i picked up Oasis' latest album "Don't Believe the Truth" last week but didn't listen to it yet. supposedly it's their best album since "What's the Story Morning Glory."

i also need to pick up the latest Gorillaz and Coldplay (even though i think "Speed of Sound" is kinda average, hopefully the rest of the album is better), and The Tears.

finally picked up "Singles" by Travis and "This Is Music: The Singles" by The Verve, which is odd because i'm a big fan of both bands.

New Foo Fighters "In Your Honor" kicks ass!! The rock album is awesome, the acoustic is also good if you like to chill.

I want to see these guys live again.

Listening to NIN 'With Teeth'. Some good stuff there I think. Not overblown like The Fragile but no Downward Spiral either. I give it an 'OK'.

Also Mylo, 'Destroy Rock and Roll'. I really like this one; a good summer CD that I'll keep playing in the fall.

A few Bloc Party singles, etc. etc.

Yeah - K-Os is coming to NL this summer but I doubt I'll get out to see him :(

I hear a lot about the new Gorillaz, maybe I'll check it out.

Bong - I wasn't terribly impressed with Coldplay's X&Y album, apparently it grows on you, but I've only listened through it once so far. Keane's second album is coming on nicely now though, hopefully it will be mega.

Wasn't too impressed with 'With Teeth' either. Some good songs, some okay. Haven't played it since, which isn't a good sign. I'll agree with EC, it's okay. It's no Downward Spiral, and certainly no Pretty Hate Machine or Broken.

The only NIN album I have is "the Fragile" and I really like it. Should I suss out 'Downward Spiral' if I really like 'The Fragile'?

Fave songs from memory- La Mer, No You Don't, there are more, I can't remember track names.

If you like The Fragile, get With Teeth. DWS, is a bit more aggressive and harsh, but you'd probably like 'Hurt'. Johnny Cash did a nice cover of that too which is worth checking out. The live album is a good production too.

I find Downward Spiral the best 'artistically' if that makes any sense. I also find it hard to listen to nonchalantly because it's so emotionally intense.

True, it's best to actively listen to it. PHM is my personal Fav.

i've never given Nine Inch Nails the time and effort they deserve. i had cassettes of Pretty Hate Machine (i remember buying this and Ministry's Twitch at the same time) and Broken, and The Downward Spiral on CD... but i have no idea what happened to the two cassettes as they disappeared a long time ago. from what i remember Pretty Hate Machine was kinda spartan sounding and very synth based, while Broken became this distorted wall of noise that was perfected on The Downward Spiral. i remember "Wish" was played all the time on modern rock/college radio when it first came out.
speaking of cover versions, i really like NIN's version of Joy Division's "Dead Souls," it really does the song justice; and IIRC NIN's version of Gary Numan's "Metal" was really good as well. Industrial bands love old skool Gary Numan... Marilyn Manson did a cover of "Down in the Park" and Fear Factory famously did a version of "Cars."

Bong - I wasn't terribly impressed with Coldplay's X&Y album, apparently it grows on you, but I've only listened through it once so far. Keane's second album is coming on nicely now though, hopefully it will be mega.

thanks for the info Tim. personally, i wasn't terribly impressed with A Rush of Blood to the Head either... after all they hype. i still think it's quite an average album, nowhere near Parachutes.

i've got high hopes for Keane's sophomore album... Hopes and Fears is one fine, flawless debut and hopefully they can make something even more extraordinary. so many sophomore efforts have been a letdown for me lately, especially Starsailor's Silence is Easy and Coldplay mentioned above.

I thought you might like the Dead Soul's cover given your old school gothpunk tastes. I love Fear Factory, so I've listened to Cars quite a bit. 'Metal' was on the Fragile remix CD, which I like much better than the actual album.

heh... i guess i've always been a bit of a goth. i was never fully into the whole goth scene though, just some of the music... The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, etc. hardcore goths would even debate if these bands are really goths to begin with (heh... mostly Christian Death fans!). anyway, a current workmate of mine (we were classmates back in college) used to be so scared of me because i would walk around campus in a long black duster overcoat (which i ditched around the time of the Columbine incident cos i would get a bit of flack for it) or a black leather jacket, with long black hair, dark glasses, and headphones. now she thinks i'm quite normal now she's got to know me... some friends of mine still think i'm a bit goth.

I ditched the black overcoat after Columbine too. And KMFDM got the blame for the whole thing too.

Speaking of which, when I walked into HQ, they started playing an ominous KMFDM song. That was a good entrance.

Goth done well is good, but it seems to be adopted by too many High schoolers who don't shower.

kids (High Schoolers) these days dye their hair jet black, listen to Marilyn Manson and AFI and think they're goth when they don't know who Bauhaus are... sheesh. it's like kids these days listen to Blink 182 and Green Day and think they're punk... "i don't know who the Sex Pistols are, who's David Bowie? who's Iggy Pop?"

this has got to be the wettest Glastonbury yet. every year there's always reports of mudslides and slinging, but this is ridiculous. looks like great fun! i will attend a Glastonbury Festival once before i die...

anyway, lately i have not stopped listening to The Tears' debut album... founding Suede members Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler are the best songwriting team since Morrissey/Marr.

Am I the only one who listens to jazz? Or Phish? Or Bela' Fleck, or Mophine? I feel so alone!
