Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red Iridium
Alright, so I've worn these for a few days, and here is my review.
Fit: On the money. Where the old Straight Jacket used to have a nasty 'overhang' at the outside corners of my head (while still looking ok), the New Straight Jacket conforms to it. For me, these are a perfect fit, just like the Flak Jacket. The nosebombs are a welcomed addition, and its nice to have a modern, curvy frame again with earsocks. Very light weight as well.
Style: Lets face it, Oakley is trying to recycle product names from the 90's since they are established names the loyal customer base is already familiar and comfortable with purchasing. That said, these strike very little resemblance to the original SJ and the 2nd gen SJ. The front shape of the orbitals is the only similarity I see. The nosebridge converges and connects very similar to Half-jacket, but not as blunt. Enough with the criticizing, these glasses have lots of potential. This style (shape) is right on with what to expect from Oakley, and can be worn to work or to the beach. White chrome is more or less white pearlescent, but what I think I really like is the FMJ red on the ear stems and red icons. The ear stems have subtle, but distinctive definition. They appear to be two piece, but its not something you'll want to pry apart to customize. I kinda wish that they had lower orbital spoiler accents like my fiancee's Speechless frames.
Colorsways: I'll say it again, there is lots of potential for this frame, however, its up to Oakley to come up with some more exciting color combinations. White chrome/+Red aside, whats the point of having two piece earstems if its going to only be one color, or two very similar colors? I'd say that Cinder Red is my 2nd favorite color, but I'd really like to see a navy blue and a metallic green eventually as well.
Quality of Finish: The FMJ finish is 99.5% flawless. There are 1-2 tiny, 1/2-tip-of-a-pin paint run type flaws, but nothing worth complaining over, since that would mean having to wait another month for a different replacement with the same type of flaws. Yes, this has happened to me before. I imagine that no FMJ finish is 100%. The +Red is 100% flawless, with no iridium runs, bubbles, and/or factory pitting/overspray...yes, this has happened to me too. The hydrophobic coating makes the lenses feel like your buffing them with silk, rather than with a glorified t-shirt material. At one point, cleaning bags used to be close to silk until they decided to have them made in China. I probably will never remove the lenses for cleaning or customization due to the peeling-prone FMJ. Hopefully, the finish will stand up to sweat.
Overall, I'll go ahead give these 5 stars for being a fresh, non-fashion, comfortable, o-matter frame, which I'm sure lots of people will end up liking.
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: Positive Red
Oakley has done well with this re-release. The original straight jacket was pretty good, but this is even better. They have added unobtanium nose pieces and new technology with the hydrophobic lens coating. You can sweat all day with these and they will repell sweat and rain and won't slide off of your nose. The eye coverage is fantastic and leaves no space for light to get in between your face and these shades. They have re-designed the looks and given them a sharp and edgy design. I think the best part about these is this AWESOME color combo. I am happy to see that Oakley is releasing some of the older bright flashy colors. I think that this color combo will look good on any Canadian.
Frame: matte rootbeer
Lens: bronze polarised
Got these when in Dubai as had i misplaced my pair of half jacket and have to say a really smart comfortable pair of glasses these are my favourite pair I THINK always wear them when heading with wife as there not OTT and they have a clean smart look
Frame: Dark Grey
Lens: Fire Polarized
This frame is also available with Fire non-polarized although it is not listed here.
I like the frame very much and it fits good. The combination of Dark Grey with Fire looks more interesting than Silver / Fire. Also the black Unobtanium earstems and O-icon-elements create a nice contrast.
I prefer the Fire lense on a single lens frame where you see a bigger color sprectrum but it still looks good in the Straight Jacket.
The New Straight Jacket II is a very good follow-up to the classic version. Unlike the Eye Jacket 2.0 and 3.0, here Oakley was able to create something modern in the tradition of the old version! The Minute 2.0 is also a good example in my opinion. The Straight Jacket is still bigger than the Minute and the choice for boys.
Frame: Blood, White Chrome
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium, +Red Iridium
Lives up to the straight jacket name. The only complaint I have is that they don't come in the color ways of the originals. The blood frame is awesome and is similar to cinder red. White chrome is also very attractive but I am wary of FMJ frames as I do not want it to go the way of my original straight jackets.
