A change well done. I have worn Ms before and never actually thought I would again. They had become old hat in a sea of so many radical items. Even with later incarntations and beefed up frames they always came across as the same old M-Frame. Well this here is a new M-Frame. It's impactful and aggressive. A lower profile in many apsects but styled to show it's strength. The stems have been slimmed and the hammer, eliminated. Smooth fitting under a helmet/straps or if you just don't need the sweeping stems protruding from your temple. A slightly tighter grip helps it to stay in place in the roughest conditions with larger earsocks for a better hold when the situation heats up. A welcome change for all M fans and those who have grown tired of the past offereings.

After years of seeing Oakley put out very restrained sunglass designs, it is nice to see something like the SI M Frame 2.0. Unfortunately it's not available to the general public.
Based to some degree on the Thump 1, The SI M Frame 2.0 has the same ridges on the top of the frame and a smaller, obviously modified version of the earstems. Many people would say that it's an ugly frame, and they may be right. It's definitely an either hate it or love it thing with no in-between, just like with the Thump 1. However, I don't think it's all that bad and the fact that it's Oakley's most unique frame in years make up for it. While worn, the distinguishing alien features of the sunglass are not as pronounced. As well, the frame does come with a clip that further reinforces the lenses and keeps it from slipping off, presumably during battle. Whatever the case may be, the clip looks odd and isn't very attractive when worn, though it does look fine on the frame itself when on display.
As far as I'm aware, you can use regular M Frame lenses on the SI M Frame 2.0. That's an added bonus, since this model only comes stock with Grey, VR28 or Clearn lenses. Naturally, you cannot use the aforementioned clip with other lenses, but it's just as well since, as I've said, it's not an attractive thing.
As noted below in other reviews, the new design allows for better fit with helmets. But this also leads to the fit of the frame to be tight as hell. It's like wearing a vise sometimes and can be uncomfortable after a while.
Overall, I give the SI M Frame 2.0 a 4 out of 5, taking one point off for not being as comfortable as it could be due to the tight fit. I am pleased with the odd design and glad it's not as restrained as some of the current models. Hopefully this sort of design will become a trend for years to come (and released on consumer models as well).

Ever since I saw Armstrong sporting a white set of these I had to get a pair. I settled for the black color (until that time I muster the courage to paint it white). Being a long time M Frame fan, these things are sweet! The clear lenses got tossed and a new set of +red hybrids went in. And I was fortunate enough to get a pair with the metal icons. These fit better in every way than the previous design, and Oakley was smart enough to fix the problem of the tips of the earstems scratching the inside of the lenses. Only con is that the earstems are not break away.
Frame:
Lens: high perf. M-frame looks to be a cross between the Thump top piece with its ridges and a traditonal M-frame earstems. The top band is more narrow as not to impead vision when looking up. Saw Lance Armstrong at this years Tour de France with a pair on during warm ups.

Not in the military but finally Oakley glasses I was actually willing to pay the premium for. The lense is outstanding with zero distortion from any angle.
I need safety glasses in a car production plant all the time due to weld flash, very happy camper indeed :-)

Just got these and plan on using them as a firefighter. Very comfortable but not the most fashionable for people with smaller faces. Still, my eyes feel very protected. The extra safety clip is a bit hard to maneuver but otherwise everything is good. Very sharp and clear vision...nothing obstructing or distorting.

Awesome eyepro! I used Oakley M-Frames 1.0 and Half Jackets for a while in Iraq back during 2007 until I decided to switch to the Mframe 2.0, and i'm glad I did. There's no doubt about it, the origional MFrames and any of the Jacket styles are much more aesthetically pleasing the the SI 2.0's, but in terms of ruggedness, durability, and operability for tactical operations the 2.0 is definately leading the game for Oakley. The low profile arms fit well underneat helmets and headsets alike, and hug your temples, shouldn't even really need the retention strap for this one, boys. Durability is astonishing, i've stepped on the frames and have not been able to break them. I actually once had a pair ran over by a 5 ton up armoured HMMWV. The Frame was shattered, but the lense DID NOT break, and was actually not nearly as bent as you would think from being run over by a multi ton vehicle. Moral of the story is, i feel quite confident that the lenses can stand up to any sort of fragmentation that could be thrown at them. The Lense retention clip ENSURES that the lense will not pop out. The limitation of lense tints and styles is a bit of a negative for the 2.0, but basically irrelevent for a soldier deployed, since the Authorized Protective Eyewear List specifically states that clear or gray lense are the only authorized tints to be worn with protective eyewear(and believe me the unit i'm in now are NAZIS when it come to having everything perfectly AUTHORIZED), and who do you need to impress when you are on a patrol through Iraq or Afghanistan lol. However, that being said, for everyday civilian wear, i would rather go with my origional M-Frames or my Flak Jackets, because they simply look sexier. But, when it's time to get down to bussiness, it's time to pull the mighty 2.0's out of the case and get down and get dirty.

