Collectors Spotlight - January 2014 - Rubyskull
Age: 35 / montreal, canada
rubyskull: martin g

I have been collecting Oakley for 20 years now. I've always loved the brand, but really began my collecting 20 years ago with the release of the Eye Jacket.

As a huge sports fans, I went to a store to buy some baseball gear, and I saw this beauty in the display. I knew from there she was mine, and that was the beginning of a great love story.

The first pair I bought was a very nice Eye Jacket Gold-X with Gold Iridium, unfortunately I don't own it anymore.

I have two big regrets. The first one is when I had to sell my 24k Juliet, serial 019/750, and selling my Oakley surf board to a great member here but needing money in that period of my life.

I'd really like to grab a signed Ichiro Radar. Maybe not a purchase in the next month, but I really would like to get a C-Six, Jordan Mars Leather and of course the next Ichiro release.

To be honest I have to tell you I have two:

First is my Jordan Romeo with perfect lens, and I have to say my complete Ichiro collection of all six Juliet's and all six Radar's.

I love to go to the O-Store in Montreal. I have a great friend there, and he helps me a lot with my collection.

I do a little custom, but I prefer stock models.
My favorite custom is my Ichiro Silver with text. I've changed the original icon for an anodized blue icon, soooo sick.

Not anything specific, but I try to grab stickers, lanyards, stands, pins and rare microbags.

I love video games, basket ball and baseball. I have a great passion for Michael Jordan

Be patient. When you come on this forum, and you see all those crazy collections, you might feel jealous. I started with one pair as did all of us. Deal are everywhere, and if you're patient, you will build a great collection for yourself. Over time you will make friends and contacts who will help you in your quest to get the collection of your dreams. For myself, my quest was to get all Ichiro's, not a easy one trust me, but with patience and a lot of help I did it.

My family and friends understand and love it. Everyone loves and wears O: my wife, kids, friends. I spread my O-love everywhere.

I had hard time in my life and at some point I had to sell my Jordan Romeo to a great member here. I was so sad about that loss. Many months later I asked him if he still had it and he reponsed, "Yeah, but I'm too scared to wear it because I don't want to damage it". He told me if I wanted it back, I could give him what I paid for it. In a hurry I bought it back and now she's in my tower for good.

I'm a huge and crazy Oakley fan and for with my budget I ahve decided to get quality over quantity. That's why I've sold many pairs to reach my goal to have all of the Ichiro's. I hope you will appreciate my little story.

Nice to hear that you got one of your Crown Jewels back after selling it. That was some luck. Thanks for the writeup.

Very nice, my friend. If I had a son, I might've named him Ichiro!

I love the Oakley black and white Ricky Carmichael MotoX whip Poster. I heard a rumor that all these were collected up by the reps back in the day because of copyright issues with the photo? I have tried to buy the one copy that I actually found at at Bob's Cycle Supply in Minneapolis and they just laughed. They said even paid professional MX riders have tried to purchase it for WAY more than I was willing to pay. If you ever want to get rid of it you know who to contact :) . Awesome collection and some great pieces!

I hadn't heard that story, but I'd be interested to see if anyone else knows more. It's a great shot in any case.
