Frame:Jet Black
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized
After my extensive review of the Blue Iridium/White Chrome Radars I think anyone can see that the Radars have quickly become my new favorites. Knowing this fact my wonderful wife bought another pair for me for my birthday. She *tried* to keep it from me, but didn't know which ones to buy (path? pitch? range? it can be pretty daunting to pick the right ones.) So she had me come with her to pick them out. Without further adieu, onto my review:

What more can I say about these that I already haven't said about the blue irid's? I want to highlight some of the differences between the two. For one the Black lenses tint is surprisingly "old school" The tint is less like the Black Iridium on, say, the Juliets and more like the Black Iridium on the Zero .3's. If you are unfamiliar with the differences let me try to summarize, the Juliets or most other models with newer black lenses have a hint of green. The old black irid's have a very cool and more neutral coloration (and I mean "cool" as in color temperature, not "cool" like the Fonz). They seem to be preferred by most, including myself, because of this.

As a result of the more neutral coloration they do not have aberrations in color from the sides to the middle of the lens. For instance depending on which part of the Blue iridium lenses you look through you may see more yellowish tint, perhaps a bit of pink through the side, and persimmon as well. Very trippy in a way that the lens can vary so much in hue just by looking through different parts. If you're not following me, try a pair out at a store and you should notice it right away. In the case of the Black iridium polarized the color is much more even in this respect.

As far as the frames the lack of the FMJ coating makes for a much quieter frame. The FMJ's tend to make creaking noise when flexed. A very small detail in the scheme of things, but none the less for some this may be cause for concern. I find that the fit is consistent between the two.

Any way I wanted to point out that the reason I bought these is because I wanted a darker tint and after reading this: http://www.o-review.com/forum_detail.asp?ID=8110 I decided against ordering just lenses as I would be very paranoid about changing the lenses all the time.

I think anyone that is an avid outdoorsman or sportsman understands that one needs different Shades for different lighting conditions. The Blue irid's are great for low light/medium light conditions and the black pols are great for medium to extremely bright conditions. You can't go wrong with either or, but having both has major advantages.

Frame: metallic red
Lens: + red iridium

i was never a big fan of the mono lens glasses like the m-frame. i decided to try the radar because of all the new technology that went in to there making.

the frame is considerably more flexible then most of the older o mater frames. it seems to conform better to your head and temples with no real pressure points that i have had at times for some of the other o mater. i also like the design of the arms they blend nicely to the lenses. the "vents on the side i think are more of a gimmick but that said it dose give the glasses a different look that is understated but noticeable.

the lenses are great as always the XYZ optics is one thing that Oakley dose great. the interchangeability is a great feature and for a person that only has one pair it would be the one. the hydrophobic coating is another great feature of the lenses that help in keeping them clean and for someone that never takes his glasses of that is a plus.

The glasses are a great light weight flexible pair that feel good and look good with all the right features. It is just to bad that the + red iridium has been discontinued but the rest of the radar line up is just as nice.

Frame: White Chrome
Lens: Blue Iridium
I have played with my Radars for about a month now. I used them extensively in Maui for everything from hanging out on the beach to crashing through waves at high speeds to horse back riding. Let me start by dispelling any potential myths about these. First of all these are not 100% hydrophobic or oil phobic.

They do greatly reduce the amount of water that can collect on them and as an added benefit greatly reduce the effect of oil on the lense. Instead of smudging oils tend to condense into smaller "streaks". This has an effect of reducing the annoyance caused by normal oils collecting on the lense.

As far as water on the lense let me reiterate, these do not eliminate water from collecting completely. What happens is that most water on the lense rolls off. There is a tendency for really small droplets to remain. This has much less effect on your ability to see through the lense than with any other sunglasses I have worn. In other words these lenses are effective, but not perfect.

One thing I would like to add is that because of the fact that you are less annoyed by oil and water you will clean these a lot less. This has the added benefit of less chance to scratch your lenses. Also cleaning off oil and water is significantly easier with the lense coating.