I bought these specifically for shooting and have had them for a little over a year now. With the clear and grey lenses, it reasonably covers most conditions for indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. Had they included the VR28 for overcast days instead of the Laser lens, it would have been perfect. But these aren't meant to be available to the public, so a military specific lens is understandable.
The lack of a metal icon is disappointing to a consumer. But again, they're not supposed to be for your average Joe. They're meant for our GI Joes.
For their purpose, they work very well. The slim profile frame fits well under ear muffs and I'd assume they would be equally at home underneath a headset. They're fit is more snug than the normal M Frame or Radar so if you have a wide head, they'll get uncomfortable after wearing them for a while. I've had spent brass from both my own guns as well as shooters in the next lane pelt me and these do their job perfectly. Hopefully, I never have to test how they'd hold up to a bullet ricochet (or worse).
The extra clip on the lens makes swapping a bit more challenging but you get used to it. And the extra security they provide compared to the standard M Frame is worth the extra hassle.

These are the absolute pinnacle of function in a sunglass. I bought these for the sole purpose of being able to wear them in uniform, but I find myself wearing them just out and around. As with all M-Frames, they are light, no vision is blocked, and they are comfortable. It doesn't get any better!

Had the options of Pro m frame and the original m frame, but chose this over them for the rugged and unconventional look.
despite typical reviews of the absence of aesthetic appeal, i beg to differ because the frame, if viewed from the front, differs from the original M frame only with the jagged edging, which personally i find very interesting and appealing. Also, the wrap around straight arms make this 2.0 M frame a somewhat amalgamation between the m frame and the radar, and also gives a much tighter and confortable grip, and i can safely run/climb/bike without fear of it dislodging. Also, the absence of a discernable icon is hardly different from a normal m frame, where the icon is slanted to the top, and cannot be easily seen from an onlooker.
all in all, 5 skulls! for minimal compromise in aesthetics *it looks better from my POV* and much better function as it wraps more snugly and gives me more confidence to perform without any worries

Have worked on three different people with shrapnal injuries to the face. Two had on the balistic M frames one had went to a local shop and bought a Foakley pair. The two with the real deal had zero eye injuries. As a matter of fact, one guy had on the retention strap and came in still wearing them. The other guy, yeah he will be getting a good compensation check even though he is blind do to his own idiocy.

I have used these glasses for eight months now in Afghanistan. I have been very impressed with them. Here are my pros and cons:
Pros: The fit is excellent as you would expect from a pair of Oakleys. I run in them and do all sorts of operations in them and never have to worry about them sliding down my nose. They are very light weight and thus very comfortable over extended periods of time. The wrap around design offers a good amount of protection from sun and shrapnel (although fortunately I have not had to test out the shrapnel stopping abilities yet.) The scratch resistant coating on the lense is also very good as mine have not had much in the way of scratches yet. I have also had no problems with fogging. I've used a pair of Wiley X's before because they offer more protection in sand storms (because of the goggle design), but in cold weather they fog up very badly. The design is a little off putting at first, but it has definite advantages. Since there are no hammers on the side, it fits better with a helmet. Also, the lack of the metal Os I believe is done to meet Army regulations which say glasses cannot have symbols on them.
Cons: Unobtainium is a blessing and a curse when it comes to these glasses. They help them stick to your head, but they also stick to the headsets used inside vehicles. Thus if you are wearing a headset and turn your head a lot, the headset has a tendency to move the glasses around. It would also be nice if these lenses used Oakley's new hydrophobic technology. The lense is very close to my face and thus gets oily very quickly, and of course Afghanistan is a very dusty environment, so they also get dusty very quickly. It would also be nice if they had Transition lenses. Yes you can swap between grey and clear, but if you are driving a vehicle and then enter a building, you don't have time to swap lenses. Of course, these two additions would make them cost more too, so it's a tradeoff.

Lens: Clear Hybrid and Strike
When I first saw these I thought they were fugly. After a while they grew on me a lot. It helped to see a pair without the lens clip installed and with a standard lens (no whole). I wouldn't exactly call them pretty, but that's not why I bought them. They do have a tough kinda industrial thing going on though, perfect for work. They look way better in hybrid too IMO.
The pair I have are an early example which is both good and bad. The cool part is they have the metal icon in gunmetal which looks way better than the molded in icon. The bad part is they don't have the holes in the earstems so I can't use the strap that came with them if I want to. The fit is great, very comfortable for a long day of work. They fit way better with a hat than the standard M-frame.
The array case they come with is a bit different than the standard one and more functional. It has deep cutouts in the foam so the arms sit right in there when they're folded instead of laying on top. There are also 2 little vents to breathe out moisture and a provision to attach the case directly to a utility belt as well as the swivel clip.
All in All, I love these things! I use them at work daily and they both look and work better than any standard saftey glasses. I went back to my 1.0 SI M-Frames for a bit and it became even more apparent how much better they are from a function standpoint. 5 skulls :^)

