I don’t recall if there’s been a thread on here about this, but I’ll start one anyway.
What products did you initially dislike but learned to like as time went on?
For me:
1. C Six: I mostly didn’t like the C Six when it was first introduced. I’ve always liked the engineering aspect to it but didn’t like to aesthetics of it. I’ve learned to appreciate it as time went on. I still wouldn’t wear it, but I do appreciate its place in Oakley history and as a collectible in the hobby.
2. M Frame/Blade/Razor Blade: I previously didn’t appreciate the M Frame/Blade/Razor Blades, which is odd since the first Oakley eyewear I ever got (as hand-me-downs in the late ‘80s) was the Blades. Still, like the C Six, I’ve learned to appreciate their form as art, their high performance functionality, and their place in Oakley history.
3. Watches: I grew up loving mechanical watches. When message boards hit the big time in the ‘90s and more and more people started discussing all ranges of topics, I kinda developed the snobbery that comes along with the hobby as well (ie. Anything without mechanical movements are trash). I’ve always thought Oakley’s watches are novelty watches; great for the brand collectors but not for the real enthusiast. I still think that, but I’ve learned to love how cool and absolutely unique Oakley watches are even if they are not collector grade timepieces.
4. Frogskins: A clone of the Wayfarer, I only developed a love of them when they got re-issued in 2007. While I don’t find them interesting as collectibles anymore, I think they look great on most people and I might even wear a pair if the mood strikes every so often.