Frame construction is like none other. It definitely shows its "M-frame heritage" with its quasi-hammerstem look, but adds quite a few things that in my opinion are lacking from M-frame. The Radars have a much wider earstem profile which adds a fair amount of grip and surface area which will increase the over all strength of their grip. A fair warning on these is that they are a tight fit. They loosen up a bit over time, but they are not the most comfortable pair if you are wearing for extended periods of time, say 6 hours. That's not to say they are uncomfortable, it's just that I can think of plenty other shades I'd rather wear for that long (please keep in mind that these are sport specific and are intentionally designed to have a snug fit).

The nose-piece is significantly more robust than that of the m-frame giving a bridge from the nose piece to the frame. This has an effect of stabilizing the entire frame rather than allowing it to bounce up and down on your nose. You have two options for the nose piece which also lead to a better fit. If you have a flatter facial profile than you will definitely appreciate this as most common complaint I hear about M-frame is that the fit is poor with more "Asian" faces.

The earstems themselves seem to be attached with a metal rod through top to bottom insuring that they do not break away like the M-frames would if stressed. I can tell the frame is extrodinarily flexible and don't worry that they would break. This also lends itself to a more secure fit.

The most obvious difference between these and the M-frames is the surge port on either side of the earstems. The website says "The aerodynamic design includes surge ports that channel a cooling flow of air, an essential for the heat of competition."

I can say 100% without a doubt that I have no idea if they actually do any of that and I have worn them extensively. Being that they are all of a fraction of an inch thick I have my doubts that a surge port does much of anything, let alone a cooling effect. The only "cooling" effect I got was when people would say "those are cool" perceptions aside, I'm sure Oakley did their homework with the decision to include this rather eclectic feature on these, but I fail to see the real world benefit.

I really give these 4 1/2 stars because the lenses on mine are not coated 100% there is a slight lack of iridium coating on the left portion of the lense which leads to slight color differential from left to right, but it's hardly noticable. Perhaps just a case of first shipment blues. One of the problems of being an early adopter. ***update*** I was able to get the lenses replaced and they have full coverage on the iridium coating and much more even on coloration looking through the lenses as a result. They are now perfect! I now give these 5 stars with no reservations.

All that said I think these a spectacualar follow up to Oakleys famous M-frames. Rather than a step side ways they are a clear step up. How do you follow up the most successful pair of sunglasses on the planet? I think that's the question Jim Jannard and crew asked themselves. Their answer was a loud and proud Radar.

Frame: Anti Freeze
Lens: Jade Iridium

I remember trying the black ones on and thinking these are way too wide for me. Later I saw the anti freeze frogskins and I fell in love with the color but couldn't get my hands on any. So when I saw these I snatched them right up. This frame color is amazing, it reminds me if candy I just want to lick the frame (too far?). The jade lens makes this a true head turner. The first time I wore these out I got so many compliments.

Frame: Radar Path
Lens: Jet Black/Black Iridium Polarized

Lightweight, durable, and comfortable are the three best words to describe this pair. Oakley's latest rendition to the M-Frame family pairs the aesthetics of some of the older-generation model glasses (i.e. Razorblade) with a new design. A soft (shelled) case with an extra nosepiece is also included. In the soft case there's room for an extra lens as well, should you choose to purchase one. The highpoint of these glasses (besides the fact that they're Oakley and provide outstanding optics and visual protection) is their extreme level of comfort/fit. They fit like a glove and the redesigned nosepiece literally feels like a small pillow on the bridge of your nose. Unfortunately, the lens shapes are rather dull compared to what the M-Frames offer... and unless you've got at least a "medium" sized profile, you'll find that the lenses are simply too large - even the Path, which are the smallest of the array. Oakley needs to seriously consider redesigning the lenses and offering some for those of us who have smaller heads. Overall, however, an excellent pair of shades!

Frame: true carbon fiber
Lens: vented black iridium

best all around sports shades. used them for playing grass and beach volleyball. a more updated design from the M frame which is 20 years old. very comfortable fit as well. nose piece fits on me perfectly. i am asian too and do not need the asian fit frame. tried the asian fit version and it turns out that version of the radar sits way too high up on my nose. most other oakley models i have in asian fit like flak jacket, half jacket, and straight jacket. however for the radar path the regular fit is perfect.

waiting for radarlock to come in the custom build option. that will be the next pair for me. B-)

Frame: Radar Path Plasma
Lens: Gold Iridium
They are OK functionally with a few exceptions. First, for cycling, I tend to ride head down in an aero tuck and the frame sits too low - it ends up obscuring my field of vision. I wish the frame came up higher at the top.