Frame: Pearl White
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized
These are my favorite Oakley's I've owned. Have Polarized square wire's, Polarized Radar's, Polarized X Squared, and Polarized Gascan's. Fit & feel are perfect for my bigger face. Just wish I could get this color combo still since mine have taken a lil' beating over the years.
Frame: Ducati, Dark Grey with Red
Lens: Black Iridium
I also own a white chrome/+ red straight jacket and posted the review below, but I forgot to include this review. So in a way, I'm kind of like the previous two posters who stated "One to Stock, and One to Rock!!!" lol
I'll just speak to the color combination since I spoke about fit in my white chrome review. I do believe this pair is a more sleek look than the white chromes. They are not as "loud" but they still command a glance from passersby. So on a day when I don't feel like being too flashy, I wear these babies. The gray and red go well together. The black iridium lens protect really well from the bright sun during the day. Add to the fact that these are now discontinued and very rare, makes me appreciate that I was able to pick one up.
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: + Red Iridium
I tried these on in one of Orlando's many O Stores, and though I didn't immediately buy them then and there, I knew I was hooked. I waited a month or so, and was debating between this pair and the gray/+ Red Scalpels. I decided on these, and boy, am I glad I did.
After opening my O box on the day it arrived, I was giddy like a kid on Christmas morning. The white box and MF bag it came with was very fitting. The glasses themselves is just a superb color combination. White chrome, with metallic red O icons, then of course that gorgeous +Red lens. The glasses looks so good on their own, even just sitting on a desk. Putting them on though, I can't help but look at myself in the mirror! Simply put, these glasses look COOL... we all have to admit. They're a head turner. They protect well from bright light and they make a statement as well. No fogging issues. Fit is superb. Once on the face/head, the unobtainium socks and nose piece hold it firmly in place.
Another homerun Oakley! Please continue to make color combinations like this, couple with unwavering quality work.
Frame: Jet Black
Lens: Fire Iridium Polarized
The New Straight Jacket is one of Oakley's best overall models. I originally owned a Gray/Fire Polarized and Jet Black/G30 of this model and one day realized "wait....I wonder what they would look like with the lenses and frames switched". Oh...my...gosh. What a difference!!!! The Fire in the Black frames make these so incredible to look at (and the Gray with G30 looks better than black because they are both somewhat muted).
The fit is excellent. I shave my hair down to practically nothing a couple times a week and I can feel the rubber on the earstems gripping my head behind the ears (in a "not going to fall off your head" good way). They have excellent coverage from the fairly large orbitals and fit very well to my face without fogging up accept in the rarest of circumstances. The entire package is very light and you do forget they are on your face after awhile (vs. something like the Juliet or X Squared which, though comfortable...you always know are there).
From a styling perspective, you could make the argument (and I feel this way sometimes) that the design is ALMOST a little bland, particularly when viewed dead on from the front. From that frontal view I get the sense that they are no more distinctive than $10 generic "jacket" syle glasses. From the sides, there are angles and curves that stand out, you can see the Icon and everything is distinctive and screams Oakley (as any good Oakley should). I would say the profile on these is a cross between the flat front of the Flak and the very sharply angled front of the Half (though that angling of the Half comes with a price that the designers never seem to have been able to work around) and I think, again, that they look the most aggressive from the side vs. front.
As I always point out in my reviews, some Oakley's I think really need sharp contrast between the lens color and frame color to help create definition and help the design elements jump...this is one of those designs (vs. say, Juliet where I feel that Black with Black and Ducati Red elements is THE combo for that design because its so unique). Black with Ice, Fire, Ruby are probably best. The White with Positive Red is another. I would not advise Black/Black etc as that will really wash everything out.
Overall...an excellent update to a classic Oakley design that is a 4 star from a design perspective and a 5 star once value to design and fuctionality are factored in. The style isn't for everyone (but then what Oakley design truly is for everyone...that defeats the purpose of wearing them) but if you like it, give them a shot..you will not be dissapointed.

Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red Iridium
I bought these after seeing a girl on the street wearing them up on her head, and saw the familier reflection of a +Red lens!
