This keeps happening to both of my coats (Sideswipe jacket and my freight down vest). It's not fun to have to unzip all the way and fix this when it's freezing outside. Anyone else have this?
I have a feeling 95% of the zippers in the world are made by a chinese company called YKK, but I've never had zippers as bad as these, except that one old sleeping bag I had. Man that thing was a nightmare.
I've exactly the same problem but purchased my Jacket at a Vault in LA for a very reduced price. Difficult to bring it back... especially when you're living in Switzerland;-)
Seriously: I check my jacket everytime I zip it to avoid any problem. That's the best I can do (I don't want to change the complete zipper)
I too had never had a problem with an Oakley zipper. I have 6 or 7 jackets going back over a dozen years and they all work great.
My oldest one I bought in college, maybe 1997 or so and other than a little bit of pilling on the collar fleece it looks good as new. And that thing has been through the wringer.
In my experience the Oakley garb has been made extremely well.
"If your jacket has a water resistant zipper it will most likely have a coil configuration also. The teeth of the zipper will be toward the inside of the jacket and the outside of the zipper will have a shiny coating on it. It will most likely have the stamp 5N on the zipper. These water resistant zippers are more expensive and found on high end technical jackets."
I will just have to be careful like the other poster said and make sure it's on right when I put it on the first time.
I've got five coats in the closet, lots of pants, and a couple of packs and no zipper issues. That being stated my kid's two zippers on his college backpack got shredded in a year. Of course when you're standing on it to get in your hard bound books, computer, electronics, and other goodies, I'd say that's not a defective zipper!