My big problems are with the durability. There is a coating or layer of the lens that is flaking off on the inside at the top. The spot is growing and spreading and will be in my field of vision soon. Second, and this is specific to the color frame I chose (plasma), the finish has worn off very easily revealing a non-matching black beneath. I have never had a pair of Oakley's with a painted on finish. They look horrible just from normal use.

Frame: White chrome Radar
Lens: Blue Iridium

Lens are Great, My eyes dont get tired on sunny days, not really hydrophobic. not too happy with the frame, after 3 moths of cycling, the paint started to chip on the nose bridge and top ridge of the lens which is very disappointing, didnt bother with the one year warranty coz i cant ride if i dont have my glasses on. ill buy another radar path, now in matte and jade iridium, but if the paint starts to chip again within a year, i definitely want a replacement.

Frame: Livestrong
Lens: Black Iridium

Awesome sports pair. Ive used these everywhere from sailing on the ocean to rock climbing on cliffs. Light, and a perfect fit that sticks to your head. I use the larger nosepieces to move the lens away from my eyes slightly, which stops my eyelashes touching the lens, and also allows abit more breathability (i had slight lens fog on an extremely humid sunny day whilst climbing when using the low nosepiece). Whilst in the case, the knot of the string on the cleaning bag scratched off the iridium on my lens, which was very annoying as I keep them mint. I guess they are a pair to be used so im not too fussed. top marks from me.

This model is great for intense exercising, it fits tightly, but very confortably. I'm a woman, and I use it for running and cycling, and it really stays in place on my nose and ears. And the lenses stay clear for hours, which is not always the case with me, due to sweat and sunblock lotion.
The lenses are really dark, perfect for bright days, but I also use them on cloudy days and feel fine, my eyes don't get "tired".
A great choice indeed.

Frame: polished black
Lens: black persimmon iridium photochromatic (09-731)

Very happy with the fit, look and comfort of these.... i hardley noticed them on y face, unlike other sunglasses that usually end up hurting at some point. i always loved oakley but never found a pair that sat properly on my face or fitted me as well as these Radar/Path and i also wasn't willing to spend the mullah!!.. as i regularly lose sunglasses. Anyways a new bike made me leap into these and i'm well pleased although the extra cash for the photochromatic/hydrophobic has left me a wee bit dissapointed (hence the dropped rating point) because it doesn't get anywhere near 'black' at full tint and the difference is only just percepible, also on the ride home i got rained on a few times and the lens didn't stay totally clear of water droplets sticking - small raindrops we call 'sma' here in bonnie scotland ;) just stayed put. However, on the ride home i really did feel that these lenses stopped me squinting and are amazingly optically-clear to look thru'. The light conditions were variable overcast, rain, bright sunny spells and thru' leafy-tree covered paths and i felt these did the job. just how 'black' are these supposed to get at full tint?... uncertain and hoped for more anyways....

keen to buy another lens now and thinking of polarised black iridium as i'd really like something that blocks light out when its brilliant sunlight conditions and would cut glare from wet tarmac when i'm on the bike... happy to hear comments or recommendations folks... thanks

Frame: BMX Chrome
Lens: Jade/Violet/+Red

Oakley's latest release commemorating the Tour de France provides collectors with a beautiful frame (BMX Chrome) which takes Polished Aluminum to the next level! The release also features three interchangable lenses, complete with matching (color) earsocks: Jade Iridium, Violet Iridium, and +Red Iridium. Worthy of mention is the fact that BMX Chrome brings out the best in ANY lens, especially lenses with "colorful" hues. Another positive aspect lies in the fact that Oakley includes Violet Iridium, which is rarely seen in its recent releases. SICK, SICK, and SICK are the three words that come to mind to describe these three colorways, and because I couldn't decide which was best I had to get three pairs! Bravo, Oakley!

