Thanks for the kudos guys! It's been a blast to have early access to a pair - I guess it's just the luck of having the artist being a local guy. Of course, if some of you with a C100 just can't wait the few weeks to get a Art Hijinx of your own, you just let me know. ;)

A couple other notes I forgot to mention. The frame is textured like a matte black frame, which I think is a great touch. Also, as far as I know, this release will mimic much like DF2 was supposed to: 2 pairs per available store (special OPDs, surf, skate shops and the like), 5-ish thousand pairs worldwide.

I'm still planning on passing on as many of the microfiber bags, posters (I think I snagged about 25 of those) and flyers on to members as I can. I'm just not 100% sure how to go about all that stuff - and I haven't had much of a spare moment this weekend to figure it out. Also, the posters are pretty large, so they would need to be mailed out in a tube and whatnot.

Very cool Paul. Sounds like a great experience. Would have loved to have been their myself. I like it when Oakley has more of the intimate settings for some of there openings. These little stores deserve the littles perks for their efforts.

The glasses are stunning and I can't wait to have a pair to wear and display. Your news as been music to my ears! Thank you for sharing this with our fellow O-Reviewers.

ART CHANTRY
Foothill Ranch, CA - 6/5/07
Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Art Chantry has been an artist in Seattle for over 30 years. During that time he managed to produce a body of work that, no matter how unorthodox, still rivals some of the best graphic designs in the world. Art has won numerous design and advertising awards, including a Bronze Lion at Cannes and the Poster Laureate of the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exposition. His work has been collected and exhibited by some of the most globally prestigious museums and galleries - including: The Louvre, Smithsonian, Library of Congress and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 1993, the Seattle Art Museum honored him with a one-man retrospective showcasing his work, and then again in the summer of 2003, P.S.1. Contemporary Art Center, in association with the Museum of Modern Art, honored him in the same respect. Hundreds of books and magazines have published Art’s work and in 2001, Chronicle Books published the monograph of his artwork in Some People Can’t Surf, written by Julie Lasky.

During his time working in Seattle, Art somehow managed to carve out a style that took hold of the popular underground music scene in the early 1990’s. Dubbed “grunge” by culture mavens, it actually was a look developed at an alternative newsweekly named The Rocket, where Art began as their “Art Director” in 1984 and continued to be involved off and on for over ten years. During that time, the magazine became a virtual hub for Seattle’s music and culture scene. Soon, his ideas extended beyond The Rocket to the fledgling record label Sub Pop where they are now etched in history. Art’s ideas found further nuance in his work for the garage rock record label, Estrus Records, where his style found a perfect symmetry with the their musicians.

Through his work with the staff of The Rocket and the classes he taught at the School of Visual Concepts, Art influenced an entire generation of young graphic designers in the Northwest, and eventually across the county. He has lectured extensively and traveled to present his work all over the world. Art has contributed writings to a number of books about graphic design, and his own book, Instant Litter: Concert Posters from Seattle Punk Culture, is considered a classic in its field. To this day, his signature hard edge, scrappy look can be seen everywhere from punk rock record covers to corporate annual reports.

Why Oakley Chose to Collaborate with Art Chantry

Art Chantry’s designs for the grunge scene through album cover artwork with such bands as Nirvana heavily influenced the early 90’s surf, skate and snow culture in Southern California. Oakley has deep roots set in this community and was inspired, thus making Art a natural choice as one of our collaboration sunglass artists. Art’s work is respected and his notoriety as an influential artist matches Oakley’s outlook by leading in design and innovation.

Is there going to be a tour like there was for the DF gascans? Or is it going to be a call every dealer in the area type thing.

For those that are interested in picking up any of the Art Chantry promo items I snagged over the weekend, just shoot me a PM with your address and/or questions.

Art Chantry microfiber bags: I don't expect it to run more than regular postage. I'm happy to pick up the costs to get these out to folks that want one (especially if you don't expect to get a pair of your own in the next few weeks).

Postcard / Flyer thing: Same as above, though I don't really have more than 4-5 of these, so sorry if I can't fill demand.

Posters: I have a good 25+ of these ... but they are pretty large at approx 20X25 inches. That said, it would probably require a mailing tube and greater postage. So I would say a poster would run you $8 USA or $13 International. If you want one, shoot me a PM and I will give you my Paypal address.

Thanks all! ~Paul

More infor on the kick off:

2 more AC Hijinx were "recieved locally" that night,.......AHHH WHAT A SHINDIG! I only say this cause, . . ahh nevermind lol(wink)

P.S. there was a very attractive young girl there( Oakley chick ^^), and i talked to her for a bit, then inadvertently introduced myself to her parents, as i thought they were Oakley "officials" cause the guy was wearing "ACs" it was embarrasing, and the father was eyeing me all night, . . . and he should have been cause she was cute! haha jk,.... kind of ^^.

Front of the "venue" nice place.

The band there " hot IQs" with a hot ass asian drummer chick that wailed!

The display of the AC's that night

and "AHHHHHHHHHH YEEEEAAAAAHHH!"

Has the Chantry Hijinx even been released? I called the 2 local o stores today and they both told me they don't even have a release date for the glass yet.

Only word I heard was at the release party last weekend and was told they should be coming out in 2-3 weeks. That was on 6/9, so we might expect it to come out by the end of the month or so.

Bad news and good news:

Bad: I think the LUX mojo finally caught up to me today and I had my Chantry Hijinx lost/stolen this afternoon. Not cool - I already shared my line of explitives with me, myself and I earlier. So I am a double unhappy fellow today.

Good: An o-store dude mentioned that retail on the Chantry Hijinx should only be about the same as regular Hijinx ($90ish). Even better than previous $140 estimates.

Just saw the Green Splatter Hijinx in person for the first time. The splatter is a bright white and neon green. It definatley stands out alot more than the pictures would suggest, but It has a solid polised black icon, not vented like on oakley.com. SO for now, the Brown Sugar is the only vented icon version.

Great to hear the splatter hijinx is looking a little louder than the o.com picture. I was hoping as much. Sad to hear about the vented icons. The hijinx is just screaming to be OCP'd - I'd really like to get Black Iridium and vented icons in that splatter frame.

re: my RIP chantry pair - sadly it fell victim to the perils of being mr. mom. A combined toddler, stroller, opening doors and shopping for kiddy shoes and socks led to Oakley disaster. I had it down to a small area of space and time that I lost it in - but it was long gone by then.

The Hijinx are awesome.I went over to my local Athlete's Foot(the only place that sells Oakley's in my town), to see what they had new. Sure enough, the Hijinx. The glasses lens are big, probably about the size of the Oil Drum or the Eyepatch. The logo is HUGE. You will not walk through a store without everyone and their brother knowing that your rockin' Oakley's.
