I'm in the market for a computer bags, and am honing in on a couple. So I went to my local O-store to see them in all their ballistic nylon glory.

Freakin Sweet.

But, I have 2 questions for anyone else using these.

1. The Computer Bag 2.0 is sweet looking, and I could get it on principle alone. But what is with the 50-odd dividers/pockets? Nice for some, not for me. My O-store guy tells me there is a new CB 2.0 coming in a week that is the same design (and not a 3.0) but with less pockets. Can anyone confirm that?

I really like the design of the AP Computer bag, but wish it was a little dressier (and I love the CB2.0 design so much more!)

2. The Vertical Computer Bag 3.0 just hit oakley.com, and is supposed to also be in my store in about a week. Anyone have any advance review on this bag?

So recently I was given a laptop at work, and told to go to travelling to help open a plant. I needed a bag to shlep the laptop, accessories, and all the crap I've come accustomed to shlepping to/from work on a daily basis. This is a review of that experience.

I should mention that I considered the Vertical Bag 3.0, and the AP Computer Bag. The AP seemed nice, and was wider & roomier with less dividers. Good if you have a few, big things. The Vertical Bag was a nice form factor, but not a lot of room for other stuff. The Computer Bag 2.0 was a little taller than the AP & less wide, and had about a hundred compartments. Good if you have many small things.

My loadout typically consists of a laptop, a 1" binder, power cord, LAN cable, 1-2 pairs of Oakleys, Palm, and many other assorted small stuff (usb drive, gum, pens, etc). The laptop and binder fit well by themselves in one compartment, leaving the rest free to spread out. The bag thankfully expanded as I put more it it, as the display didn't seem thick enough.

Turn-ons: Styling is hard to beat in a corporate world. And the whole thing being black, save for the little red slit in the front...well, that's just plain sexy. I like the nadle a lot too: overmolded soft rubber. The shoulder strap is pretty good. As for the inside, there are lots of pockets. 13 zippered compartments, a whole lot more velcro pockets, and more nooks & crannies than you can shake a stick at. It'll take some time to remember where everything is, but once everything has a home, it will all work harmoniously. So organization is a boon. The inside has a printed "O" icon motif, which is useful to see if anything is in the mesh pockets (if you see the "O", nothing's in it.) There's even a zippered compartment so you can slide it over your rolling luggage handle. 2 outboard bungees hold drinks. There's even a clip to hold keys. It fits comfortably under an airplane seat. I loved all these things.

Turn-offs: Little things. I think the biggest is that the bottom isn't finished. There's no stable base, so if there's a lot in it, the sides expand past the base making it top heavy, and it tips. That's annoying. Secondly, there are SO MANY pockets. I think I'd prefer less pockets & more room. Why not make it true AP and make the pockets/dividers removable? I'd pay money for that. Also, I thought it would be a nice touch that there should be a dedicated place for at least ONE pair of sunglasses. A nice protected sleeve or something? I mean, there's a clip for keys! That's about it really.

All in all, a sharp-looking bag that works hard. One small complaint about not standing, but I still like it, and don't think I would have wanted the other ones.

Very thorough review Viscouse! This will certainly help me out when I finally get a laptop. Hopefully you post this in the reviews section for all to access it quickly and easily. I think your opinions are great and should help other potential buyers immensely.

Thanks.

I would post it, but there's no section for Computer Bag 2.0.

Will find pictures and the sku so Dann can add it to the database and so your review can be included.

Great work, thanks for taking the time for writing it.

Thanks a lot for this review! Will be starting a new job soon and they want me to carry a laptop around. I was already looking at the Computer bag 2.0, but was missing some extra info. Because I did not find it in shops over here yet, I will have to order online. So this extra info is very useful, just what I needed.

Thanks!

(If anyone knows where I can look at it in real life over here ...)

This baby arrived last weak and I'm very thrilled with it.

IRL there are indeed many pockets, but if not used, they're not in my way because they're flat. Although the velcro feels somewhat strong for the thin fabric. Downside is that I already 'lost' my pen because I didn't remember in which pocket it was...

It's mentioned before, but where do I leave my glasses?!?! C'mon this is an Oakley bag...
The middle section could use a zipper that opens all the way down for easier access. Now you have to stare down this dark hole to find something (that will probably be black:o).

To end with some positive notes because it seems I'm negative about it now, which is absolutely not the case;
The cool factor off course. It's classy enough to use for business purposes but still has this touch of style and 'difference' to stand out. Love it!
Enough space for my daily needs and still not bulky and big like some other computer bags. It somehow seems to grow with everything you feed it.
It's very sturdy and gives a definite feeling of toughness, without beeing big-boned.

In short; I love it! Once I have used it for some time I'll give an update if needed.

I've been using the Sandbag 2.0 for a couple of months. I dropped the following in the Sandbag 1.0 area. Only complaint I have with the bag is the straps. Other than that, it was the perfect sized for what I needed it for. I bought two and just sold one. I'm using the Sandbag 1.0 now.

"Greetings, my first review. I don't see a listing for a Sandbag 2.0 so I figure I'll put it here. I originally purchased the Sandbag 2.0 because of the flexibility in carrying. The single strap unzips and can be repositioned to become shoulder straps. Further, you can adjust the straps' anchor points to configure it as a left shoulder bag , right shoulder bag, or backpack.

There are a ton of pockets and I fit my 15" Gateway Tablet PC with room to spare. I crammed this bag with the laptop, external harddrive, web cam, cables, headphones, external mouse, files, folders, and Ipod and there was still room.

Utility and style wise I would rate 5 out of 5.

My two complaints would be the lower strap mounting system. Each strap has a clip that slides on to a channel on the bag. These tend to slip off the channel. My laptop has come crashing down more than once. However, due to the excellent padding, It has not been damaged. #2. Even though the brochure shows that the bag comes with a traditional shoulder strap and advertising for the bag trumpest "carry this four way", a traditional should strap is NOT included and you cannot buy one from Oakley. I've had these bags (one black, one tiger camo) since the end of Jan and I've been fighting it out with Oakley on this ever since.

All in all a great bag. It retails around $110.00. Overall, I would give it 4/5."

Yep, did a copy paste. Only there's no Computer Bag 2.0 in the review so I put it in the regular CB with a note.

Hey guys - great reviews...

I've been dragging laptops around for 8 years... Both personal and for work. I started with the original laptop bag. Switched to the AP last year (thanks to SAC) as well as the AP sandbag.

Since I'm a big guy - the sandbag hasn't really worked for me but my son loves his for college.

I have found the original works great for the office - compact (compared to the AP) sturdy and cool. (Gotta be cool).

I like the AP for travel because of the extra room - fit's extra shades in cases that I am not about to pack in a suitcase, watches, and extra stuff for the trip. I'm not a fan of carry on - prefer to check my bag rather than drag it around the airport. But all the extra pockets hold all the necessary travel stuff as well as all the extra O stuff I have to peel off to get thru security...

So, like most O - it depends on how you use it.
