a question about serial #s on boxes related to serial #s on x metals:

So that bottom right number on the barcode part of the label shows the serial number of the glasses right? IE my Romeos are 008904 on the frame, and the number on the label is A08904. My question is, why do they replace the first number of the serial number (in my romeos case it was the first 0) with an A?

My polished/blue iridium juliets dont have a serial number on the frame, but the box label says A33742. In this case, since they dont have a number on the frame, they were more recently produced and are likely in the hundred thousands, but since that first digit is replaced by an A, I can never know exactly what the serial number for them would have been. JB133742? JB633742? That kind of really bugs me.. whats the point oakley why??? =(

The serial on your Juliet would then be JB033742A. I don't know why the letter replaces the first 0 on the box but if it was on the Juliet it would read as above, Juliet code, add 0, serial number, letter moves to the end. Why, I don't know. But that's the pattern of all teh Juliet serials at my work.

Don't know. Don't know the real reason behind the As and Bs either other than maybe generations. My serial-less Juliet is J071738B according to the box.

I think part of why they've decided to discontinue the serial numbers on most X-metals is due to the confusion it'll cause by such occurances.

I know we've discussed the hell out of this, but even though the S/N may not be a deal breaker, i think we can all agree it's still a very important part of the X-metal line in general. With that said, why do Ebay sellers never list the S/N's on their auctions? Even the one's that say that they're Oakley collectors or fanatics?? I mean, it's so simple! Just add it to the description! It's not going to hurt the auction. How many of you have sent the seller a question asking what the S/N is?

I've seen a handful of auctions in the past that do list serials, but you're right, Tick. Most sellers typically make no mention of serials.

I even emailed one seller asking about the serial number and they still didn't tell it to me. "The serial number will only be shared after the winning bidder has been contacted" - What kind of crap is that?

Good point Rick (nice name by the way) it also happen to me a while ago, I e-mailed the seller for the serial, but this one never replied to me.

I did not bid on his item because of that.
