Besides my Oakley collection I also used to collect knives. And my kitchen knives are really sweet. Here is one of my favourites, the Shun Taiyo Kiritsuke.

Cool to see other knife collectors in the house. I collect knives too, but mine are mostly automatics like these though.

Nice, Robert!
My collection used to be about 110 knives. Started to sell some to buy Oakleys instead... 😏
Just selling off my Cold Steel Custom Series San Mai folders. Interested?

Thanks for the offer, but the only cold steel I would really be interested in would be an Arc Angel. I'm really starting to thin out my collection of knives for Oakley's too.

Being a chef I love using Zwilling heckles knives, we have a Zwilling outlet here where I live, even current stock is cheap. Have you seen the 1731 collection? Stunning £2000 for that set or 899 from the outlet! Love Zwilling, German steel is the best imo!

If I did more cooking, I'd love to have a nice knife set, but if I'm going to buy things that will just look cool being displayed, I may as well get more glasses.

I did finally pick up my first decent one with the Nirk Tighe.

This became my Everyday Carry, which I'm quite sure isn't legal at all, but it works. As much as I don't need a new hobby, I would like to get an automatic, and a balisong. A local watch shop has the Benchmade 42 and 51, both at around $350, which I know is the general scalpy price these days, but I might opt for a Microtech Tachyon II instead.

Nice, guys!
Tim, german steel is good. Almost as good as Swedish steel! ;-)
I do love my Japanese Damascus blades though! And i think i am more fond of the Japanese blade shape as well. I like the cutting stroke more than the chopping that comes with the more curved european blades!

Dann, Benchmade is always a good choice!!

People who are prone to addiction often have multiple addictions. So it makes sense that avid collectors collect more than one thing or things. Some people say that collecting is like an addiction. I'll let everybody decide for themselves. ;-)

In terms of collecting knives, I'm partial to Spyderco. They offer almost as much variety in shapes, colors, and sizes as Oakley does! This makes collecting easy, as you can be tempted to acquire all the color-ways in a particular model line. Good fun!

For sure. I've collected random things since I was a child, from Stamps, to Coins, to stupid things like buttons. I didn't even like half the stuff. Once I was able to buy things, it just got crazy and my only saving grace these days is the ability to not get things in the first place as I have a terrible time letting go of anything. I also hate clutter, so that's a terrible combination.

So true, Roland.
Collecting is hazardous... And addictive!

Spyderco is a really great brand! And the also make some nice fixed blades! The Warrior is a classic!

Dann, if u have the opportunity to pick up a benchmade 42, u should jump on it. Impossible to find now, and I know here, they go for probably $400.00-$500.00. 350 is decent. Tachyon II is not bad either.

I should check on that 42. Isn't there a steel version that recently came out vs the Ti.

Model 62 is the most recent. Similar to 42 in all respects except that it's stainless vs the 42 is titanium. Most ppl prefer the 42. It's a classic.

In that case check out the Zwilling Myabi collection and of course the damascus ones, £1000+ for a paring knife, lol! Gorgeous though, maybe one day I shall have a complete set! Haha!

I would love to own a Gyuto from the Hinoura River Jump series of knives one day. I tried them out this past fall, and I was super impressed. Nobody in the neighbourhood will ever beat my tomato cutting abilities again.

In hindsight, it's easy to see that we were born to be collectors and addicts. That said, hating clutter is actually a positive trait for a collector. It drives you to organize your collections with OCD-like discipline. How else would you have come up with the O-Review and its database, Dann?

So true, Roland.

Well, Michael. Collecting knives is hazardous, because they cut. Especially something like a giant Spyderco Warrior. (I like to stick to smaller folders like the Dragonfly.) At least with the Oakley collection, the sunglasses can protect our precious eyes!

I'm working hard not to let my knife or Oakley collections get out of hand. Of course, the risk is that other, new collections will spring up instead. Oh dear! We're doomed!
