Any one got any info on this? Is it real when will it be released? My 40g photo ipod just took a dump and I was about to buy a new video one but id rather hold on for this one.

I think they have the idea right, but I'm not sure those are the real thing. iLounge has nothing up yet and if it was real they would. But Sept. should be when we find out what it will be.

That article was from back in December last year.

But yes from what i have been reading, there is every chance that a widescreen iPod in the same vein as the iphone should appear soon.
Now next Tuesday has some buzz about it in the Macworld, there could be the new redesigned slimmer Aluminum iMac or even the new iPod released. The new iMac has a better chance though.

So if you need a new iPod i'd say hold for justa little longer.
If i can find the article I'll post a link.

I love my new iPhone. If the new iPod has wide screen option they would undoubtably do away with the click wheel unlike the obvious photoshop jobs on that article. Even though the click wheel is one of the greatest user interface options ever conceived, it seems like beating two sticks together when you use the touch screen on the iPhone.

Any way the new iPod will be a killer! Get ready for the rest of the tech world to copy Apple for the next 5 years all over again!

One would question: Isnt the Iphone, just a tweaked Ipod with a phone interface.....so just drop the phone portion and viola...new ipod. Iphone looks kewl but until those hacker security issues are plugged, none for me.

My assumption is that the new iPod will lack all the internet/bluetooth/wireless networking features of the iPhone and basically be the good ol' iPod with a touch sensitve widescreen. Very doubtful they would add much more because when you start adding connectivity it requires keyboard funtionality/spell check web-browser etc (which is all par of the reason the damn iPhone costs 500+). Not to mention camera and all the other features that distinguish iphone from ipod.

Nope my guess is take your old iPod add a wide screen with accelerometer for cover flow and pictures. I've heard others say they will be releasing iPod that is basically an iPhone without the Phone, but I doubt it.

Not really the most expensive part of the iPhone is the screen which cost Apple about $60. Based on the parts used the iPhone cost Apple about $250 to make. But just like with Oakley they have R&D Cost to cover as well.

Would not need much more R&D to just drop the phone components and like Todd said bam, widescreen video ipod with WiFi for connecting to your home network. Then they could charge just a a little less for it than the iPhone with most of the $$ going to profit rather than cover R&D.

Yeah, but if you notice Apples pricing trend, they never increase the price of a product. iPod now goes for $350 for the 80 gig. Maybe people will fork over $400-500, but my assertion is that people will continue to fork over $250-$350 for the same damn thing they have but with a widescreen/touch screen. I'm not saying there's not a niche between iPod and iPhone for, say, a iPod Deluxe with internet connectivity etc, I'm just saying Apple will most likely stay the course price-wise on the iPod.

Ehh either way, I think the new iPod will be much better than the competition. You may be right about the wireless connectivity, I just hope they don't botch it like Microsoft did with the Zune.

Maybe they fixed the problems of the last gen (5.5), I got one 30GB one and if I put more than 25GB on it, it will work really slow =/

Tom, it sounds like you need to do a disc defrag on your ipod. Here's a quick and easy link to how it can be done: http://www.joryanick.com/fixingipodbattery2.htm

I know it says battery life help, but it also helps with hard drive speed.

or if you don't want to do it that way, you can always run a restore and sync which should purge what you have on your ipod and re-input the info in an unfragmented fashion. The main problem with this is it takes a long time. On the other hand I've never done a disk defrag on an iPod so I can't vouch for how long that will take, it couldn't be much worse than a complete restore.

Any way I hope this helps!

Doesn't look like Apple released a new iPod at their keynotes today, but they did release this!

And here they are:

left to right:
Shuffle (not so new), Nano with wide screen/video/coverflow, and the iPod Classic in both 80 and 120 gig.

Last but not least, meet iphones little brother:

iPod Touch

basically the iPhone without the phone+ wifi music store and loads of other cool features. One beef- it's thinner than iPhone, yet somehow manages to have 8 gig and 16 gig storage. Why couldn't they include that with iPhone? Grrr

Yeah, I was suprised that they only made it 16 gig. I thought they would go for a hard-drive based storage rather than using flash.

The iPhone dropped $200?!?! So glad I waited, but sad for those who didnt. Now the question really is, do I want to spend another $100 and get a phone with my ipod?

Bill, it's soooo much more than "just a phone" you get maps, camera, web access anywhere, albeit a little spotty with edge. I don't know I hated my previous phone/service so moving to the iPhone was a no brainer, and with the price drop geez... I don't even have to comment on that one.