I have always been a fan of the +Red lenses and I have a pair of the older Eye Jackets with this lens. But this version with the White Chrome frame is a really cool combination. You get the grey look with them on, and people looking at you get a really cool effect in your lenses.
I am a fan of the Oakleys that aren't an over the top design, and for me this pair are real flashy without being too out there! I use them for driving as well, but I have to try to stop looking at myself in the mirror behind the wheel!
Fit wise, they are terrific, and my friends say that they look like they were custom made for my face! They are comfortable to wear, and the grey behind the lens helps relax your eyes.
As far as I'm concerned, it is the coolest Oakley release ever! Like a previous poster, I got 2 pairs as well (yep one to keep stored and one to rock!)
Frame/Lens: Blood/G40 Transition and Shadow Camo/+ Red iridium
One if the best new frames. Great custom options. Very classic Oakley styling. Not too expensive so that if you go completely Gonzo with them on you can replace the lenses or the whole thing. Mine are standing up to every test I give them.
Frame: Grey
Lens: Chrome Iridium
These are awesome frames!
I'm not a fan of the 1st & 2nd generation SJ's but these take on a whole new look. I love both the Monster Dogs and Pups, and these look like they took the best of both of those and merged them together. Very sturdy frames with great coverage. The unobtanium nose pieces are a nice touch. I sometimes have a problem with my Fives Squared sliding down my nose when I use sunscreen, but not these. They're also super comfortable.
Frame: Blood
Lens:VR28 Black Iridium
One of my all time favorite pairs and along with Night Camo MD the only pair I bought 2 of...great coverage and one of my 5 favorite lenses with Gold, Ruby,Ice and Black Irid. Everything thats been said positive about the fit is spot on. I have small to Med Face and these fit perfect..maybe even better than the Minutes because of Unobtanium
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red Iridium
What can I say, these are so good I had to get 2, one to rock, one to stock!
The fit is great for my medium size head. The unobtanium on both nose and ears is nice and comfy. They are light enough to wear all day and stay put in rough conditions. The only part about fit that isn't perfect for me is that I have a slightly wide nose, so they sit just a smidge higher than I would prefer, but I'm really nit picking here. The hinges feel nice and tight and the unob contacts the frame when closed, so no paint scuffing.
Frame styling is sweet in my book. Not so over the top as to make people say WTF, but very Oakley. The orbitals provide great coverage, almost as good as MD's for me, and the ear stems have some nice touches like the different colored lugs and a slightly scar/valve like shape with some MD thrown in for good measure.
This colorway is freakin fantastic! If you don't mind some attention that is, not exactly subtle. I am normally not a fan of white frames, but the white chrome is awesome. It has a silverish, shiny, pearlescent quality that really makes it pop. Then to combine it with the red icons, lugs, and +red lenses is just hot in my book.
Speaking of lenses, this is my first pair of +red lenses and I really dig'em. They are a slightly blue-ish grey base, so they are very pleasant to wear. They are also 15% tint, so they work well in most of Seattle's weather, from overcast to full on sun. The Iridium is pretty awesome looking as well going from the center, blue/purple/red/orangish at the edges depending on the light and angle. The hydrophobic coating is treating me good as well. The other day I was walking through some really misty rain and it didn't leave any water spots on the lenses, sweet. Easy to clean too.
It all adds up to a really sweet looking and functional pair of thermonuclear shields.
Frame: White Chrome/Black
Lens: Black Iridium
I got this pair on eBay. The guy I bought them from a guy who bought two pairs, took the red "intermediate" section and the +red lenses, and swapped them with the parts from a (presumably) all-black pair. Thus, I have white/black, which is my perfect combination for Straight Jackets. To be honest, I doubt I would have ever bought a pair if I hadn't found this very swapped/custom creation. Now, they rank among my favorites. They fit very well, as did the previous generations of Straight Jackets. There is no light-leakage. Having nose pads fixed the only fundamental problem of the other generations- slippage from activity or sweat. My only "complaint" is in regards to the reworked shape. Straight Jackets had orbitals and arms that resembled, with their constant sweeping outline, the arms of a straight jacket, only wrapping around the wearer's head, and not around their back. This incarnation, with the bladelike arms, while being very aesthetically pleasing, is slightly incongruous with the models' namesake and previous generations.
