Funny to have this Knives thread pop up. For the holidays, I decided to gift all the men in my family a decent EDC knife, and ended up discovering Spyderco as a brand. The past few weeks, I’ve found myself falling down the Spyderco rabbit hole and creating the need for a few myself.

Looks great, Ben. Which model is that? I must admit, although my interest is peaked, my practical need and application of knives is a major shortfall. My job certainly doesn't demand it, not much of an outdoorsman, and the clips are bit lost on me since they seem geared towards jeans (maybe cargo pants); and I'm either wearing slacks at work or shorts at home. So all the wonderful different blade steels and handle materials that have me intrigued, are all put to the rigorous test of keeping up with amazon packages for the most part.

All that to just convey I'm a complete knife wimp, and I think I'm finding a 3" blade is likely the longest I'll ever need or feel comfortable with (particularly living in relatively suburban liberal Seattle area). But I am smitten enough to already have 3 Spyderco blades, with a few more on order or justifying adding to cart.

It's a first run "Civilian". I've had it for years and recently found it again while moving and unpacking.

Does that sort of blade tip have a name, and what's its practical use?

Dang it. The forum ate my reply.

oogie, I'm a newbie at this as well. I scooped up some cheap knives but then I fell hard for Cold Steel. I just got my second blade the other day, the Spartan. I'm enjoying it.

Damn. What a start.

I decided to pause the knife buys for now. I got into it when I saw the cheap blades and then I don't feel fulfilled lol. I need to see what I really want and like and go on from there. I can see another CS in the future, though.

I talked about United Cutlery before in another thread, but I forget where. Simply put: poor quality but really cool designs. Some of my favourite lines is Samurai 3000 and the Blade movie stuff. Another favourite is the Steel Apocalypse collection. I recently was able to get the Dregon X-10 from that line:

In other knife news, I picked up a Shun Kaji 8-Piece Knife set recently as well:

Just arrived today. This model (Spyderco Native 5) has become a favorite of mine, and I finally pulled the trigger on this version. Most of Spyderco’s carbon fiber handles are a laminate over G10, but a handful are full carbon fiber. This is a Fluted Carbon Fiber, linerless handle. Being the first full cf handle I have, the look and feel is pretty amaze-balls.