Frame: Matte White
Lens: Jade Iridium

A year after the introduction of Jade Iridium in the Anti-Freeze/Jade Iridium Radar, Oakley once again releases Jade Iridium Radars, but this time paired with a Matte White Radar frame. Matte White/Jade is a classic color combo that you can't peel your eyes off of - or peel off your head. I've said it in a previous review and I'll reiterate: the unobtainium nosepiece on the Radar feels like a tiny pillow on the bridge of your nose and the three-point fit is snug and superb, making these glasses SUPER-comfortable! Grab a pair while you can!

Frame: jet black

These are great sunglasses. I bought them off of a friend for $85, and they have turned out to be a great investment. I love the hydrophobic property of the lens, and while they are a bit big on my face, I love them.

Frame: POlished White
Lens: + Red

Great fit and light weight. Being Asian and having higher cheekbones the cut of this lens is a bit more comfortable. Having slighly larget/longer nose bombs would help bring the glasses away from the cheekbones on an Asian face.

These grip well and are a bit more updated in terms of style than the M frame.

Great Hydro/Oleo phobic lens doesn't require cleaning too often.

Frame: Metallic Red, Custom Orange Icon
Lens: Clear

'Upgraded' (aka made an excuse to buy) for work. Originally had Half Jacket XLJ but I needed bigger eye coverage for blood/body fluid splatter at work. Very comfortable, refuse to come off my face unless I pull them off. Useful for protection from solid objects as well (of course). I only wish I could get 'leaded' lenses for work, since I also deal with x-ray, but these will do just fine for now. I highly recommend these for utilitary means, I can't speak for them for sport or casual use.

Frame: Anti-Freeze
Lens: Jade Iridium

What hasn't already been said about the Radar since its introduction into the market? This latest edition pairs a truly unique frame color with a newly-developed lens: Jade Iridium. Similar to its G26 predecessor, Jade Iridium boasts a beautiful green hue; however, this lens works exceptionally well in bright or even medium-light conditions. Oakley has once again left their mark on the world of eyewear.

Frame: Polished White
Lens: Red Iridium Polarized (09-721)

Probably the gem amongst all my Radars. Awesome color-combo, but that aside, the Polarized Red Ir lenses facilitate a most comfortable bluish hue appearance to the eye that allows you to view everything in a different but more beautiful tint. Contributes an interesting variety to life as a key rotation within my regular Radar wardrobe.

Frame: infrared
Lens: vr50 photochromatic

These are my fourth Radar glasses I own. The frame has a really "loud" colour and the photochromatic lenses react very fast to changing light conditions. They are ideal for my cycling training and triathlon races. I think I will wear them often.
BigHonu -
Frame: Crystal Black
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized, Grey Polarized, VR28

Comfortable, lightweight, and stays in place when you are active. The reduced vertical rake from the M-frame along with the larger nose piece makes these a great fit for me. Comfortable enough that you won't notice them during a round of golf, and secure enough to take trail running. Very easy to change the lenses out.

Frame: Atomic
Lens: Fire Iiridium

I was never really an M frame style fan until I bought my first pair of Radars last year. Now I get it. I love these frames - the coverage and vision are second to none. The fit for my huge head is awesome as well. These new Atomic frames just scream for attention. They actually look fast sitting still.
TERRORISM -
Frame: True Blue
Lens: VR28 Black

Although not the most exciting color combo available, the "true blue" frame provides the Radar lineup with extra diversity (in addition to the orange, red, and neon yellow hues already present, among others), and the VR28 Black lens needs little introduction since it's one of the most versatile lenses ever. Pairing the two creates a winning combo, and the icons finished in "chrome" complete the aesthetics. Functionally, the Radars provide great coverage, fit, and also offer the option of interchangeable lenses.

Frame: Polished White
Lens: Polarized Positive Red

These Radars are now my glasses of choice when out on the road bike. The Positive red lens is just about the best ive ever worn & ive been wearing ONLY Oakleys since 1985 when I brought two pairs of Eyeshades. The tint through the lens is a light blue similar to the Ruby lens.

