Believe it or not...just got my very first pair of Splice today and now I understood why Dann wanted to collect all of them. It would be really nice if these were made in X-Metals or O-luminum. Hey Dann! or has anyone of you Splice owners ever experimented and changed the orbital combinations since there's screws that comes off? If it works then that I would love to see that custom combo

I've got a few custom Splices. Gunmetal Top/Black Bottom and earstems. Ice Lenses.

Also, White Chrome Top, Black bottom and earstems, Fire Lenses. Both are pretty sick. Don't get a whole lotta wear though, but cool nonetheless.

I never put much stock in the Splice until I had really tried a pair on at length a few months back. The fit was great tne the style actually looked real nice wearing it. I am ready to nab a Gunmetal/Emerald pair in the near future.

I owned a pair a Montoya Splice. I love the look of the Splice and all but I just counldn't wear it, because the lens sit too close to my face so it keep foging up on me.

I also couldn't make up my mind about Splice until I tried them on for the fourth time a few months ago. They are almost too big for me, but I think I can pull them off OK. I got the Black-Gunmetal/Emerald. Maybe the other color combos just didn't do it for me until I saw the Emerald ones.

I work for Oakley Tre. I've received a few gifts over the last few years and I'm proficient with a T-5 Torx Wrench. I've switched some things around.

I think we need a Custom Oakley Thread, where everyone just posts pics of their custom stuff.

Mad Science - thanks for your earlier answer - the reason I asked is that someone once posted in this forum that modifying splices is not recommened because it's very easy to destroy them - is tht true or is it as easy as modifying a pair of Juliets?

I have pictures of my two splice that I swapped around.

1. FMJ/Black, Black Iridium Lens

2. Black Chrome/Crystal Black, Ice Iridium Lens

Swapping the earstems from the half-orbitals is a real bitch, but not as hard as swapping earstems on X-Metals. When I was swapping the Splice, I was *thisclose* to snapping them, I swear.

I have since swapped back, because I don't need my Splice anymore and will probably sell them in the future.

And I will post pics soon, but not now as I am tired and have work tomorrow morning.

---bugger it, I uploaded them. Links here:

I don't think that it's really that easy to destroy them. Of course, I take apart glasses for a living, so maybe my experience taints my answer. The earstem swap is the hardest part, but even then I've never felt like I was going to destroy them.

Alright here's a better question - is the splice made up of screwed together parts or is it made up of glue together parts?

The two tone frame of the Splice is screwed together.

The ads for the Splice said they use T5 torx screws but I undid them easily with my T6 Juliet screwdriver.

Once you undo the screws they just come apart and you can swap lenses.

Thanks for the answer - I remember some guy said the top and bottom are glued together and it's really dangerous to mess around with customising Splice but I guess that's not really the case

Yeah, I heard that too. That once you unscrew them, there's an adhesive that still keeps the parts together. Once I complete my collection, I may search for good deals on models I already have and start doing some customs. That Gunmetal Ice is pretty.

These dead links on a lot of these old threads tend to get me a bit nostalgic. They remind me of what I was up to back whenever it was first posted. It always triggers a memory or two about all the goofy crap I was getting into in the good ol days of the internetz.

Dead links remind me the accepted wisdom of "if you post it on the internet, it will last forever" just isn't true.
