Oak posted this 4 years ago, but it wasn't in this thread, so here it is again.

Apex Studios did a lot of the 2005 era posters and POP.

This 2003 report/roadmap on military suppliers doesn't say anything we didn't know about Oakley, but it is good reading material nevertheless:

Part of the Legion of Oakley series a few years back was done by Alvin Lee:

Now it seems ahead of its time, with the huge boom of undead in pop culture in the past 4-5 years.

I loved that campaign. They used some well-known comic book artists and actually put out a catalog in the form of a comic book. That kinda intersection of hobbies really tickles my beans.

For more obscure Oakley knowledge, the following thread is a fountain of it:

http://www.o-review.com/portal_detail.asp?ID=5751 - Oak

For some strange reason this link does not work.
Anyway I can just search for it?

I think it was this one:

I moved programmin languages about a year and a half ago, so most of the link won't work. However the Thread ID will still be valid, so all the portal_detail.asp just needs to change to forum_detail.php

"When we do some of the super limited quickstrikes, they go through a different manufacturing process which is what allows us to do the smaller qtys. If they had to run through the whole system, they would never get made at all. It's actually why we haven't been doing it as much. For STPL, there were a couple of different shipments"

"When you have production runs in the thousands and then come along with a sku that has less than 250, you have to find a different way to do things."

More from Takumi, on the difference between the 2010 Eyeshade re-release and the 2014 Heritage

the ones we did in 2010 which were actually made from the original tool. The 2014 were made from a new tool. The original ones the nosepiece is glued on

The unofficial name of the new White Kitchen Sink Pack is 'The Stormtrooper' .... or at least the web guys were having some fun with their image file naming. There's often a lot of useful meta data in those.

A while back I got the Ballistic Crosshair and noticed that the box and stems said SI BALLISTIC CROSSHAIR VØ. On one of the Facebook groups, someone posted it as Crosshair V8. I hadn't really looked into it, but a google search for 'Crosshair V8' only returned ebay sellers and Fuse lens knockoffs, while 'Crosshair VØ' returned the SI page even without mentioning anything about glasses of Oakley (leading me to believe there was some meta data hidden somewhere for that search term).

I figured it must be some sort of tech term like HALO, so I did stumble upon this:

A device of the Swiss artillery to measure the muzzle velocity (VØ). The sensors were mounted on the barrel of the gun. It was used in the forts and in the field. The muzzle velocity of a caliber 10.5 cm grenade was 700 - 800 m/s. The equipment is outdated and no longer used. Newer devices comprise of a Doppler radar. So a pair related to Ballistics and impact protection, it seems that would be a good match.

From an annual report:

"In 2016, proprietary brands accounted for approximately 68% of total sales of frames. Ray-Ban and Oakley eyewear, the two largest brands in Luxottica’s portfolio, accounted for approximately 27% and 11%, respectively, of the Group’s 2016 net sales.'

I had no idea RB was that much bigger of a global brand than Oakley.

The gold aviator is what the world loves, sadly. It's the classic fashion accessory. I wonder if that was why lux switched rb to Ferrari, or how ever that works.

Yeah, the aviator at $200+ a pop is a good cash cow. Hard to beat that without trying.

I know the Aviator and Wayfarer are big sellers and sunglass icons but I still wouldn't have thought the margin of difference between RB and the O to be that large.