The frame is a pure white so with the lens combo they look stunning.

I see Oakley are using Lance Armstrong to market this pair and the the pair he is wearing have black ear sock. I think these look a little better so I might change from the red socks.Other than that these are by far the best yet

Frame: Jet Black, Chrystal Black, Polished Aluminium,Metallic Blue
Lens: Grey, Black Iridium, Clear, Persimmon, VR 28, VR 28 rx, Ice Iridium, G40 - all Path.

Sturdy sportsglasses. More flexible than M Frame and up for real tough activities, be it work or exercise. Easy to change lenses.
If you demand prescription eyewear and want a few colours to change between. pick your favorite in the rx version and the rest in the standard versions. Use contact lenses with the latter and save some money.

Frame: White Chrome
Lens: G20 Blk Irid.

The Radars are a sweet frame no doubt but I had to send the White Chrome frames in for an exchange TWICE because the layer of the anodised FMJ coating started to peel off the nose bridge area after changing lenses.Oakley admitted that the finish is not a durable one and they recommended me to choose the Jet Black instead. No problems with these ones but I think there must be a lot of disatisfied customers of the Radar who bought the White Chrome (along with the Polished Aluminum and Plasma, etc) and often change lenses. It's a shame cause IMO the White Chrome is one of the best colors in the Radar range.

My First M-Frames. And I am loving every minute of it. I was skeptical about getting these frames due to the size and look. But once you try it, you like it. I definately trying M-frames on before you purchase them. These come with a great soft case. Great for running, biking, casual use whatever. The colour combination works also. Nice finish, solid and light. I am looking forward to adding more M-frames to my growing collection.

Frame: Retina Burn
Lens: Fire Iridium (Path)

My Story: It took me a year, but I finally found a reason to purchase Radar. I tried them on in a SGH when they first came out, but the lackluster variety and the fact they didn't have the Path lens turned me off. Even with trips to various O-stores, I didn't really care to look at Radar. When I read that Retina Burn came out, I was somewhat reserved like I usually am with all new Oakley styles and colors. But new styles and colors sometimes grow on you, without you owning them. Then it suddenly strikes you that you gotta get them. For me, this color combo is partially responsible for my love and loyalty to the Brand. I was probably 10 or 12 years old...whenever Razor Blades were readily available and popular, and this was one of the color combos. I remember seeing people with them on and thinking how awesome and cool the glasses looked, and also how I couldn't afford them when I found out they were $120-$130. I realized this was the opportunity to own the color I've always wanted in a highly functional frame.

Frame: Simply stated, Radar is the best fitting sport/safety/military glass available on the market. Period. They feel like they are clamped to my head, more so than M-Frame. As many of you already know, the O-Matter itself is comprised of revised ingredients which provide more flexibility than ever while increasing resilience and structural rigidity. For those concerned with the nosepiece, its just as strong as the rest of the frame, and breakage should never be an issue unless your glass already has an internal crack or bubble from the factory. Using the nosepiece to lock the lens into place alongside the standard M-Frame securing solution is just brilliant. The intake ports on the ear stems appear to be a non-issue as well in terms of weakening the frame as the amount of material around the ports is more than enough. The top brim of the frame is thick and flat like the Flak Jacket, and aids in blocking the sun during the peak hours of the day.

Lens: For me, the Path lens is the only of the three that looked good and while providing plenty of coverage. Pitch and Range are just silly to me. Retina Burn is currently the only Radar that offers Fire Iridium as a standard lens. I already knew that the hydrophobic coating worked as claimed. Fire is arguably the worst lens to clean, and the hydrophobic makes it cleanup just like Black Iridium. Not much else to say about the lens. Path is the best looking, and we all know about the unbeatable clarity and safety of Oakley HDO lenses.

Style: It looks like Radar was primarily styled for cyclists, as the frame appears to 'flow' very well with high end bike helmets. The frame colored nosepiece assembly is definitely a nice touch. Radars are not something your going to wear everyday, or use as your go-to pair. However, the neon green frame with orange lens is so Oakley, and more importantly is so me when I don't care when people stare. In an age where its extremely tough to make things look futuristic, Oakley has successfully pulled it off with the Radar. It took a year of getting used to, but I like them. The fact that a got a limited production of a radical colorway (which I think is serialized #136 ?) makes it even sweeter.