I just want to add that looking at photos of the original M frames, these new 2.0 look way more rugged and durable looking. The older M frames looked too "luxurious" with the metal icons. These 2.0 versions look like they truly were meant for war and battles =]

Got them for CHEAP!! Came with the ballistic nylon case, microfiber cleaning/storage bag, clear and grey lens, frame itself, and an optional head/neck strap u can put on and take off.
Although these are military spec, I am only using them for housework projects which require drilling, hammering, etc. The fit is great. The frames may not look very attractive or pleasing, but as Oak said, "While worn, the distinguishing alien features of the sunglass are not as pronounced." This means when you wear them, you do not really notice the weird ridge designs on them. From a distance, they look like normal frames. Because of the matte color, it keeps a low profile and hence I think also due to no more metal icons on the sides.
In a way, those weird ridge designs on the frame make it even more Oakley. Sometimes Oakley just designs and adds things to their products which may have no purpose at all, like in the case of those weird ridges, or maybe they do.....

Lens: Grey New Hybrid
After receiving these glasses straight from Oakley, it was a bit of a disappointment to see that they've scrapped the full metal icons (they're now a solid, one-piece mold where the icon adorns the earstem). Oakley also added small "holes" to the ends of the earstems on these glasses, probably to secure them with a cord. Despite the minimal change on the frames (lack of a true metal icon), the collectability suffers greatly IMO, as the frames appear to have been "cheapened" (almost resembling Foakleys).
Frame: Black
Lens: New Hybrid Clear
The frame design is reminiscent of the Thump, having ridges on the brow along with redesigned earstems, yet the secure fit of the M Frame lineup remains the same. As always, the frame includes unobtainium earsocks for added comfort and true metal icons. The New Hybrid lens also provides excellent coverage, with outstanding perephrial protection. Ultimately, the intrinsic appeal of these shades lies in their "unusual" M Frame design coupled with the fact that you simply don't see them every day.

Lens: Clear/Black
They are OK, If I did like M-Frames I would like these, but M-Frames have never been my style. They are very lightweight and cover well, so if you ever were in an IED attack your eyes would be safe, but I am going to throw in the Laser lenses and put them in the case
Frame: Matte Black
Lens: VR28 Hybrid
Awesome new M Frame designed specifically to meet the needs of all military and government personnel.
This glass was based on the original Thump design, so it might not be the most aesthetically pleasing design, but it certainly is solid, stong, well made, and will be more than up to the task whatever anybody throws at it.
There is the obligatory safety clip in the middle of the frame to keep the lens tight and where it should be, along with the new style nosepiece, that also has clips to hold it in place.
Very lightweight and comfortable to wear, this is a great alternative/upgrade from the original M Frame design.

Not the best looking sunglasses(at least with the strike lens), But i bought them for function over form anyways, In which case they're very good. I use them for jetskiing, snow skiing, and other outdoor activities. For these aplications they're perfect... Very Robust Sunglasses. Also comfortable and a great field of view.

The black color of these frames looks great. It has that stealth appearance. The frames are very light weight and eye coverage is excellent. It might look difficult to swap lenses but its actually very simple just as the regular M Frames. The detail on the clip and the earstems really adds to this pair.
Frame: Grey
Lens: VR28
Really nice pair of M Frames and its unique because of the modifications for SI. The frame is very durable but the light weight of the M Frame is not compromised. The design on the earstems looks great but that look of floating that the M Frame has is lost.

I never liked the M Frames but the 2.0 has an appeal to me that just told me I had to get it. I think the more aggressive style is what attracted me. It fits really well and eye coverage is great. You do look like you're in the military when you wear it, but I will only wear it when I'm out riding my bike or playing outdoor sports.

Fairly Ugly. This is a M-Frame for military applications. The Top clip can be popped off allowing normal m-frame lenses. There are two extra noise piece indents in the lens that fit a gap in the nose piece making the nose piece extra secure.

Finally - Oakley developed the SI M Frame 2.0 for the needs of SOCOM and its operators. Lance wore prototypes, as they are not available to the general public. Not meant to be pretty (and they aren't) but completely functional when worn with various types of head/helmet gear, Low-profile frame and hinge design along with more substantial construction throughout will drastically reduce fit and breakage issues of the old M Frame. Lenses are interchangeable, provided they are SI and drilled for the clip.

I finally tried them on, and wow! Design itself isn't that cool, in fact VERY ugly. But when I tried on with my helmet &headset, this pair just fit right PERFECT. It was super easy to take em off, too.
I tried on the mil version, so it had this plastic piece on the frame. I swapped the lens around with my civie model and mil model, they all work, except I have to drill a hole on the lens to use the plastic piece. it causes scratch on lens whenever I tried to swap. I already killed two lens thank you very much! If you ain't gonna be kickin doors down, keep the plastic piece off.

The design of this frame was intended to better integrate with the helmets the riders wear. The old M-Frame earstems bow outwards, making them harder to take on and off one-handed while wearing a helmet. The straight arms on this version eliminate that problem.
