Collectors Spotlight - September 2012 - dr.flgd
dr.flgd: Anton Sy

Been 18 months now.. I started collecting Oakleys in Nov. 2010.. They were new Juliet X-metal with Ice and Juliet X-metal with Ruby from a local seller..

After purchasing my first two pairs of Juliet X-metal Ice and Ruby in Nov. 2010, I started browsing ebay just for curiosity and found a guy selling a pair of Oakley Mars with a background picture of his Oakley single display tower filled with Oakleys.. I was so impressed with the seller's collection.. Then later saw many real hardcore Oakley collector's pictures of their collection on the internet.. Those pictures inspired me and got me into collecting..

It was a pair of Frogskins in 1993 back at my hometown.. But that did not last long though..

There are few things in the past months, but I try not to think of them as regrets.. I just move on and sleep through them.. I truly believe, everything happen for a reason..

I am not really sure yet.. There are still so many beautiful Oakleys out there that are very tempting and don't have yet..

First, I would say the first two pairs of Juliets that I bought in Nov. 2010.. Those two really helped changed my life.. I used to be a drug addict for 16+ years.. Did not care a thing.. Then one day, I decided to stop (cold turkey).. It wasn't really a walk in the park especially with new kids.. But those two pairs and the later few Oakleys truly helped a lot along the road.. Been sober now since..

Second would be the Zero 0.3 series.. Actually this is my favorite Oakley model.. For it to be 20 years old and still until now, nothing in the World of sunglass sit close to it's unique design.. Truly a gorgeous piece of Art..

Funny.. I remember storing my first few pairs inside a grandfather clock.. Anyway, at first, I was skeptic about buying a display tower.. I was worried about the effect in the long run.. But, eventually came to have one.. and very glad I did.. I now stored them on an Authentic Oakley display towers.. Preferably the Aluminum ones with the Industrial grade look.. Very Oakley like..

I would say Oakley's main Headquarters in Foothill Ranch.. It's actually the only place I have been and always visit.. But, since I am new and mostly or preferably collect the old discontinued Oakleys first, it has always been ebay or local sellers.. It's not easy on ebay as sellers love their Oakleys too and will not settle for low prices.. Not to mention the bidding wars..

I always prefer to leave each pair as new and as stock from Factory as possible.. Not even wore them.. But, lately has been a little different after seeing fellow Oakley friends did some gorgeous customizing.. So, I have been trying out some customizations lately.. I do aim to try and come up same as Oakley standard finish or even better to the smallest detail and use 100% Oakley parts as possible.. I'm leaving the perfect pairs still as is..

Mostly all Oakley stuff.. I have few little sunglasses, watches, sunglass vaults, stickers, stands, posters, bob heads, keychains, hats, headgears, beanies, shoes, etc.. Still hoping to get more in the future..

I'm also starting on Jordan shoes, but everything has just been Oakleys..

It would probably same as other vintage Oakley collectors advices.. To take time, to be patient, to consider what you really want and not the guy next to you, to have fun along the road, to not get burned in the process and to always make wifey happy..

I don't really know nor really sure.. But, I do hope friends and other Oakley enthusiasts appreciate my little small Oakley accomplishment so far..

There are stories in most pairs I have.. Like waking 2 or 3 or 4 am just to bid a rare pair, stopping at the side of the road just to bid an item, driving 2-3 hours to get a rare pair, picking up a nice pairs at midnight from local sellers.. But one score really got me into a little trouble.. I was trying to race with another buyer because the seller told me he was on his way too to pick up a nice item he had for sale.. I got pulled over for driving with incomplete registration (smog pass but DMV did not get the result).. I did get the display tower (it was a new condition steel tower) but I also got a ticket.. I forgot about the ticket and months have pass until the violation reaches $900+..

Nothing really except a huge thanks to THE MOST HIGH, to Mr. Dann Thombs for having me a small part of O-review and to fellow Oakley enthusiast friends for everything in this World of Oakley.. It's been a great run so far..

Awesomeness and humility appear to be some traits in building an amazing collection. Thanks for sharing, Anton. Some incredible items there to make me insanely jealous.

Great spotlight on a fantastic collector's collection.

Nothing to add to what I already said here and there on flickr/facebook pages.
You have an impressive collection. There are so many items to be jealous about in those display case that they could be renamed Sin towers.