Frame: polished black
Lens: black iridium
i was at the Oakley O store at the Headquarters today looking for a good pair of dark shades and at first had my sights set on the Gascans. however after trying those, the monster dogs, pups, minutes, etc this was the best pair that fit me as well as the styling was to my liking. quality and fit are excellent as always. i tried the asian fit version but i felt the nose piece was too big for me (i am asian too). we have another winner!
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red Iridium
As soon as this model came out, I had to have this color. I absolutely love the combination and it fits very well also. I find that it gives good coverage and the Positive Red is a great all around lens that can stand up to sunny days as well as cloudy ones. All in all, I'm very pleased with my Straights.
Frame: Jet Black / Chrome Oakley Symbols
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized
These are my first pair of Oakley's and I knew they wouldn't be my last when I first tried them on. I originally when out looking for Flakjackets, but when I saw the aggresive styling on the Straight's, my mind was changed instantly.
I can't say enough about these amazing glasses. With the polarization it's like seeing the word in high definition. They're great on the water by cutting the glare, and there's no chance they're coming off your head with the new nose bombs.
A true testament to their durability is the fact that they were stepped on by my 200 lb friend and came out with only a small scratch on the bottom of the lense. I believe the detachable arms that came off first saved them from any large scare damage.
I know for a fact that these won't be my last pair of Oakley's. If they ever broke, I'd be out the door in an instant to get another pair. Well worth the money ($235 CND), best pair of glasses I've ever owned.
Frame: Blood
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium
Wow. What a treat these are. It's the kind of sunglasses I forget I'm wearing. The kind you can literally wear all day and feel comfy in. This is the experience I paid for when I plunked down my cash for a set of Bloods. This is my first VR28BI, and I love it's versitility too in a wide range of lighting conditions. These Straights are great for longer lashed folks too. Stylish, comfy, not annoying, extremely wearable...what more can a boy ask? I got nothing bad to say about these.
Frame: Grey, Shadow Camo & White Chrome
Lens: Chrome, G40 Transitions & +Red Iridium
Somewhat of a timid design which is more than made up for in comfort along with frame and lens color options. I can't stress enough just how comfortable they are to wear which makes them great for wearing for long lengths of time. I also love that these come with the Hydrophobic lenses so that if I do wear them for a long time, I don't have to take them off and clean them all that much - if at all.
Frame: Grey Smoke
Lens: Black Iridium HDO
My best Oakleys so Far!! great fit, well built and great looking! not too big, great for a medium face!
tried fives and they were too small and too light. tried flak jackets and the fit was not for me.
These are perfect and the HDO lenses are so clear.
Nice work Oakley!!
They fit in the Oakley Large Vault very well (with bag)
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: + Red Iridium
Striaght Jackets are good frames. The fit is comfortable & They look pretty sick. I would just like to have some red es socks to throw on. The design is great. I love the 2 tone stem. I've had these for a few months. The only worry I have is that the frame might start peeling on me. So far everything has been good.
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red Iridium
The New Straight Jacket II in White Chrome/+Red is the culmination of one of the most heralded color combos matched with one of Oakley's greatest sunglass designs. Lightweight, durable (encased in the White Chrome FMJ), and almost form-fitting, the shades provide all the protection you'd expect for those with medium or larger profiles. Adding to the legacy of the New Straight Jacket, the IIs not only maintain the unobtainium earsocks, but also incorporate unobtainium nosebombs as well. In sum, these shades provide fit, functionality, and aesthetics into a single, unified form.
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red
The perfect combination. Truly striking and attention-grabbing. The white chrome is beautiful by itself like radar blue iridium but now it feels it was made specifically for +red.
The +Red on this is incredible too. Its purplish in the center which on an M Frame +Red is considered the rare version. So kudos to Oakley. It looks dangerous when people look at you but it looks real calm looking through it. I think the base is warm grey as it has a bluish hue to it.
