idea.

very very nice Lee. they both look great... the Gold gives the Blue Camo that extra edge, and the logo on the Cream frames has a whole lot more contrast than the original gold... cool!

How about doing away with the Earstems altogether! Double stick tape the frames to your nose & glue the Logos to your head Or better yet tattoo the logos on your head...that would actually look kinda cool.

Well, I just won another pair of Matte Black/Grey Cats on eBay last night (want to keep my original pair as-is). Now I just need to find a Whiskey pair so I can try my own version of Lee's little project.

Anyone have a Whiskey Cat they don't need anymore?

Well, thanks to Bill R. (zev5740), I now have an extra Whiskey/Bronze 'cat with the brown fade already scratched off!

I'm finally ready to do my own version of Lee's little project. Hopefully I'll have time to start after work today. I'll make sure to take some before and after pictures. I hope mine comes out as nice as Lee's.

OK, here's how it went:

Started off with a stock Matte Black/Grey Fatcat and an already somewhat customized Whiskey/Bronze Fatcat with the brown fade coating already scratched off (thanks again to zev5740 for doing the hard work).

The Black pair suffered from the early production "lens rattle" that was experienced by some on the forum. I got them on eBay, and since they were an extra pair for this project, I didn't really care too much. I found out at HQ that the lens rattle is a lens problem (lenses cut too small), not a frame problem. Since I got this pair on eBay, they wanted to charge me $29 to replace the lenses. Nope. I had another idea... but more on that later.

Anyway, I popped out all the lenses and carefully pried off the icons using a pin per Lee's expert tutoring. Here's a picture of the clear frame with nothing on it:

I ran into a little snag with the gunmetal icon on one side of the Matte Black frame. The metal icon is just a "shell" over a plastic substrate with foam adhesive, not a solid metal piece. While trying to remove it, the shell popped off, leaving behind the brittle green plastic and adhesive still stuck to the frame. I managed to get it all off and put back together with the shell. After I stuck the icon to the Clear frame, I noticed that it was pulling up at the edge. I must have warped it while trying to remove it. I ended up popping off the shell again trying to take it off the Clear frame.

That actually made it easier to "curve" the icon so that it would remain flush with the earstem. Thankfully, the shell stuck back onto the substrate. I hope it stays that way.

After that, it was pretty straightforward. Here are the new Fatcats:

Crystal Clear/Grey with Gunmetal Icon

Matte Black/Bronze with Gold Icon

Now, back to the lens rattle. I tried a really simple and cheap solution: Elmer's white glue. Basically all that needs to be done is to fill up the extra space between the lens and the lens channel in the frame. I figured a bead of glue on the outer edge of the lens would do the job and be outside my field of view. White glue is also pretty harmless and shouldn't cause any permament damage if I need to get it off the frame or lenses. So far it seems to be working. I'll have to wait and see if it holds up under normal wear and tear.

That's it!

You go all out for doing a project. I think the new looks are sweet. I really like the clear frame, that one looks the best I think. Good Job and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Lee, I agree with you. Hey Phil, you should swap lenses and icons between your Matte Black and Tortoise 'cats.