Frame: Retina Burn
Lens: Fire

These are truly deserving of their status as the next-gen M-Frame. The Radar has an amazing fit; the level of comfort exceeds that of the M-Frame. The new hydro lenses are great, and the Path shape looks better than any previous M-Frame shape. For cycling, they can't be beaten. They're the best sunglasses I've ever used for that purpose, hands down.

I subtracted a star because for me, they're not as good for running. For some reason, on my head, they bounce while running. That's a deal-breaker. I'll stick with my Half Jackets for running, but these babies will take the cake for cycling.

Frame: Retina Burn
Lens: Fire Iridium
After seeing that Oakley had released the colour worn by David Millar in this years TdF I had to have these glasses, however,
I personally feel that Oakley have taken a step back from the M-frames in designing these glasses.
Redesigning the M-frame must have been difficult for Oakley. As anyone who has used the M-frame will know, Oakley had hit upon perfection in the world of sports sunglasses. Yes it looked geeky, but it performed so well.
However, the new Radar frame does not in my opinion work as well as the good m-frame. Whilst it undoubtedly looks the bees knees in my chosen colour way (so 80s!) it just doesn't provide the coverage of the M-frame. Furthermore the lens are more difficult to change.

Overall however, they are still miles ahead of most other sunglasses, which all seem to feel or look cheep in comparison.

Someone has to thank the design team at Oakley for bringing back retro colors like these. Similar to some of the colors used in the Razorblades, the Retina Burn paired with Fire Iridium commands attention. Even though this color scheme may not match many outfits, it combines current design with characteristics of Oakley's heritage and innovation. Adding to the appeal of this piece is its exclusivity of only 500 pairs made.

Frame: Jet Black
Lens: Black Polarized Iridium

Okay, first up and foremost, I am a City Council worker in one of the harshed climate cities in Australia known as Kalgoorlie. Not only is it one of the most renouned gold capitals in the world, it is the home of blistering heat and red dust. Both of which caused me to think about purchasing a pair of sunglasses for the job. (Thank goodness for tax write offs, because these weren't cheap!)

But might I add... Worth every penny. Immediately, I loved the comfort of the frame and the coverage of the lenses. (I purchased the Radar Path pair) Not too tight, even for my big head and enough lense coverage to deal with all angles of sunglare.

Almost weightless on my face, they were comfortable to wear all day. The polarized lenses helped me in my day to day routines and protected my eyes so much so that I wasn't as mentally tired at the end of a hard days work.

Although not entirely dust repelling, it served it's purpose well. The coating on the polarized lenses definitely kept me from wiping my glasses down myself. Water easily tends to bead off more than my other pairs of Oakley's and no matter how hard I sweat, it never once fogged up on me. Which is amazing considering the Radar's weren't even vented.

Overall, a worthy purchase no matter how much you buy them for. They will be worth every penny and provided you take care of them, will serve it's purpose well in easing your eyes after a hard day's yakka.

I was VERY impressed first, outstanding fit and clean lens hours after long runs. That’s something my M frame could offer due to my face structure and lack of good oil /water resistance on lens.

However, I’ve started noticing that these are very “squeaky” sunglass. Not sure why, but I keep this squeaky noise coming from the temple. It’s really annoying since I run almost everyday with my new RADAR on, and last thing I want is damn noise coming close to my head. Because of that problem I give 3.

Plus points:Amazingly lightweight, snug comfy fit, great protection and coverage, oh so cool, polarized lenses are superbly clear to look through, water oil fingerprints come off easily and a case thrown in. What more can one ask for? I'm sold!!!

Note: Only medium and above faces need apply. That is, if you intend to wear them. With all the collectors here, who knows? Wonder if they'll ever come up with an Asian fit. Most Asians I know will probably find the nose pieces a little too large. The extra nose piece provided seems to be of the same size.

Minus points: Lenses are rather big, even for the Path which is supposedly the smallest lens of the lot. Wonder how many people can actually the Range and Pitch.