Reeealll nice... I think it might look sharp with a white suit and red tie. Personally I think this is the model to have for the straight jacket and will withstand the test of time. Don't believe me? Check eBay for this baby's price 5 years after its discontinued. heh
Frame: Shadow Camo
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized
Icons: Polished Chrome
Its a good thing I waited and it was offered in Oakley Custom program. The icon makes it stand out while shadow camo makes it look uber-urban military.
Black Iridium Polarized is superb. Really superb in the hot climate we have here. When you're driving, the world seems cool and calm. The moment you take it off you realize that its blazing hot outside. Fantastic lens.
Get a lot of looks due to it being super-new. I actually got an extra set of Asian-fit nosepads just by asking for it and for an extra $3. So it is the same frame design and construction between the standard and asian-fit, including the lens.
Was almost about to purchase shadow camo asian fit g30 and polished black with black iridium polarized separately so i could swap it. Didnt have to now, good thing too.
Its bigger than gascan, maybe the same or slightly bigger than Monster Dog but it fits my asian cranium perfectly. Hydrophobic just makes it superb
Frame: Polished Black
Lens: Black Iridium (Polarized)
As of today, I'm the proud new owner of a pair of Straight Jackets 2.0. Wow, what can I say, it's awesome. I would actually have given it 4.5 instead of 5, cos it doesn't fit my nose that well (I'm Asian - Chinese), and this is the normal fit version; they don't have the polarized lens version in Asian fit. Aside from the nose part, everything else fits relatively tight and snugly, shielding my eyes from the sun and the world around me...lol
I like the new aggressive design, especially the flared temples, that can also be seen on the monster dog/pup and the minute 2.0. It looks unique, cool and i just realized it's also got a functional use to it. It's increased area grips your temples much , much better than say the old straight jackets/minutes. Though I 'm not sure if it would make it hotter to wear (we sweat from our temples as well), especially in my humid climate. All in a great pair of sunglasses, and keeper in my collection, no doubt.
Frame: Polished Black
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized
Great comfortable frame for medium to medium large heads. Good coverage in the lenses. Appears that the nose bombs are attached differently than in the half series and XX's hopefully they won't come off so easy. Good frame.
Frame: Jet Black Limited
Lens:Black Iridium
As I have described on my earlier review applies to this in the matter of fit and comfort. Black is something to have for me because you can wear it with anything, and always classy. Having a numbered version just makes it sweeter. I like some flashy ones(Like the white chrome +red) and I like the toned down classy ones like this one. I highly reccomend the New SJ II for it's wonderful style and comfort.
Frame: White Chrome
Lens: +Red
+ Red is one of the best color lens that Oakley ever made. I like the thicker earstems on the New SJs since it also keeps more light from penetrating in. The combination of white and red has a very commanding presence. Also having the unob nose piece makes it more comfortable.
Frame:White Chrome
Lens:+Red Iridium
Well after a long 4 week backorder wait my straight jackets finally came in and I can happily say it was well worth the wait!!! I never liked the older versions of this model but this new design is just supurb and the color combo is awesome. You will get many stares from people when wearing these bad boys!!! I do wish the +red lenses would have been the red variation but on the plus side they are the rare very dark purple to blue straight on and a purplish pink to red when looked at from angles which resembles the 1st generation ruby lenses of old I want to be re-released but that's another story for another day! I love the hydrophobic lenses too as I won't have to apply it myself like I do with all my other lenses. I did put a small scratch on the inside of the frame where my ring hit the paint so it tends to come off easily as I didn't hit it hard at all.
The fit for me is perfect and the larger/wider sized ear stems give your eye's great side coverage from the sun. They are very lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The unobtanium nose bombs and ear socks are also excellent added features which keep them staying put even when sweating. I'm extremely happy with this purchase and will now be hitting the local o-store and other Oakley retailers searching for this pair with the very red variation +red lenses. Keep the different frame and lens color combinations coming OAKLEY?!?!?!
Frame: Blood
Lens: VR28 Black Iridium
For those that have not seen these...think of a Cinder frame with polished Black icons and accents. Ideal glass for those that want a slightly sportier version of a Monster Dog. Eye coverage is near perfection! While this style doesn't exactly break new ground for Oakley, it is undoubtedly still Oakley--a great design incorporating both fashion and function into a very capable piece. I'm hoping these are here to stay!
